Toss-Ups: Mike did well to go two for two and get the early lead here. The puzzleboard? Not doing so well. R1: This is more of a Phrase than a WAYD - I bet that means we see a Phrase or two later. Nice (but short) perfect round by Mike, as he picks up $2,500 and the Wild Card (which will inevitably be flushed later). R2: With all the T's, this is an easy puzzle. Tough luck by Lindsay to lose the featured prize (NOT A TRIP!?!), but Daydra did well to take advantage, with a top dollar hit building her bank to $8,400 and half the Smart Car. R3: Go ahead, Daydra, pick up the Free Play! Then they'd have to make a new wedge. This puzzle was awe-inspiring, but it was less "awe" and more like "Awww, writers, why'd you have to use this shtick again?" Nice total and a big lead for Daydra though going into the homestretch! R4: There's the Phrase I expected to see. Mike got it just revealed enough to avoid the bells, and Lindsay will thank him for the extra $1,950 and the fifth round coming up. R5: But with a $1,350 value, Daydra probably has this locked up. I was able to solve this with the T's and N's, and Lindsay wraps it up not long after. Nice late charge for her cleaning up from the third toss-up onward and finishing in second place, but as I thought, it's Daydra's game without a doubt. Mike, who started so strong, ends up in last place with a worthless Wild Card. Bonus: I had BRIEF no problem, but Daydra and I both struggled with LAYOVER. The Y would have helped a bit but perhaps not even that would be enough. Overall: Decent but unspectacular, not really standing out other than the top dollar hit. A 6/10 from me.

Nothing too exciting. Tossup #2: Interesting to see the plural form of this category show up. Pre-R1 Prize: Finally, something other than a trip! But you know a new trip will be offered tomorrow. R1: Good round for Mike. R2: Nicely done by Daydra. Shame that the electronics were lost. R3: This was a rather boring puzzle, IMO. Enough w/ island-related words, writers! Nonetheless, another nice round for Daydra. R5: Impressive solve by Lindsay. Bonus Round: I got the first word but not he last. Tough luck for Daydra. EPISODE RATING: 6 out of 10

R3: It's not that often that a two-row Prize Puzzle still has cringe-worthy writing... R3/R4: AGAIN, Pat references a null cycle that was cut. (To Lindsay) "This time there is a T." This time? There were no wrong T's before, but R3 didn't have a T, and it wasn't aired, so the cycle (which was after Daydra bought the E's) was likely LAT from Daydra, a dud from Mike (probably L. I had thought a Bankrupt at first since that's where his spin range would put him, but he had the Wild Card and still had it later), and a dud T from Lindsay. Thanks, Pat. I wouldn't have known there was an edit otherwise. BR: I didn't have the second word. I rarely hear anyone ever use the word "LAYOVER". It's always nice to see a non-trip/non-cash/non-shopping spree prize wedge, even if it is just one big ad. Daydra was a good solver, but man, she should have studied the show and the rules better, though I was kind of hoping the FP wedge would get lifted up and not cut out. Interestingly, two events almost happened tonight that have been edited out in the past. First, the FP thing, then at one point (I think during the R5 outro), Pat warned her about falling off the platform (see PICTURE-SKAY episode ) "SOCRATES? " (For those who don't get it, that's the kid from Wheel 2000 who couldn't get SOCRATES in the BR with only the O and A missing, then gave a WTF expression upon finding out the answer.) Rating: 3/5

I swear, I had R2 as soon as he said Quotation. The blanks weren't even up!
Hey, I remember that retro BR! Shame it falls into the vast gap that is October 2002, in which I can't verify the exact date of any answer...
I actually had the BR from just RSTLNE. How freaking hard is it to remember that RSTLNE is spotted already?!

I swear, I had R2 as soon as he said Quotation. The blanks weren't even up! Well, I can't beat that! But I did have it without any letters revealed. I recognized it pretty much instantly, because when I was younger I liked to imagine myself on the show, and I'd always imagine myself getting that puzzle, hitting $5K and putting up all those T's. Daydra was certainly interesting. I got BRIEF off the RSTLNE, but couldn't come up with LAYOVER (the best I could think of was "brief laughter", even though I knew that wasn't it since the T was missing and was a letter too long.)

I remember one bonus round where I blurted out GIGABYTES while the wheel was spinning, and that turned out to be the answer. Beat THAT.

Pretty boring one tonight. Unfortunately BRs are getting harder on us. I swear, I had R2 as soon as he said Quotation. The blanks weren't even up! You know, there's something very wrong if this can happen, no matter how good you are, because it means too much theme-ing is going on.

I'd have to second that. On one of the tossups during Newlyweds Week, I was completely out of the room and solved with just the category. Of course, Newlyweds Week has some of the most obvious theming in the history of themed puzzles, but the fact remains.

I lol'd at Daydra throughout this show. I love how she attempted to pick up the FP (Pat: "3 of our technicians grabbed their hearts when you did that") and tried to spin the wheel during the Speed Up. The Y & V is what sucked about the BR. Overall a good show.

Honestly, I wasn't even thinking about the week's theme when I said it.

The Sony entertainment package is an occasional thing every season... nothing is suddenly changing.

Did they offer one at all last season? I know they did it at least 3 times in S28 (twice as a promotion for the Wii game, once as an EA/PS3 package during Teen Best Friends week), but I don't remember any last season.

Not much to say gameplay-wise, though worth noting that when Daydra landed on the $3,500 and paused before giving a letter, it seems that she was trying to figure out which letter could get her the most money, something not a lot of contestants do. (As it turns out, doubles were the best she could do, so her choice was fine.) She sure gave some entertainment outside of the puzzle-solving; not sure I've ever seen anyone actually try to pick up the Free Play...
That was a hard BR, given how uncommon of a word LAYOVER is, plus the lack of any good consonants to help figure out the word; about the only chance of getting that is calling the Y and either the A or O.

not sure I've ever seen anyone actually try to pick up the Free Play... Believe it or not, this isn't the first time that happened. A contestant did the same back in S27, but she actually managed to lift it off and "break" it, meaning they had to stop tape, and it was all edited out of the show (unfortunately).

Couldn't get the last word of the BR either, wasn't expecting a compound to be used there. BGHO would've been decent if you can't even get BRIEF.

Rare time you get me on one of these, watched with family in town, again they told me to get on. Surely you get this too, Bobby? TU1: I had computer RAT, heh, I was thinking some stupid mice pun. TU2: Educational or not, these ancient puzzles are throwing me through a loop. Which is a shame, because I'm big on philosophy. R1: -ING ending or not, this is a trend that's bugging me, that's pretty obviously a phrase, but labeled WAYD?. Got it a bit before Mike, but solid play. As Dan said, hey, not a trip! Even if it IS the sponsored TV set that pops up every so often, it's some variety and welcomed. Thanks, Harry- can we do this more often? Sony offers a good load of stuff besides TVs, you could offer camcorders, behind the scenes of Sony movie, etc. Food for thought. R2: No letter solve on my end! Didn't get it before the blanks showed, since I thought ROMEO, ROMEO, WHEREFORE ARE THOU, ROMEO? could have showed. I laughed, though, my mother didn't see the blanks in the puzzle by the time I had this. I though yellow had it with no letters, and was annoyed when she didn't. R3: Unlike the ocean views, this type of puzzle writing, is anything but awe-inspiring. Stunned it took the teachers this long, but at least the destination wasn't Costa Rica/Hawaii/usual. TU3: Bizarre TU letter reveal again. Nearly all of student popping up before a single L in council. Way to kill air time, since I needed the L to have any semblance (though I had STUDENT well before). R4: Yay, solved before the bells! I liked that Pat was basically begging for an R5, and thank you Lindsay for ensuring it. R5: This was a nice solve, wasn't even close, and nor was I expecting it to be themed at this stage (since it's really like a Field Day event). BR: Yuck, not with her picks, even. Tough setup, and BGHO is okay at best with LAYOVER: L- - O - ER, where as brief is a gimme with BGHO. I fly my fair share, so I do hear it quite a bit. I honestly prefer this puzzle as just LAYOVER (and it's arguably harder that way). Random fun: Yay, someone tried to pick up the FP, lots of bizarre crap like that, which usually isn't left in. Kind of like an early 2000s show, with prize variety, and what felt like a longer show with 5 rounds, the bloopers, and everything else. Score: 7/10; $500. Sure, it's better than most, but there's a lot of you on the Wheel out there, and a lot of shows comparable. P.S.: I got the feeling that my R2 alternate might appear by the end of the week. Purely a guess, but it makes sense.
