Like last season, they've been cleaning up on the America's Game Weeks. We had a guy named Regis win $40K+ (including a car) despite not solving his bonus puzzle! Not sure if the A's would've been enough to solve the bonus puzzle.

This ended up being at least an entertaining AG week. It was mostly pretty decent, although bad play was littered throughout (not too much tonight though - although another poor player in Teddy had a chance to get off of $0 but had nothing there).
I think that BR is a repeat. It's one of the few super short BRs I'm fine with, as the right vowel is a big help (never mind it's actually A).
Puzzles weren't that great tonight. You just know long THING PPs are going to suck. SAME LETTER was also stretched, and PRESERVES was on the fringe of F&D...

Toss-Ups: Not much to touch on from the puzzles, and nothing from the interviews that I'd want to touch with a standard-issue ten-foot pole. R1: D is an odd first pick by Lydia, but somehow it paid off. Regis was afraid he pulled a similar mistake to Jason's from last night, but he's okay, there's a Y. $2,900 isn't a big round, but it's better than what I expected, which was a spingle. R2: Same Letter? Not Same Name or Before & After? That's unusual. What's NOT unusual, though, is the Same P being wasted on a $300 spin. At least that contributes to a $5,300 round overall, so that's better than most rounds. R3: This round is all Regis - a perfect round for a good chunk of cash plus the obligatory trip and the Ford Fiesta! There were four N's, but who cares about them when a car's on the line? Just like last night, Regis has all the money so far except for one toss-up, which sent $2,000 Lydia's way. R4: Lydia just gets in with the toss-up after kinda sloppy guesses by the men, but she remains $34,000 down and is without a turn following an immediate dud. Pat lowballs the Wheel to $1,300 to save some budget, and Regis gets that amount off a quick single to break the $40,000 mark. Teddy has to be feeling a lot of pain as over $8,000 of banked money evaporates when he can't figure out PRESERVES, because only the Pity Thousand remains for him. Bonus: That puzzle seems familiar (I checked, Ryan used it in last season's Consolation Tourney)... anyway, tough luck by Regis, but he's already won more than $40,000 anyway. Overall: Pretty good, though a bonus win would've been really great. I'll give it a 7/10.

Ah, yes, Walmart. That would do it, since going in there is always an hour minimum. Anyway, placeholder tag removed.

I have the wine.
What a quirky episode. Crooked 1/2 Car Tag. Not realizing your mis-pick was in the puzzle. Kind of wasting the Same Letter. Just quirky.
But hey, big Round 3! Nice haul.
Um...I can't believe Preserves was not solvable without the P. Tough luck there. It just didn't click.
I had the BR as soon as I saw the M. Mat was the only thing that fit and I just knew the show would go for something with a not often called letter like Yoga.

R1: A null cycle was cut out early on, thanks to another Orphaned Reference by Pat. (He said "There we go" after the edit even though things seemed to be going smoothly). My guess for the edited out turns...Lydia - Dud R around $450 / Teddy - $0 Bankrupt next to $2500 / Regis - LAT R2: Kind of wish he didn't call the P's on $300. At least he got the other quintuple on a decent amount, and hopefully there won't be as much low SL calls anymore thanks to there being only two $300 wedges now. R3: To echo Wayoshi, you know that a 4-row Thing puzzle as the PP is going to sound super-contrived. -_- There are endless combinations of words that could be taken out of there and still have it be gramatically correct. R4: I didn't have PRESERVES at the time, either. That's a tricky word at that state. BR:I think that BR is a repeat. I thought so, too, but there's no record of it in Bobby's bonus puzzle site. Probably was used in the 1990s, though. I'm guilty of it sometimes, but it can be pretty infuriating when people's guesses use RSTLNE letters... Nice, no puzzles were America-themed today. Wish the audience had bothered cheering when Regis hit his second car half... They tell you not to say anything about your outcome until your show airs...but Regis said "forget it" and spilled all the beans to the local news and it was all published this morning, which I saw. Thanks, Regis. -__- Though I must say the story about Pat pulling up to him after the show in his Jaguar was pretty cool. Rating: 6/10Average Rating For This Week: 5.6

Tossups #3: Not-so-great guess by both men on that one. I don't think I've seen anybody take a walk in the lake.
R1: Not sure why Regis tried to change his fist pick from Y to H, but both of them were good anyway.
R2: I didn't like it either when Regis chose the P as the SL for $1,500, but $5,300 is still OK anyway.
R3: Excellent round for the man who's last name isn't Philbin!
R4: I can't believe Teddy wasted his only $8600 when it was so obvious what is was. The pity thousand was truly deserved.
Bonus Round: I was able to get just before time started, but it was tough w/ quite a few possibilities for the second word. Too bad Regis couldn't nearly double his winnings.
Bill Murray from Tuesday can breathe a sigh of relief after blowing his BR.

As I said in my earlier post, Ryan used that puzzle in the Season 5 DPG Consolation Tourney, just a couple months back. That may be where you've got the deja vu from.

Toss Ups: Nothing to really comment on here, except I thought that TU3 was going to be BACK IN THE GAME.
R1: D for dafuq was up with making that your first call?! Nice save with the Y, Regis, and for saving the H until you had a bigger dollar value.
R2: Lots of multiples here, and Regis was able to take reasonable advantage of them. BTW, in the sample puzzles in the category list, I'm fairly sure PRIM & PROPER is one of the samples for SAME LETTER.
R3: Big Prize Puzzle sort of did sound contrived, but Regis played it the way you're supposed to! Very logical calls, great spins, and protecting that cardboard to drive on outta there with a prize, a trip, a car, and some cash!
R4: Poor Teddy...couldn't cash in on a last-minute "just get some money on the board" Finale. You can't understand what a contestant goes through. I found that it took me longer to realize the solutions on stage than it did at home. You're thinking about so much during the game that obvious answers don't always come to you. To be fair, most people don't call it STRAWBERRY PRESERVES. They call it "strawberry jam" or "strawberry jelly."
BR: Ouch! What a toughie! I knew it was MAT, but he definitely needed that extra A. Oh well, can't complain when you missed out on winning LESS than you had going in!
Overall: Regis was a dominant player (didn't take unnecessary risks, called logical letters - mostly, and controlled himself capably), and unfortunately, Teddy paid the price. Lydia did nothing remarkable, but still got $5,000 for her troubles. Full closing sequence on Friday! 7/10.

Is it wrong that the first thing I thought of was Peter Griffin? R1: D for dafuq was up with making that your first call?! I have nothing to say in response; I just love this line. /C is for Corporate phraseology //D is for Deal with it ///E is for Effort ////F is for Freaking stupid Same Letter puzzles /////T is for TOO DAMN HIGH

I knew YOGA MAT was familiar, but didn't think it'd be from there... has the show used puzzles that you guys had used for DPG first before? Anyways, Regis still did well in the main game. Teddy had a great opportunity to leave with a good amount of money but unfortunately hasn't passed by the aisle of jams and jellies in the supermarket lately...

The Jaguar story reminds me of what happened after I finished taping. Since mine was the last to tape, we had to clear out as soon as we got our stuff. My friends were already at the other end of the lot, hanging by the parking garage, but I thought they were waiting just outside the studio. So, I waited a little while until a security guard pointed me in the right direction. Well, as I was walking by, I noticed some nearby parking spaces right outside the main studio door labeled for important staff members. Right as I wondered "where do Pat and Vanna park?", I saw Pat Sajak climb into the driver's seat of a Mercedes. He saw me, climbed back out, and waved and smiled. What a way to send me home . However, if I was smart, I would've realized that my cell phone was on and that I could've asked Pat for a quick photo before I left. Still, it was very cool to see him after the show. EDIT: I think I know why the 1/2 Car tag was crooked. Did anyone notice that Regis dropped his buzzer while doing the "victory dance" in TU1? Yeah, the cord draped over the railing and I think the device was actually touching the Wheel. When Regis went to pull the device up, it may have scraped against the 1/2 Car tag, knocking it sideways.

The buzzer didn't hit the tag. You can see during the $1K wipe that it was crooked from the start.

stardf29: I don't know about DPG, but I've had multiple puzzles from my forum games be used (either word-for-word or in modified form) as puzzles, even once while the puzzle was still active!

Right as I wondered "where do Pat and Vanna park?", I saw Pat Sajak climb into the driver's seat of a Mercedes. Off topic but when I was at the Jeopardy (and Wheel of Fortune) at the end of November Jeopardy had a some sort of youth group full of preteens in the audience. One of the youth asked Alex if came to the studio in a limo and if he had a driver. He said he did not and drives himself to the studio in his pickup truck and arrives at 7am on game day so we can go over all the games, look up pronunciation, and even do some background research. I know Vanna has talked about driving a Toyota Prius. I guess you would assume Pat, Vanna, & Alex would have drivers paid for by the studio but they're just like everybody else and drive themselves to and from work.

Absolutely right. Also, when Vanna came backstage to greet us after she arrived around 9AM (got a funny story about that, by the way, but I'll tell it in Spinning Stories once California Coast Week draws near), we noticed that she was dressed rather plainly in a sweater and jeans, with her hair in a ponytail. One of the things I liked about meeting Pat and Vanna was how genuine and down to Earth they were off-camera.
