(John is wearing a black suit, with a black and white tie, and Adriana is wearing a short black dress. John mentions how we are in Heat 1 of Week 2 of the Champion Challenge, and that whoever wins the Grand Final, will fly Business Class to Los Angeles, for a 20 day tour of California and the Canadian Rockies, thanks to Australian Pacific Tours, and Qantas. John also mentions that if, as a viewer, your name is partnered with one of the Grand Final Contestants, you could have the chance to win a fantastic 1995 Renault 19, worth over $25,990. John then mentions that the viewer, who is partnered with the winning contestant today, will automatically win $1,000, before heading to their respective podiums)

John Deeks: This is a Grundy Television Production for the Seven Network Australia. John Deeks speaking.
This was from John Burgess’ 2nd last year on Wheel of Fortune. Unfortunately, in July 1996, due to some serious executive meddling, John was sacked without notice, the show moved to Sydney, and Tony Barber began to host it. It was also from the era of the 3D cone backdrops. Unfortunately I don’t know anymore about the Champion Challenge apart from this episode, so if there any Australian users on this forum who have any more episodes of this era, if you could upload them to Youtube, that would be most appreciated. I also got the date of the episode from a offhand remark that John made during the episode that Valentine’s Day was “next Tuesday”. Unfortunately the Youtube clip starts about halfway through the intro, when John Deeks is introducing Anna, but I have a friend who was a sound engineer for Wheel (he works for Channel 7 now, on their breakfast show) at that time, and he was able to find that whole episode in the 7 network archive, and was able to tell me the first part of the intro.
