Windows, since you're new here and I can't find the rule about it, I politely request you not request/demand wheels, which goes for everyone; I'm sure you won't do this again. These people have lives and will make the wheels on their own time. Thanks! ok.

So this was a wheel my late grandfather and I made when I was a wee lad of just 8. Not pictured: 8 prize wedges, Jackpot, Surprise, and the Free Spin token. The "Waverunner" wedge was an oversight on my part, so now it's just a wedge that changes rules every time we play. Sometimes it's what later became Free Play, sometimes it's Double Play, sometimes it's "spin the wheel the opposite direction and play as usual." The $10K wedge is permanent, also.

^Suppose I should probably mention: my Jackpot goes over $450, Surprise over $200, Free Spin over $300, and the second wheel prize appears on $350. I made a couple of Mystery Wedges out of printer paper, and those go over $500 and Waverunner. The back of the "right" Mystery wedge holds $20,000.

I have re-done my custom Wheels and I wanted to post them here. As always, credit goes to Mario for helping me out. Basically, these have a more mid-90s feel than what mine used to be like. Round 1:
Round 2: (Round 2 Prize and Wild Card are added.)Round 3: (Jackpot Round. MDW is added over second Bankrupt. Round 2 Prize is held over if not won. Free Spin removed after Round 2.)
Round 4: (Wild Card and Surprise are removed after Round 3. Round 4 Prize added. Round 2 Prize would be here if still not claimed and would go over orange $400.)
Here are the bare Wheels: And I know you might think that having $1000 as the TDV in Round 1 is cheap, but overall, these are 11% higher than the layouts the show uses today. So what do you guys think?

I'd always wondered what a modern update to the early '90s wheels would look like, and I think you did a good job of updating them. However, I think you could have kept some of the values the same--for example, you made it too easy to hit big money in R1 (which kinda cheapens $1000 as the top dollar value)--you only have one $300 space on the whole wheel. $550 next to Bankrupt could've stayed $350. The wedges to the right of top dollar didn't need to increase either (although I see what you did with having them go 6-7-8-9-10).
I think the biggest issue I have with all four of the wheels is that there's very little balance between high and low values--whereas the actual wheel has a cluster of three-digit values (and even those have a good distribution of high-middle-low figures), yours has only big money and bigger money. The beauty about putting values on the wheel is that you want to have a good distribution of higher and lower values to encourage players to keep spinning. When they're all relatively close together, as is the case with all of your wheels (but most glaringly so with R1), it really doesn't make a difference what the player hits as long as it isn't Bankrupt or Lose a Turn.
I'm not trying to single you out specifically, William--the more I think about it, the more I think a lot of people have this similar problem with their wheels (even mine above). The issue of balance is somewhat remedied in the R4 layout, but remember too even that wheel in the '90s had a smattering of $200 and $250 spaces.
I like more money on the wheel just as much as the next guy, but if the dollar values don't encourage spinning, you're never going to see much of it.

Very nice, William, but I notice a problem with the Jackpot wedge. The orange $500 space that it sits on will not be used at all. After looking at the layouts, do you think placing it on the blue $600 (maybe switch values with the adjacent $500 in the process) would be a better idea since it will be used in round 4? That's my suggestion.

If I ran the show, Rounds 3 and 4 would be in the same segment if it was a given we had extra time. They would both have the same wheel except the Jackpot would be removed. If it wasn't a given, Round 4 would proceed as normal and Round 5 after that if we indeed had extra time.
I meant to explain that, thanks for noticing.

Hey, no problem, William. BTW, I think I realize that's probably one of my specialties here - studying Wheel layouts.

A Round 4 wheel that I came up with for use in a future forum game, should I be chosen to host one. What do you think?

I like it, but I would suggest swapping the colors of the pink $800 and purple $400. Two pink wedges only two wedges apart looks funny, IMO. Also, I'd try to fit $550 and/or $700 on that Wheel, unless one of them is where the $2000 is in eariler rounds. Otherwise, nice work. Where would your add-on wedges go? I might some of those layouts if I get the chance.

To those of you who make your own (particularly WheelGenius and Germanname, since you both do the best work here, IMO), how do you make your own layouts? What programs do you use for them? Thank you in advance

Germanname uses Microsoft Publisher. Wheelgenius uses Photoshop. I use Paint.NET and Guint uses GIMP, both being free Photoshop clones. I really recommend Paint.NET if you don't have Photoshop, or GIMP if you're a Mac user. Either program is essential if you want to use shadowed numbers and customize your wedges better.

I actually use more than Publisher, MarioGS. That's used to put in the text, numbers, numbers, and shapes. I use Paint to put in the colors. I use Powerpoint's Set Transparent Color feature to put in the gradient and sparkly effects. After that, I use Publisher for the rest. I also use Powerpoint and Publisher to make the templates I do not have Photoshop, and I doubt I'll need it anytime soon.

Thank you both... I'll be stuck with Paint.NET, since I've got no way of affording Photoshop (I use Windows 8, FYI). I've got Office 2007 Home and Student (does NOT have Publisher, only Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook), so what works in place of Publisher?
