Yes, the FULL EPISODE of Shopper's Bazaar was made available on YouTube this morning, thanks to gamelover1949, aka DownsA350, aka David Downs. And David Downs is awesome for this, too, check this out: "I actually do. I might post that in the future, but we'll see." It being the Byrnes pilot, this is amazing. Dang it, David, you're a member here, post more- we'd love to have you.

How could I most likely repay Mr. Downs for finally posting this rare gem? High five to that, Downsy! Although that pilot didn't quite cut the mustard, it's still fun to watch.
And speaking of user 'gamelover1949', I call his channel a "TV time capsule" since he has original game show broadcasts complete with commercials.

No apology necessary for something like this, swhammy. David, I can't thank you enough! You never fail to please the game show fandom! ;D First "Chitty Chitty, Bang Bang", now "Spinning Wheel" by Blood, Sweat & Tears? More appropriate, at least. Is the Shopper Special timer cue a song, too? Anyone notice how they calculated the first player's score wrong? She only should have had $850 after Round 1, not $950. What did those ladies take before the show? They are WAY too excited.

The Shoppers' Special bonus cue is "A Time For Tony".

nowhammies11 - That's for darn sure. We all know it was later used as a jewelry/fur coat prize cue as of 1983. Besides, I too can't help but stand the excitement in those ladies. Guess that was more likely the fun part.

That was really interesting to see a gem like this. I never knew "Wheel" originated from this !!!

Fantastic to finally see how everything worked on the pilot, and how appropriate for "Spinning Wheel" to be one of the cues. ;D

-What's up with these ladies? Reacted very loudly the whole show. Maybe this was pretty big money in... 1973, I think that's the date. -I'm glad this permanent bank slowly accumulating towards pre-chosen prizes thing was modified. It's confusing to track and a bit detached as we don't see enjoy seeing the choosing process, which Wheel was able to eventually streamline without taking too much time. It also emphasized solving for nothing late in the game if you hadn't solved yet, which isn't too proper. -They needed short puzzles at this time with those amounts on the Wheel (which shouldn't have $0 of course...), but boy did it feel limited. The last round shouldn't be only 10 letters long. -Really generic categories, along with a meh clue feature that just actually specifies the category. -Chuck forgot to check if she wanted to use Free Spin the first time! -Those 2 F's could have led to a complete win. The Wheel seems to be fairly risky at this point though. -That BR was too easy, loooooooooooooool. You can't just give them unlimited consonants even with a time limit.

But apparently, if a player landed on it again, they'd get a more helpful clue.
There was a R5 puzzle last season that was only 9 letters (CHECKMATE!). Of course, several wrong letters were edited out of that round.

Saving this for a subscriber count special? LAAAMEEEE. But I do love DownsA530. Downs very recently acquired it, Byrnes' first pilot, and Tomarken's Monopoly pilot from Chuck Donegan. I'm guessing it was closer to "Let's see, I need an excuse to post this...hey, I just got over 1,500 subscribers. " (For the record, there are things David won't upload from his collection -- when I asked him for a Wheel episode for my birthday, I asked for October 8, 1980 because...well, duh; his response was that he had been asked not to upload it, so I chose another episode I hadn't seen before; hence, Celia/Joseph/Gloria from September 1984.) Anyway, the only thing left to see from Bazaar is the production slate; before I got an email suggesting this upload was coming, I asked my source on the pilot info for a pic of the slate. Maybe that'll happen, maybe not -- he's a big Wheel fan, but he's also a busy guy; as such, I'm not going to push it.

Mario, we all know that's a super rare exception. All the puzzles were fairly short two-worders here.

This is a FANTASTIC find. I agree that the ladies were shouting a lot! That audience is lucky to have seen history in the making. Who would have ever thought that a show like this would spawn to the show we know today. This was great to watch! Question: Does anyone know the date this was taped/aired, besides 1973?

Never aired, as it's an unsold pilot. However, the episode was PROBABLY taped in early September '73, due to the semi-relevance of the Round 1 puzzle, HENRY KISSINGER.

I think that the pilot seemed cooler when I read it it than when I actually saw it.
My thoughts:
This looks like it was a show someone put one for like a stage show, it seemed samll. The ladies were way to excited, what annyoed me the most was that the women were cheering when they knew the puzzle out loud. The best parts of the show were the flashy wheel and the buzzer. The scoring system was weird, SOlving a puzzle meant your money was safe, but you could lose money from your account for buying a vowel? And why wasn't the bonus round for the top prize (the trip if the top prize is won. The BR is was too easy with 30 seconds.
The board was good, and it seemed good on paper, but it still needed a lot of work before becoming the legend it is today.

The ladies playing on this pilot were quite amped up, to say the least. Screaming wildly at any little thing happening during the game, even out of turn... plus the convoluted scoring system, and the Shopper's Special-it's no wonder this pilot didn't sell, and Merv had to overhaul his concept afterward!
EDIT: I'm sure Pat would NOT want to host something like this, especially with the motorized wheel, given what he said about the automatic spinning of the actual series' Wheel on his website.
