February 14, 2013 Recap

This (11) is the longest BR losing streak since the end of Season 20 & the start of Season 21 (12). Even if the O's had been called, I doubt the first word would've been solved anyway. How the heck the second word wasn't even gotten is beyond me.

Oh boy, what can I say...

R1: A fine round for the Sebrells.

R2: Nice rebound for the Stranges after their early $3,500 spin gets canceled out by BANKRUPT.

R3: So much for the MDW that doesn't get taken away by BANKRUPT too often this season.

R4: This was a good time for a $6K Final spin to happen, but I can't believe Tara called the frontloading W instead of checking the other consonants! Terrible move by her.

Bonus Round: If Tara's blunder wasn't bad enough, the Stranges really blew it w/ a second word that fits as a person (ATHLETE). I'll bet w/ you we have yet another BR shutout for tomorrow.

Not going to say anything about R4 because it's all been said.

I got the BR right away with RSTLNE, mainly because that's exactly the type of appetite I have, but yeah, that was a tough one. Either you knew the first (tough) word or you didn't, since pretty much no one calls V in the BR. Though they probably should have at least gotten APPETITE...

Oh, boy...what an atrocious show.

Toss-Ups: Only highlight here was Team 2 getting TU3 before I could.

R1: Well-played round with lots of multiples claimed. Too bad Team 3 didn't get much face time afterward (they were really the only team I liked).

R2: Cardboard was flyin', but a lot of bad penalties. Poor Les...clearly he proved he was whipped in this round. Thank God his wife was there to make the save when he almost repeated a letter.

R3: Little to no reaction to the MDW hit?!?! UGGGH! At least there was some reaction to the predictable MDW Bankrupt. I thought that Team 1's Free Play spingle was pointless. If you already know what the puzzle is and you hit Free Play, call a multiple consonant! Yes, the Prize Puzzle gave Team 1 the lead, but it was a precarious lead...

R4: ...as this round would prove. Gotta love a $6,000 Speed-up with 3 opportunities to score a multiple. However, Tara clearly blew it. If she had sounded out the words in her head, she would've realized that there were at least two Ls. I'll bet Tara was kicking herself after last night's viewing party. Team 1 won, yes, but it was mostly trips. The plus side: Sandals is gonna love seeing them. The minus: the money they won clearly won't be enough to pay the taxes on the prizes, so I think they may have to forfeit at least one of the trips (which you can do to prevent a tax burden).

Bonus: Mario, gotta love the SAT Prep comment. That is my line of work, by the way. Indeed, a sample problem in our book hinges on you knowing what a "VORACIOUS APPETITE" is. I was able to figure it out once Vanna was revealing more letters. This adjective + noun combo actually made sense, but the guesses did not. Subsequently...(I pull out my bass and strum Queen's most famous bassline)

ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST!

Overall: When there's only one team you genuinely like (Sorry, but it seemed like Katie and Les were not cohesive, and Tara did the grunt work - literally - while Dwayne was nervous and just there), and that team gets little face time, and you have an audience who barely reacts to the wild moments, and a solvable Bonus is blown by stupid guesses, it doesn't make a good Wheel episode. The best part was actually Pat's jokes. Next...4/10

How the hell did you think A__ET_TE was ATHLETE?

They must've changed the camera angle a bit or something, because I can definitely tell that the G in GAME is facing straight at the camera. That means the Bonus Wheel starts at whatever's 180° from G.

Also, Bobby, by my count, the longest losing streak is 13 at the start of S20. Where was the 12-loss streak in S21?
