Hey, we broke out of the L12 at least. It was only a matter of time really before a key vowel was actually called when it was... the key vowel.
A pretty boring and a bit sloppy of a game otherwise.
When's the last time Pat has spun three 6k's and a week, and/or two in a row? Very unusual nowadays.

Toss-Ups: Tug and Melissa get a nice boost here with the sweep.
R1: Unfortunately, that start is derailed by Bankrupt. Our pair at the blue podium take over to the tune of $4,550 cash and gift after a couple close calls of their own - they also left two pairs behind.
R2: Tommy has a powerful spin, well over the full rotation! Again, this couple gets a few thousand and then solves with plenty of letters left, but $5,500 isn't bad for a quick perfect round.
R3: We hear from the red team for the first time, and they almost manage to find their way onto the board, but they think PAUSE instead of CAUSE and it costs them. Tug and Melissa score the Bahamas trip instead and edge their way into the lead.
R4: Despite getting well into the round, time gets just short enough that the bells will sound anyway. It's ANOTHER $6,000 speedup, and $7,350 for Tug and Melissa seals their win. Too bad for the red team, as they're going home with the Pity $2,000.
Bonus: I has thinking CRUISING originally, but got it with their picks. Thank God for a win to end the losing streak, and it's a car win to boot!
Overall: Not the best show, with repeat letters and abandoned multiples, but the Bonus Round win pushes this up to a 6/10, just for breaking the run of fail.

Sorry that the Klipfels got shut out & the $6K FS came too late (we've had two of those this week midway in R4, which is unusual these days). At least the McErlains came through on what I thought was an easy bonus puzzle; BROWSING was my first guess. In the past three weeks (including this one), we haven't played for anything more than $35K in cash &/or car in the BR; that should change soon.

R1: $4,550 is decent, but the Meekses should have gone for at least the H's.
R2: Again, the Meekses leave behind some multiples, but $5,500 is an improvement.
R3 and R4: Tough luck for the Klipfels -- it was either PAUSE or CAUSE, and they picked the wrong one by going for the P. And it's too bad they didn't get much chances to play.
Bonus Round: I groaned when the McErlains wasted that G, but thank goodness they proved me wrong on this week being another shutout! BROWSING was also my first guess. Hopefully, we'll have a long string of BR wins beginning w/ this one.

Recap is now up. Sorry for the long delay. You'll be seeing Bobby's recaps again next week. Sorry you didn't get picked again at the Wheelmobile, Bobby.  R1: Too bad for Tug & Melissa that their Bankrupt hit at the start ended up being the only penalty hit all game, but they probably didn't mind in the end. R3: PAUSE? :huh: BR: Yay, single word! And not a compound word!  Oh, yeah, and the streak was broken.  Appropriate time to do it, too, since the mass losses started on the 16th of January, so barring 1/30, it was a full calendar month of losses not counting weekends. Ouch. I had CRUSING with RSTLNE. Good job by "talking it out". Decent end to the week. This was actually a pretty decent week overall for a couples/Sandals week. Rating: 6/10

Tug and Melissa were excellent puzzle solvers, so it's fitting that they were the ones to finally break the BR losing streak. I first thought it was PRAISING, just for the irony (since Tug is a youth pastor), but that critical O did the trick.
R3: Never heard of "a pause for celebration"; even if that was a legit phrase, the C would have been the smarter thing to call, since that letter would be in the puzzle regardless of what the second word was. Unfortunately, that mistake meant Tracy and John got the Pity 2-Thousand.

Toss-Ups: Nice, quick starts. Loved how Team 2 got the sweep and caused a lead change.
R1: Rough start, but a well-played round afterward.
R2: Although a few multis were left behind, I can understand wanting to solve to hang on to the 1/2 Car. Nicely played Perfect Round.
R3: Somewhat short for a Prize Puzzle. I had it when the S appeared. The immediate solve is usually something I frown upon, but by closing in on Team 3's lead and making it precarious, Team 2 actually made a smart move.
R4: This would actually make a decent Bonus puzzle, as it took me a while to pair FANCY with HANDWRITING. Another $6,000 Speed-Up to end the week, and Team 2 wisely cashed in!
Bonus: I, too, thought CRUISING when the RSTLNE came up. Team 2 chooses the key vowel and it pays off in spades! The drought ends in a nice way, and you've gotta love Tug's celebrations (in the Bonus and when he and his wife won the game). Oh, yeah...one-word wonder = BAVGO, dammit!
Overall: Thank God the three-week period of corporate themes is over. Pet Lovers' Week is next week, and it's one of my favorites, being an animal lover myself. Following that week, CALIFORNIA COAST! I get to see the 15 wack-a-doos that I got to spend November 15 with again, and I finally get to share some stories! Watch the Spinning Stories section for more. Further, instead of my usual reviews, I'll be providing commentary, including personal recollections and dirt on the contestants.
Oh, yeah...the show. Enjoyable episode, really. The gameplay was mostly intelligent and everyone seemed to be getting along great. I liked all three couples, but the one who deserved to win did so in a big way, and there's always something satisfying about that. Pat, Vanna, and Jim kept the mood fun, too, even though I smelled Pat's joke about windmills on the golf course from a mile away (though you'd expect Vanna to make a joke like that, seeing as she's from Myrtle Beach, which is loaded with regulation and mini-golf courses). The Bonus Round drought finally ended. 8/10. See you for Pet Lovers' Week!

I remember during the Prize Puzzle hoping that Tracy and John wouldn't call "P." I remember saying, "Don't choose P. Don't choose it." Tracy says "P," and I scream, "NO!" Then I was like, "Wow. They're not going to win anything." Sure enough that's what happened.
If there's any good news, I'm glad yesterday prevented two consecutive weeks from being bonus round shut-outs. When the RSTLNE was put up, I felt the answer was CRUISING, but then after the other letters were put up, I knew it was BROWSING, but I was worried about whether or not they were going to get it.
By the way, MarioGS, I love your recap style. It's very visual. |

I had CRUISING at first. So happy to see a win finally.
Was there a null at the start of R4? The first spin didn't look like it started from the $5000 area.

Yes. What a way to end this losing streak. I hoping next week will get better, with retro clips and bonus rounds wiil make a return. I hope.
But also, I notice Pat Wii avatar is feature and the THQ logo (pre 2011 to be exact) is in the credits. I wonder if they continue to use Pat and Vanna avatar and might use Pipework logo in the credit instead, because this week was taped before THQ is closed.
