Rufus rings in and takes the first thousand dollars, possibly for use in WHALE WATCHING.
CONTESTANT INTERVIEWS:
Rufus Cumberlander is from Ewa Beach on Oahu, where he is a liaison officer with the Department of Defense. He's a 13-year Navy veteran and married to his wonderful wife, Celine. When not caring for his four-year-old son, Nahi, he enjoys singing karaoke and the music of Ray Charles.
Alana Wegel makes her home in Honolulu, working as a speech therapist for the school district there. In her spare time, she's a surfer and yoga instructor (both on land and in the water on paddleboards). She's originally from New Jersey, but has been living in Hawaii for three years now, making her way west.
Sharyn Taniguchi lives in Hilo on the Big Island. While she was born there, she was raised in San Francisco and only returned 12 years ago to care for her parents. Currently, she is a full-time caretaker for her father. She's been married to her husband, Dennis, for 34 years; they have three sons - Scott, Troy, and Sy - and recently added one grandson, Kanta.

Alana starts with a $700 S. She pays for a pair of E's and then gets the A without spending money, thanks to Free Play. Next up is the big $2,500 space, and the are four, count them, four T's! She then gets a couple H's on $550 and double D's on the New Orleans trip! An N is next, on $600, followed by a pair of I's being purchased. There are four L's for her on $650...

ROUND 2 (MYSTERY ROUND): SAME NAME

Sharyn is in a big hole, and starts with a big spin as the Mystery wedge near Free Play comes up - there's one T, and she flips up the $10,000 cash prize! It's not spendable, so she must spin again and lands on the other Mystery spot, now a "regular $1,000" space for an N. She buys two E's and then picks up an $800 D to make up the loss. Three A's are paid for next, followed by a $600 L. She finishes off the vowels by getting the pair of O's, then hits another big number - a $3,500 C! There are no vowels left, so she's forced to take a consonant on Free Play, and she calls for two M's. After a bit of a scare from Pat, he realizes that there is indeed a W, so she adds the Adventure In Hawaii gift tag to her big bank. However, the momentum breaks down because the B is bad on $900.
Rufus also lands on $900, successfully picking up the Y. The last letter is a G, which he gets for $500 (near that same orange $900, where a 1/2 Car would normally be)...

_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
Rufus just tips off the Express to $900, and he finds a slew of S's - four to be exact. He buys the only A, then picks up the Wild Card and $500 with the N. That's a great time to have it, because his next spin is $3,500 for a D, after which he uses the Wild Card for a $3,500 T! He invests in three E's before hitting $650 for a trio of R's. Two O's go up at a cost of $250, then a couple of M's earn him $500 each. He thinks he has the right answer...
