I had the Bonus with your picks (I initially thought it was CATCHING A _____ _____.) With just RSTLNE, I thought it was "catching" as well. CHPA are my go-to picks when I'm playing the app, and I had in my mind that I wanted to switch it up and choose "O" since that seems to do better on the real game, but the pressure got to me, and I just went back to my default choices. I'm still not sure if I would have gotten it with "O" or not, but I would have definitely had a better shot. I normally go for PGHO while playing the app (which might’ve helped somehow), but sometimes substitute some letters if I know they’re in the puzzle. I was yelling “Pick the O, pick the O!”, but to no avail. What a shame. I’m impressed that some of the BAV people had this with RSTLNE. Maybe it was because of the TOUGH WORKOUT puzzle from season 30, but have you not picked the C, I probably would’ve been stumped, mainly because WORKOUT VIDEO isn’t something that’s really FUN & GAMES. I only had it with the picks is because there’s a limited range of things to connect with “WATCH” if the category is Fun & Games.

Unfortunately sometimes they really do write these BRs with manipulating the vowel called in mind, which is something no amount of raw puzzle studying can help. You should have seen their "redundant A" phase of the mid-2000's (Place: A GULF).

^ Here's some additional ones:
A BRIDGE A BIKINI (I faced that puzzle on a Net Game Central Wheel of Fortune Game (It was categorized as THING and without the A.). I didn't get it.) A DUKE A GAG GIFT A GUTSY DAY A SPOKESMAN A GROUP HUG A GAME OF BINGO A GAME OF CROQUET A FRUIT JAR A BUSYBODY
Those are all of the bonus puzzles that pop out of my head that utilized the "Redudant A" in the early-mid 2000s. They also did this in tossups (A BED & BREAKFAST) and in regular rounds (A FATHER-TO-BE PACING BACK AND FORTH).

I'm still not sure if I would have gotten it with "O" or not, but I would have definitely had a better shot. To be fair, as of Season 35 or so, A is becoming much more popular again thanks to many contestants in recent years catching on to GHPO, mainly because of a Washington Post article that cites those as the best calls, and it worked out for a lot of people in Seasons 33-34 (it was called twice at my taping, one was a win, one was a choke; heck even I had it in mind but knew the P would have been a waste in my case). Also, Doug, are you the type of viewer that instantly recalls previous puzzles? I ask because we had VIRAL VIDEO last season, which was notable for being solved on the buzzer and warranting a "check the tape" stopdown in the studio, and I was wondering if you had a flashback to that at all. I know that was before you joined here, though.

Also, what’s with the recent cases of a short R4 puzzle leading to a longer R5 puzzle (and in this case, an even longer BR puzzle) - in terms of letter and word count?

^ I did this once in my home games to allow time for more rounds (My most recent home-hosted game had R4 be LIGHTNING BOLT (Thing) and R5 be BLOOMINGTON MINNESOTA (On The Map).).

I thought you would get stumped on JOKES, but thankfully, that didn't happen. Actually, I was stumped on that word for the whole puzzle. I just kept spinning and praying that I didn't land on BANKRUPT or LAT because I had no other choice. Thankfully, it worked out very well for me, but it could have gone very differently. I fully credit that 3500 spin on the fact that I didn't know it until it finally "clicked" in my mind as soon as I called the Y!

Also, Doug, are you the type of viewer that instantly recalls previous puzzles? Not usually. After I taped, I came back on the forum to see if any of you all had predicted something similar in the "predicting future BRs" thread, and in searching through previous puzzles, that's when I saw that TOUGH WORKOUT was actually solved for the million several years ago (I was not watching Wheel at that time). What are the odds that word came up in two big-money puzzles? I found myself wishing I had gone over at least a few more past puzzles in preparation, but then again, hindsight is 20/20.

Doug that was AMAZING!! I was rooting for you the whole show! Winning two trips AND money is a dream! haha. SUCH a bummer that it was the $100,000 you lost on, but it was a really tough puzzle. And I'm sure the experience was incredible! It must have been nerve-wracking having to wait until the last taping of the day to go!

psychdrdoug There weren't any rounds thrown out were there? I found Round 3 odd since it was short for a Prize Puzzle, and didn't really tie into the prize in any way.

I found the Prize Puzzle writing for all 6 episodes shot that day to be pretty generic and a very far cry from the usual landscape-type language that the PP typically consists of. Maybe they finally hit their limit with that. It seemed like they have switched tactics to now have the PP be phrases one might say when they are told they are going on the trip.

^ I actually remember a Prize Puzzle on a net game on another site where the answer was THE TWELFTH MAN (Person) and the trip awarded with that was Seattle. That also struck me as unusually short and odd because the results say that it was a movie about WWII. And no, this wasn’t a replacement puzzle.
Also, by the means of “phrases one might say”, I seriously hope to god that THERE ARE SO MANY CASTLES isn’t one of them.

They’ve still got work to do with spoiling the trip within the puzzles (ex. DISCOVERING SCOTLAND or, more blatantly, I JUST WON A TRIP TO THE BAHAMAS!).

^ The actual WHEEL show isn’t the only one that did this. I remember another net game (different site) where the prize puzzle was WHEEL IS SENDING ME TO BELIEZE! (And yes, the trip was Belieze.)
That was another example of bad puzzle writing because it outright said the trip. This always annoys me.

It seemed like they have switched tactics to now have the PP be phrases one might say when they are told they are going on the trip. If that’s the case, they ought to make a new category called “What Are You Thinking?” because these really don’t fit the definition of the “Phrase” category, and casual viewers have noticed in recent years.

If they make that category, they'll have to use things like DOWN WITH WHEEL, I'D LIKE TO CHANGE THE CHANNEL, JEOPARDY! IS BETTER, THIS IS SO SAD CAN WE BRING BACK SUSAN?...
