Season 37 Pre-emptions and Anomalies

WBRE had pre-empted Wheel today until the middle of Round 3 due to weather coverage.

The MLB game overran over an hour. FOX did not sign off until 11:03 PM Eastern, with most stations starting programming or local news at 11:08 after commercials.

For stations that schedule Wheel after the game, in most cases, the stations need to air a minimum amount of local news coverage after the game, in which case Wheel and other programs are forced to air later than the time they are listed. Here's how it all went down tonight:

KDVR Denver completely skipped both Jeopardy! and Wheel since they have local news at 11:00 PM Eastern/9:00 PM Mountain. Expect this to happen every time Wheel is moved to 8:30.

WDAF Kansas City was the only station that did not delay Wheel further. They scheduled a consecutive two hours of local news from 9-11 PM Central, but Wheel still aired on schedule at 11:00.

WLUK Green Bay aired Wheel around 11:10 PM Central, 35 minutes later than scheduled (I checked it around 11:29 and the Speed-Up had just started). They scheduled 90 minutes of news between the game and Wheel, but only aired 60, which should mean that Wheel shouldn't be delayed from 10:35 if a game overruns by 30 minutes or less. It was nice to see WLUK make it a priority to air Wheel at all, since it was right after it ended that they decided to play schedule catch-up, and a Joined in Progress card appeared before cutting to DailyMailTV on schedule. WLUK viewers should record both airings of DailyMailTV (at 11:05 and 11:35).

WBFF Baltimore aired Wheel around 12:39 AM Eastern, a little over half an hour later than scheduled. Just like WLUK Green Bay, 90 minutes of local news were scheduled, but only about 60 aired. WBFF viewers should record FOX 45 Late Edition and Impractical Jokers.

WVUE New Orleans began Wheel a couple minutes after WBFF did, which suggests that they have a local news minimum of only 30-35 minutes, compared to the 90-95 they have scheduled if the game ends on time. WVUE's site has its 10:00 newscast listed to be 35 minutes (with J! at 11:05 and Wheel at 11:35), but other listings have the news as 30 minutes. If future games overrun by less than 60 minutes, Wheel should not be delayed further. Otherwise, WVUE viewers should record Last Man Standing.

WXIX Cincinnati delayed Wheel by about 8 minutes. I checked just before 1:30 AM Eastern and R3 was just starting, suggesting that they aired 35 of their 95 minutes of news after the game (they normally have a newscast from 11:00-11:35, likely delayed to 11:08-11:43). This should mean that Wheel will only be delayed if the MLB overrun is over an hour. WXIX viewers should record Jeopardy!, or the 1:35 AM airing of Friends if J! is not listed (neither game show was listed tonight, but they are listed for next week).

As for KVHP Lake Charles, I have no idea what their policy is on delayed newscasts since it's the only Wheel FOX affiliate that I don't have access to. They only schedule 30 minutes of news after the game, followed by first-run J!, then Wheel, then Daytime J!, so I have no idea if Wheel got JIP'd around R2, or completely covered up with local news or J!.

WTVC - CHATTANOOGA, TENNESSEE
Due to a technical glitch, the Bonus Round of Monday's Wheel did not air.

During the break before the Bonus Round, the feed went off and a "server outage" message appeared for about two minutes. At 7:27 PM Eastern, the feed returned, still on commercials, then Jeopardy! started early, with Wheel's Bonus Round skipped over.

WROC - ROCHESTER, NEW YORK
Last night's episode was at least partially pre-empted by severe weather coverage.

Last night on FOX, due to the Cubs/Royals game being a huge blowout, they switched to Astros/Diamondbacks game for stations who were not airing it already. The only Wheel affiliates that aired the latter game from the start were WVUE New Orleans and KVHP Lake Charles, due to Louisiana bordering Texas.

The only two stations that did not switch from the Cubs/Royals game were the FOX affiliates in their respective cities: WFLD Chicago and WDAF Kansas City. The latter carries Wheel. I did not check to see how late the Cubs/Royals game run, but the Astros/Diamondbacks game overran to about 10:32 PM Eastern, with programming starting around 10:35. KDVR Denver likely started Wheel mid-R1; they definitely aired the majority of the show as it was on when I checked around 10:44/8:44 their time (caught the British Airways plug).

KVHP Lake Charles had Thursday's Wheel listed for 9:30 PM Central this time instead of 10:00. It either got JIP'd during R1 or got covered with local news.

Turns out this was due to Isaias knocking out power to most of the state on Tuesday. WTNH's main broadcast hub lost power, so they couldn't air syndies at that time and had to put on other stuff as filler. I had no power myself for three days, and there are still several parts that are dark as of Monday. Last Thursday, I stayed at work until 6:30 so I could use the Wi-Fi to stream Thursday's episode off WSYT Syracuse.

WBZ - BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS
Thanks to the US Senate Debate special, The Tuesday night's episodes of Wheel & Jeopardy will air early Wednesday at 1:37 am & 2:07 am respectively.

WFTV - ORLANDO, FLORIDA
Friday's cancelled Dolphins game has been removed from the TV listings. However, Wheel and Jeopardy! are now listed in the opposite time slots on Friday, with Wheel at 7:00 PM Eastern instead of 7:30. Probably another error. This may be because, under the original scheduling with the NFL game, Wheel was scheduled to air immediately afterwards at 10:00 PM (meaning a very low chance of Wheel airing in full unless they opted to delay it), with J! at 10:30 (likely so that it wouldn't be affected by overrun; I see stations do that a lot - swap the order of WOF/J! if they schedule them after sporting events so that Wheel is the one to suffer overrun cutoff or skips).

MON-THU: PACIFIC TIME ZONE & ALASKA

Due to the Democratic National Convention airing on all major networks live at 10:00 PM Eastern/7:00 PM Pacific, Wheel is pre-empted on all stations in the Pacific and Alaska Time Zones. Most stations in these regions are moving their 7:00 PM hour programming to the free 10:00 PM hour. In general, Wheel will air three hours later than its usual time. The only exception for Wheel is KNSD San Diego, which is opting to air a rerun of Dateline NBC at 10:00 PM, with no Wheel until Friday. Some stations still have the 10:00 hour listed as "To Be Announced", but their websites confirm Wheel will air there.

NOTE: If the DNC runs past 10:00 Eastern/7:00 Pacific, several stations will not air Wheel in its entirety, cutting off the beginning of the show by however many minutes the DNC overran. These stations have a red exclamation point (!) next to their air times.
