Sorry to get off topic, but according to a post on Reddit from someone who was planning to attend tomorrow's tapings of Jeopardy!, Jeopardy! will not have studio audiences for the rest of the season likely due to the coronavirus. Since J! and Wheel share some of the same staff, Wheel will also likely do this despite the fact that there is a contest for the March 12 tapings since they are for Great American Cities: The San Francisco Bay Area.

Spinning this off into its own thread. TMZ has confirmed that both Jeopardy! and Wheel will not have audiences until further notice, citing three concerns. One: Alex Trebek's compromised immune system. Two: Many audience members are of old age, therefore at higher risk. Three: Many audience members come from out of town. www.tmz.com/2020/03/09/jeopardy-wheel-of-fortune-scrap-audience-coronavirus-spread-alex-trebek/Wheel has seven more taping days for Season 37: March 12-13, March 25-27, and April 8-9.

So, one of the reasons they're not going to have an audience is because of traveling?
What about the contestants that need to travel in order to tape? Are they going to have local contestants for the remaining tapings, like they did with one of the Secret Santa weeks?

I would think contestants for both shows will basically have to decide if they feel comfortable traveling to LA to tape at this time. Of course, as is always the case, they can decline and the contestant department will reach out again some other time. I do have a feeling that after UK Getaway week in April, which is the furthest full week Wheel has taped so far, we'll be seeing a lot more Southern California residents.

This is turning out to be a crazy season for both Wheel and J!, and on Mr. Friedman's last season, too.
Hopefully, everything works out well.

I also don’t think contestants will be allowed to bring any guests because of this, meaning that Pat won’t ask the contestants who they have in the audience.

^ If the contestants have to travel, they might as well bring somebody along.

So it will be like the shows Vanna hosted where the only audience members are the contestants’ guests.

Most likely. And I'm sure they'll just insert audience shots from previous tapings for both shows, and Wheel will have the winner's guests wave from the stage while Pat and the winner look at empty seats.

It’s gonna be a horribly quiet time without live audiences.

Did you hear any significant differences when Vanna hosted? I sure didn’t. Wheel’s audience never reacts to anything anymore, anyway. A contestant landing on $3500 five times in a row would sound exactly the same whether the audience is full or empty.

Do you think this will also effect/affect (I don't know which one applies) people waiting on a contestant envelope?

Probably not if you already auditioned, although I do suspect they'll hold off on Wheelmobiles and final auditions outside of LA for a little while. This week, Wheel put out another Email to LA-area Wheel Watchers Club members in desperation of more local contestants.

Do you think this will also effect/affect (I don't know which one applies) Affect. Effect is a noun; the result of the the thing affecting something.
