Wow, what a performance, Christian! You certainly didn't need any luck of the Irish with your game-dominating, lightning-fast puzzle-solving skills! I could tell when you answered MULTIPLE-CHOICE QUESTIONS that I didn't want to miss a moment of this show and was almost afraid that if I blinked, I would miss something. My favorite part was at the end of the show when you were walking through your Bonus Round solve thinking process, and you were already speaking past the point of knowing the pattern _ _ E _ N had to be OCEAN while Pat was trying to rewind the conversation back to the why it had to be OCEAN. Wheel done! Enjoy your trip and well-deserved cash! Definitely one of the best episodes I've seen in quite a while.

That Bonus was also the best RSTLNE snipe since HANDPICKED APPLE. I think the difference between WAVY OCEAN and HANDPICKED APPLE was that the latter puzzle was pretty much partial reuse garbage that both Colin Donahue (and I) instantly noticed. Upon a puzzleboard search, WAVY was last used on 6/7/06 (WAVY HAIR - not solved for $30K). Plus, WAVY is a bit more generic and is filled to the brim w/ rarely called letters. Also, referring back to gameshowfandanny's comment, I thought BDFO was the best letter combo to use judging by this season alone ( tonyscv , have you updated the BR letter stats, yet?). |

Current through 3/18/20, O has slightly edged out A since the last update. F is still the most frequently-appearing non-RSTLNE consonant, then G, then D, then B and then Y.
For defaults, I still like A over O because mentally it's easier for me to plug in I or O if A isn't there (safe to ignore U), then either FGD (B or Y with a wild card) or GDB (F or Y) depending on how the puzzle looks.

The moment you solved R1 as quickly as I did, I knew you’d nail most of the night’s puzzles.
Tallie scared me in R2, but great to see her win a trip to Costa Rica. It was a bummer seeing her BANKRUPT late in the game (and lost the sparkly green wedge). And I’m so glad Emily got a Triple Toss-Up, given she attends school in my area.
And I had the BR with RSTLNE, and I’m glad the hosts let you explain your thought process for figuring out the top word, because it was the same as mine. I wish you won more than $37K, but hey, that’s a lot of money.
