For those of you who have "played it and made it", what does the used letter board look like and where exactly is it? Does it have all the letters of the alphabet and then called letters disappear? Or do only called letters appear? Also for those of you who made it on, how did you study? I know there's a mobile and playstation game and of course there's watching the show, but anything else to study? Studying word patterns, old puzzles, etc? Thanks  |

It looks like this and it is to the left of the puzzle board from the contestants' point of view. Although not shown here, the space under the vowels has special indicators like "PRIZE PUZZLE", "VOWELS GONE", and "VOWELS ONLY". During main rounds, there is a light blue circle to the left of the vowels that displays the round number.  |

They really should call it a remaining letter board. If a letter is there, you can call it.

They recycle material constantly. Playing video game versions and watching the show regularly are also recommended tactics, since they help you get a feel for pacing. Word patterns are good to know, too. Things like -ER, -IST, and -TION show up regularly, and -ING especially in What Are You Doing? S is pretty much a given if the category is a plural. |

It actually looked different in the 90's than it does now. It wasn't a screen, but two rows of light-up letters, lined up A-M and N-Z. A virtual representation of it can be seen in the Nintendo 64 game at times.
The current one also initially did not separate the vowels from the consonants, though they were still colored red. The vowels became separated starting around Season 28.

To add to Mario’s post, the vowels also had a red border around them for reference purposes and I’m pretty sure that they turned off the vowels when there were none left.

When I was practicing after my audition, I also recorded the 2 daily shows on GSN, took notes to see letter or category patterns. Yes, I watched 15-16 shows per week for 9 months! I also printed the alphabet on a piece of paper. I would practice during the games looking at it, so I was used to looking away from the puzzle board. Of course practicing with a pen as a clicker too.
