Hi all! New here. I'm currently making a video about Pat Sajak (a long documentary by internet standards, probably gonna clock in at around 45 minutes) and I'm including a segment chronicling Wheel of Fortune's history up to the point of Pat's arrival (so from Merv's conception of the idea, the pilots, through the salary dispute that ended Chuck's tenure). I mentioned the run-through tape that Merv shot pre-Shopper's Bazaar and hoped that I could find those clips (used in the Buzzr Documentary Game Changers) to include in the video. However, I've come up dry. It looks like the only clips that were on YouTube have since been taken down. If anyone has/can point me to that footage, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

Ooh, nice. While I don't have the footage, there's one thing I want to clarify: the run-through tape that Merv shot pre-Shopper's Bazaar Given that Merv calls the centerpiece "Wheel of Fortune" during the runthrough, it's not entirely clear when it was shot in relation to Bazaar. The fact Chuck doesn't use the term on Bazaar may suggest the runthrough came afterward, but that's just a guess on my part; it could've just as easily been a name (whether for the show or the centerpiece) that was shot down by Lin Bolen prior to Bazaar turning out to be the mess it was.

If you're an Amazon Prime subscriber, they have the entire Game Changers documentary available to stream online. Not going to name specific names, but there are tools for recording from there, if you know where to look.

If you're an Amazon Prime subscriber, they have the entire Game Changers documentary available to stream online. Oh wow, you're right. Can't believe I didn't think to look in the most obvious place. Thanks so much! it's not entirely clear when it was shot in relation to Bazaar. I've added a footnote in the video that touches on that uncertainty, but for the purposes of the story, I decided to go with the pre-Bazaar theory. Given the similarity to the Bazaar setup and apparently low production value, it would make more sense that this was just used to demonstrate the concept of the program. From there, Lin Bolen sees it and adds the shopping element, and that's where Bazaar originates. I don't think it's implausible that the wheel had originally been dubbed the "Wheel of Fortune" by Merv, especially given how he seemed to dislike the name "Shopper's Bazaar" (according to his autobiography). That's all just speculation, of course, but it seems more likely to me.
