Last retro recap of the week from me. This one comes at the beginning of the second week of season 18 and there's some changes regarding sound cues:
In addition to that, wheelfan82 attended the taping for all 5 shows this week. I've already posted the recap for the next episode, so refer here.
ENDLESS SUMMERAIR DATE: 9/11/00
Tossup 1: Thing
G O O D - _ Y E

Hopefully, Ginny's relatives gave her a GOOD-BYE KISS before she came here. The contestants that started this week...
Ginny Nordyke: Marshfield, MO. 3 sons, 8 grandchildren (a granddaughter's in the audience), 4 great-grandchildren (wow...). Used to bake a lot (her favorite recipe is chocolate chip cookies).
Kice Brinkman: Austin, TX. Senior at the UT-Austin. Owns a dance studio in her hometown of Caldwell (teaches ballet, tap, jazz). Reigning Miss Heart of Texas.
Mark Smith: Hanford, CA. 4th grade teacher who's gonna start grad school in the fall. Camera freak who has a good memory with numbers.
Gift Tag: CHASE-DURER (those are watches)
Round 1: On The Map
_ _ . / _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _
Ginny begins with an $800 T, but then M for miss while on the $300 neat LOSE A TURN (she thought the abbreviated word was MT.). Kice controls the rest of this round: a $2,500 S, 3 E's, a $400 N (near $550), a $600 L (almost got BANKRUPT), I, and 3 $700 R's.
S T . / L _ _ R E N _ E
R I _ E R
If you don't abbreviate the first word, you'd get a Prize Puzzle used on the 2012 video game (Montreal's located near that river); Kice locates the ST. LAWRENCE RIVER for $5,100.
Dud: M (Ginny)
Pre-Round 2 Scores:
Mark: Didn't hear from him.
Ginny: $1,000
Kice: $5,100
1st Prize Added to Wheel: Cancun from YAHOO! Travel (seems like all of the pre-R2 prizes that week came from that company & are worth $3,500)
Lean Pockets Jackpot Round: Fill in the Blank
? / _ _ _ _ _ ($5,000)
? / _ _ _ _ _ _ _
? / _ _ _ _
Kice begins with 2 T's worth $7,000 (not much of a reaction there), E, 3 $550 R's, an S for the FREE SPIN, A, but an H on $800 causes her to use her FS...but that's a waste since there's not a single C while on $300. Mark can't pick up the YAHOO! Travel wedge with L, so Ginny will call P & M pairs on $300 (near CHASE-DURNER) & $450 (almost got the YAHOO! Travel), respectively...but then D for DUD while on CHASE-DURNER. Kice spins once for the last consonant of 2 M's on the other $400...
? / _ _ N T S ($10,900)
? / P A R T N E R
? / P R _ _
...and ? MINTS, ? PARTNER, ? PROM are correct for $8,950 plus another 3 grand for saying Junior.
Duds: H & C (Kice), L (Mark), D (Ginny)
Pre-Round 3 Scores:
Mark: Nuthin
Ginny: $1,000
Kice: $17,050
---
Second Prize Added to Wheel: Palm Island in the Grenadines worth $6,880 (marked CARIBBEAN)
$10,000 Round: Occupation
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _
Mark just missed CHASE-DURNER, but still puts up 3 $300 R's. Up next is a $550 S, 2 $500 T's, 4 E's, but then N for no while on $600. Ginny picks up the CARIBBEAN trip with a P and 3 $600 C's...
S _ P E R _ _ R _ E T
C _ E C _ _ _ T
C _ E R _
...and a SUPERMARKET CHECKOUT CLECK has just awarded her $8,680 cash & Caribbean.
Dud: N (Mark)
Pre-Tossup 2 Scores:
Mark: Gooseegg Alert
Ginny: $9,680 cash & Caribbean
Kice: $17,050
---
Tossup 2: Proper Name
B I _ L
_ A H E R
Mark's off the schneid with Politically Incorrect's BILL MAHER.
Round 4: Rhyme Time (Pat said Prime Time at first)
_ _ ' _ / _
_ _ _ _ / _ _ _ _
But Mark's bad luck continues by being the first LOSE A TURN victim. Ginny says S on $550, but then that LOSE A TURN. Kice puts up a $5,000 T, 3 I's, but then an odd letter of K on $550. Mark puts up a $10,000 N pair (no reaction from the audience - boo!), A, but then P for phooey while on $300. Ginny becomes the first BANKRUPT victim of the night (near $900), so Kice will call L on $600 (near top dollar) and 2 E's.
I T ' S / A
_ I N E / L I N E
Sadly, she blows the $5,100 solve by a letter with IT'S A WINE LINE (the buzzer sounded at the missolve; Pat: That would be next door.). Mark then jumps into second place with a $9,750 solve of IT'S A FINE LINE.
Duds: K (Kice), P (Mark)
Lose a Turns: 2 (Kice's opponents)
Bankrupt: Ginny
DQ: Kice's one-letter missolve
Pre-Round 5 Scores:
Mark: $10,750
Ginny: $9,680 cash & Caribbean
Kice: $17,050
Speedup: Person
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
Final Spin: $6,000!
Ginny: N (she tried to spin the wheel at first)
Kice: R
Mark: S
Ginny: T
Kice: L
Mark: M
Ginny: A
Kice: C
Mark: P
Ginny: L (DUPE - not recognized as it)
Kice: E
Mark: D (Last Consonant - the beeps didn't sound)
_ _ T D _ _ R S M A N
Mike completes the comeback by solving OUTDOORSMAN for another $18,000! And he's jumping up and down and giving Pat a hug!
Duds: L (Kice), C (Kice), P (Mark), E (Kice)
DQ: Ginny's L repeat
Final Scores:
Mark: $28,750
Ginny: $9,680 cash & Caribbean
Kice: $17,050
Maingame Total: $55,480!
Bankrupt Trash: $550 from Ginny in R4.
I think the audience woke up once Pat made the joke regarding WINE LINE.

Bonus Round
W H E E L
Mark picks the H.
Category: Thing
RSTLNE gives him almost half (and I think this would be better for a winter-themed episode)...
S _ _
L _ _ T
CGPA are all duds and the best that he could guess is SEA LOFT, which doesn't make any sense. SKI LIFT was the answer and he just lost the cruise to Tahiti (Pat first said Itihat, which was upside down.). Then again, he can cruise to Tahiti himself as he's got $28,750.
Closing Chat: We can absorb that much changes...and Pat's thinking the floor now changed to blue.
My Rating:7 8
Well, I hoped you enjoyed those recaps. I sure did, because I'm also going to be doing it next week. However, all of those episodes recapped next week will be from the 24th season (unless otherwise noticed) and the copies that I have received for each episode is presented in widescreen HIGH-DEFINITION.
- The regular puzzle solve cue returns to the 1997 version.
- The tossup solve cue now uses the regular solve cue used during premiere week.
In addition to that, wheelfan82 attended the taping for all 5 shows this week. I've already posted the recap for the next episode, so refer here.
