KABC in Los Angeles is pre-empting Jeopardy! and Wheel tomorrow due to a Monday Night Football game featuring the Chargers. Normally when Wheel is pre-empted by MNF, the week airs on a one-day delay from Tuesday-Saturday, with no Saturday rerun that week, or the Monday episode airs overnight. This week, they're doing something oddly different. In the LA market only, Monday's episode (10/12, S38 E21, S-7251) will air on Friday 10/16. Tuesday-Thursday's episodes will air on the proper days. Friday's episode (S38 E25, S-7255) will air Saturday at 9:30 PM Pacific, and there will be no Season 37 rerun. This was confirmed by a contestant on Monday's episode via Instagram. Also a reminder that if NBA Finals needs a Game 7, Tuesday's episode will air at 10:30 PM instead of 7:30. Thursday's episode will also air at that time due to the Second Presidential Debate. Wednesday is the only episode next week that LA will definitely get at the regular time on the proper day. (EDIT: Lakers won, so no more NBA, and this week's debate was cancelled) In visual terms: Very interesting that they're moving it this way instead of the usual Tue-Sat method. I wonder if this is because Monday's episode is the most noteworthy of the week, so they want to put it on a day where it's not forced to air at a later time, and/or because Friday's episode is particularly bad so they want to push it to Saturday post-College Football where it will surely have less viewers than if it aired Friday at 7:30. Jeopardy! will simply air on a one-day delay from Tuesday-Saturday due to its continuity, of course.

One can only hope it’s a really good episode, with, dare I say, a big bonus round win? Probably just wishful thinking...

I'd keep my eyes peeled if they're going to do the same for 10/26 and 11/23.

^ As of 10/11, the Wheel page on Zap2It has Thu 10/22 at 10:30 because of another debate, no rerun for Sat 10/24, and Mon 10/26 at the normal time and day. Same for J!

I'd keep my eyes peeled if they're going to do the same for 10/26 and 11/23. Looks like they will. Contestant Craig Watkinson from the 10/26 episode says that KABC will not air it until Saturday 10/31 at 9:30, which probably means it's not a notable game. http://instagr.am/p/CGiTIznp7Rr Currently, Zap2It has KABC's airings of Wheel's Halloween Week listed incorrectly. Monday's episode is completely absent, and Friday's episode is listed for both Friday and Saturday. This has happened before when KABC delayed episodes. The 10/26 episode of Jeopardy! is still listed at the normal time (7:30-8:15 PM is listed as "TBA", which is probably the latter portion of the MNF game), but the week's Friday episode is also listed for both Friday and Saturday. No previous season rerun is listed for either show that week (nor this week, although no weekday shows are pre-empted except for Thursday because of the debate). Surely J! will just air one day behind the other markets, but it's interesting that KABC wants Wheel to be mostly consistent with the rest of the country, since they can get away with mixing up the order of the episodes. Although in this case, I imagine Friday's episode's closing will have comments from Pat or Vanna about Halloween being "tomorrow", so I can see them wanting to make sure Friday airs on Friday. In the past, Wheel would air Tue-Sat one day behind, or they would just skip the episode altogether and still air a rerun on Saturday. It looks like Sony is working directly with KABC in order to make sure every episode of both shows airs at a fair time slot and in its entirety. I recall past instances where Wheel would not be made up on sports pre-emptions even if they featured LA contestants. I vividly remember a contestant from the Season 35 finale week who could not watch her episode until a summer rerun of it aired, because the original airing was pre-empted by NBA Finals, and J! was made up while Wheel was not. They're also making sure no Saturday episodes (new or rerun) get pre-empted. Last season, Weekend J!/Wheel were immediately after College Football, so J! would often get cut off or skipped (including once when they aired a delayed Friday ep on a MNF week), and sometimes Wheel too. And for the first few weeks of the 2018-19 season, they didn't air Weekend J! or Wheel at all. Hopefully, they will be just as good with scheduling the Election Day, Christmas Day, and NFL Draft episodes.

They fixed the listings. Monday's ep is listed for Saturday now. Also, it looks like Tue-Fri of Election Day week will be slid to Wed-Sat on KABC. Note that this will not be a national move like it was in 2016, at least not yet.

Hey guys, I'm Brad, first time poster here. Some of you game show fans might remember my olllllllld game show website Game Show Central from the 1990s and 2000s. I had the amazing fortune of being a contestant on Wheel this season. This posting speaks to me as I will be one of the contestants on the Monday episode (S38 E36) of Spa Getaway week. Curiously this was the second episode taped that day and I had assumed I would be hunting down my episode through the Election Day preemption list, but through a stroke of luck they moved my show to Monday, which means it should hopefully be seen in a normal pre-apocalypse time slot. Glad to join the board and connect with all you big Wheel fans! Brad

Oh wow, loved your Wheel of Fortune timeline and the Price is Right pricing game guide on your site back in the day Brad. Congrats on getting to be a contestant and excellent your episode will air on Monday!

Thanks guys! At this point it looks like the Tuesday episode (S38 E37) will be skipped in many cities altogether. I feel bad for my new friends from my tape date who will not be seen everywhere. Luckily they were all from LA so they should see their episode on Wednesday (election results willing).

^ Yep. No sign of 11/3 airing here in the NYC area, but I plan to call the station tomorrow and confirm. Usually they move the episode to a subchannel or do what LA does and slide the rest of the week a day behind (though during football season, Saturday episodes air at 5:30 AM). I know of at least one person here who will be able to capture it since his market confirmed it will move to a sister station for the day, so if they need a copy and I can't make one, he'll be able to.
I'll be posting the full list in the pre-emptions thread over the weekend, plus I plan to stream a special morning airing of the episode online that day. More info on that soon.

Just got off the phone with WABC's programming director and he confirmed that Tuesday's Wheel is moving to the Localish subchannel and Wed-Sat's episode will air on their proper days. If you know anyone from that episode who will need a copy, let me know, now that I know I will be able to make one.

Dumb question (particularly where it won't affect me), but do pre-emptions like these affect contestants' ability to collect their winnings?

^ No. Because since Wheel is syndicated, the episode always airs somewhere. KABC is doing an excellent job at making sure all first-run episodes this season of both Wheel and J! are airing uninterrupted, even if not on the "right" days.

Just like with Halloween Week, next Monday's episode is being delayed to Saturday on KABC. Tue-Fri will air on the proper days, which is probably for the best since I'm sure Thursday's episode will feature several Thanksgiving references.

Just wanted to point this out. Whenever Jeopardy! and Wheel get slid because of MNF, KABC's airing of Monday episodes of J! on Tuesday add a special graphic during the interviews alerting viewers of the delay. There is no such graphic when Wheel airs, despite Pat and Vanna filming a special promo that KABC posted on Twitter when the first MNF pre-emption this season happened. At least KABC's Twitter continues to promote new episodes that air on Saturday at 9:30.
