Other than misspellings, what are some cases you have seen where a puzzle had an element to it that was completely incorrect?
October 1983 (Rick/Joan/Cecelia): ELEMENTARY MY DEAR WATSON (this phrase never occurs in any Sherlock Holmes story)
11/28/91: GAMES PEOPLE PLAY IT AGAIN SAM (the line from Casablanca is not "Play it again, Sam", but rather "Play it once, Sam, for old times' sake" and "Play it, Sam. Play 'As Time Goes By'.")
1/1/96: ME TARZAN YOU JANE FONDA (the line "Me Tarzan, you Jane" does not occur in any adaptation of Tarzan)
9/26/97: THE NEAT NEW SPAGHETTI YOU CAN EAT WITH A SPOON (all copies of Spaghetti-O's ads I can find say "neat round spaghetti")
3/7/17: HAWAII'S GARDEN ISLAND and 2/27/18: EXPLORING THE GARDEN ISLAND (Kauai is the "Garden Isle")
11/28/19: NATURAL RESERVOIR (a reservoir is, by definition, a man-made body of water; the only uses I can find of the term "natural reservoir" are in the field of disease studies)
Given the show's long history, I wouldn't be surprised if some other non-quote like "Beam me up, Scotty" has made it into a puzzle at some point.

What’s the context to the ELEMENTARY puzzle? If it’s linked to Sherlock Holmes and/or Doyle? That’s wrong, but it’s a Mandela effect quote with its earliest known origins linked to PG Wodehouse in his 1915 work PSmith, Journalist.

^If you take "Popsicle" as a brand name, then yes, Popsicle brand sells Fudgsicles. However, if you treat "popsicle" as a generic way of referring to a frozen ice pop, like how you would put a band-aid on something and not necessarily care if it was made by Johnson + Johnson, then you can describe it as a frozen ice pop made of fudge.

Would this count?
On 3/5/98, one puzzle was RICH MILK CHOCOLATE & VELVETY NOUGAT. It was followed by a trivia question asking for which candy bar is described that way, and they accepted 3 Musketeers as the answer.
I have found ZERO proof of 3 Musketeers ever using this as an advertising phrase. Every 1990s ad I found uses some variant of "big on chocolate, not on fat", and a Google search for "velvety nougat" + "3 Musketeers" turned up zero results. I've also asked on Facebook, and everyone has either said they've never heard it either, or they only think they've heard of it and aren't sure if they're just experiencing the Mandela effect.
Should I mark this as an erratum?

Well, it is made of chocolate and nougat. Just seems like some 2010's-style puzzle fluffing to me. True, but there are multiple candy bars made out of chocolate and nougat. There's nothing explicitly pinning it to 3 Musketeers over literally any other nougat candy bar. |
