We know how the remainder of Season 37 is going to play out. We'll still have rotating guest hosts, with FOX Sports play-by-play announcer Joe Buck to host the last week of this season. The Tournament of Champions will be held this month, with 2017 ToC winner Buzzy Cohen guest hosting those two weeks. I don't think we will have a College Championship, Teen Tournament, or Teacher's Tournament this season because of COVID restrictions (it's very likely that taping for this season already wrapped up sometime last month).
That being said, let's discuss the changes we know will take effect as well as possible other changes for Season 38.
Here's what we know:
• there will be a new permanent host • the opening graphics will change as they always do every season, unless TBTP decide to reuse this season's title card next season (like they did this year on Wheel – reusing last season's title card for this season).
Possible changes:
• With a new permanent host, the Jeopardy! music packaged ought to be refreshed. The current one has aged well, but I think it's time to change the theme and Think! music to signal the start of a new era. And per Jeopardy! tradition, the music package gets refreshed every 11-13 years. • Studio audiences are permitted, albeit in phases. Phase one may be only allowing contestants from a particular taping day to be in the audience. And then allowing the general public to attend a taping. • A new set is entirely out of the question for now. Despite the current set debuted in Season 30, it was modified for COVID-19 health measures this season. So I see it being used at least one more season. The Ken Jennings set was modified for HD back in 2006, and it continued to be used the following two seasons before it was replaced by the CES set in 2009. • Teen Tournament, College Championship, and Teachers Tournament return after being put on hiatus because of the pandemic. • Sports Jeopardy music package is used for the Teen Tournament, or a new music package is composed for that event. • a special tournament bringing back James Holzhauer and 14 other Trebek-era champions (all of whom appeared on the show between Ken's original run and the 2019 ToC), except Buzzy Cohen because is guest hosting this year's ToC. But perhaps save this tournament for Season 40. Even though we'll be in a new era, it would be nice to see James being brought back for special tournaments, much like how Ken and Brad were during the Trebek era.

Also, bringing back Trebek-era champions would be a mistake and a massive disservice to the new host. Give the viewing audience time to get used to the new guy and move forward rather than digging up the past. Price did this right.
Speaking of new host, keeping audiences away might not be a bad idea... having audiences might only serve to cause the new host to become nervous.

That's why I mentioned maybe not holding these special tournaments next season, but better to have one during Season 40 (that will be the next milestone season). In the most recent milestone seasons, there was at least one special event bringing back former contestants: - Season 25: Kids Week Reunion - Season 30: Battle of the Decades - Season 35: The All-Star Games

I think it's much more likely they keep the next all star player tournament for season 40. I don't really see any major changes set, music, or otherwise since the next season will be about ushering in the new permanent host.

I think it's much more likely they keep the next all star player tournament for season 40. I don't really see any major changes set, music, or otherwise since the next season will be about ushering in the new permanent host. When Drew Carey succeeded Bob Barker as host of The Price is Right, the set & music package were changed. Basically speaking, the main theme, the "come on down" cue, the losing horns, and the music cue that plays after a contestant lands on $1 during the showcase showdown, carried over from the Bob Barker Era; but they were re-recorded and re-orchestrated with added percussion instruments. But because the current set underwent slight modifications this season (despite basically being the same set used since Season 30), I definitely see it remaining in use for at least for one more season. However, I think it's time to refresh the music package, now that we're getting a new host. After all, introducing a new music package while continuing to use the same set is nothing new. The current theme and think music were introduced during Season 25, and the Ken Jennings set was still in use at the time.

Yes that's true, but from what I've read the set changes were planned regardless of Bob retiring to make the set more HD friendly.

I think it's much more likely they keep the next all star player tournament for season 40. And who knows if TPTB will use the same format they used for the all-star tournament that took place in Season 35, or if they'll do another Million Dollar Master's Tournament during S40.

I didn't really mean specifically the format they used in season 35, I just meant a tournament with memorable contestants no matter what the format is.

Other possible changes I'd like to see for Jeopardy! Season 38.
• With COVID-19 restrictions easing around the country, I'd like to see Power Players Week be held at DAR Constitution Hall in May 2022 (the midterm elections are next year). Before Season 35 wrapped up, I originally anticipated there would be another PPW in Season 36 because we had one in Season 28 and again in Season 32; because of that, I figured that holding a PPW during a presidential election year was going to be a Jeopardy! tradition. But because of COVID, there was no PPW last season.

Here's one, posted by the same person who posted the Wheel set last week. Looks like J! will have the same logo for two consecutive seasons for the first time in a really long time, but they added some vertical spotlights to the set walls.

Vertical spotlights are nice, but disappointed they’re using the same logo.

Looks nice. Little surprised there's not more of a set change.

Looks like change for the sake of change. In my opinion, it's a missed opportunity for a totally new look in an era of transition.
Whatever the case, thanks for sharing the photo with us Rob.

After only one taping day, Mike has stepped down as host. Season 38 will continue to use guest hosts until another permanent host is decided. Not clear if Mike is also stepping down as EP of J! and Wheel.
Jeez, what a sh*tshow this has become.
