Due to NYC Mayoral debate, WABC-TV is pushing all of this weeks episodes to the next day. Tonight WABC-TV aired the 6/3/21 episode. On that episode in the closing credits I saw Patrick O’Brien is the director. I wonder if he’s been promoted to Director of Wheel of Fortune.

Good catch. On most episodes, Robert Ennis is credited as Director (and still is on the website), and Patrick O'Brien as Associate Director. The June 3 episode, as well as the May 31 episode, were filmed on the set of California Coast. That set's tapings got split across two days. California Coast was supposed to tape the usual six episodes on 2/25. However, the taping was cut short after the second show (Tuesday 4/20) due to someone in the studio testing positive for COVID. The next day, 2/26, they taped the remaining three episodes of California Coast (Wed-Fri 4/21-23) and two America's Game episodes, the first of which aired Monday 5/31. If you go back to the 4/20 and 4/21 episodes, you'll notice that Vanna's hairstyle is a bit different in the latter episode. In all, seven episodes were taped on the California Coast set: two on one day, and five on another day. Checking the credits for California Coast episodes, Robert Ennis is credited as Director on the April 19 and 20 episodes, but Patrick O'Brien is credited as Director on April 21-23 and the two America's Game episodes. This means Robert Ennis was absent on the second day of California Coast tapings. Robert Ennis is Director for the other three episodes this week, and all episodes taped after the second day of California Coast tapings. |
