Any insights on what changes to expect for the upcoming season? It would be odd if absolutely no player stories have leaked since the show began taping (gameplay outcome spoiler-free, of course).

I have literally only seen one hint of tapings: one of Maggie Sajak's stylists posted an Instagram story outside the studio back on July 23. That, and my original source who was set to have taped on July 22 or 23 confirmed it did happen, but hasn't said any more.
Wheel's staff is being very tight-lipped now. They used to post set pics on their social media all willy-nilly.

^ Thanks Mario. Yeah, usually around this time we hear a few peeps about what to expect so I figured it was a little too quiet. No Wheel related Instagram pics location tagged at SPS is atypical for this time of the year. I wonder why the circumstances gave changed.

That's a bummer because I'm curious if the CWoF will carry into the syndicated series, and if there's a new title card for S39.

I hope this means my mom may get to go on the show! We were supposed to go on as a team in 2019, but they separated us and my mom never got called. She checked before covid and they said she was still a contestant but now obviously she's wayyyyyy past the 18 month time frame to be called upon. She's pretty much given up all hope at this point

^ They know what they're doing, I'm sure. There's a big backlog of people outside the "safe region" who still need their turn. Hers will come.

Even though the show has opened up to people outside of LA and surrounding areas, it's pretty limited. Among the 15 contestants of the first week of Season 39, 8 media markets were represented, which isn't bad considering that all of Season 38 only had contestants from a total of 10 markets. Of the 8 markets represented in Season 39 Week 1, 4 of them were markets that were "eligible" for Season 38, including LA. Every episode this week had two contestants from California (including non-LA markets), but no more than one contestant from another state. The only non-California-based markets that were "eligible" in Season 38 were Phoenix and Tucson, Arizona and Las Vegas, Nevada. I imagine applicants from Yuma, AZ would have been eligible since it's closer to LA than Phoenix and Tucson, but I couldn't find anyone from that market in S38. Arizona and Nevada haven't been repped yet in S39, but a Phoenix contestant is confirmed for Week 3. Since the non-LA contestants are limited, I imagine they are not doing Hometown Howdies for them; WABC aired the regular promo for Friday even though Jim was local. Even pre-COVID, LA contestants did not film Hometown Howdies because KABC did not air them. Here is the breakdown of how many contestants this week were from which market. Emphasis on "market" since we had two New Jerseyans, but both were from the upper portion of the state served by WABC, rather than the lower portion served by WPVI. Markets in green were also repped in S38. Los Angeles, CA (KABC): 6San Francisco, CA (KGO): 2New York, NY (WABC): 2 Bakersfield, CA (KBAK): 1 Sacramento, CA (KXTV): 1Little Rock, AR (KATV): 1 Atlanta, GA (WXIA): 1 Nashville, TN (WKRN): 1 Map: i.imgur.com/2yOGBd7.pngLast Tuesday's episode was the first time since the S37 finale (taped March 13, 2020) that no contestants were from the LA market. The last episode to date to not have any contestants from anywhere in California was September 2, 2020 (taped February 27). Bottom line: The backlog of non-SoCal people isn't going to decrease as fast as some might be hoping. If you're in or near Southern California, your odds are still better than ever. LA people have always had an advantage, however, since two LA people are required to serve as alternates at every taping, with a guaranteed slot at a future taping.
