Premiere
Now it's time for me to cover season 23. Before you go ahead and say "You already started on that season!", let me tell you that Shawn Anton's episode was just a sneak peek of what to come for this season (and also that episode was not on Lucas' playlist). Aside from the things genius2751 mentioned in the premiere, here are some other gameplay elements changed from last season...
With that said, let's begin...
We start with the jetpack lady.
EPISODE #4292: WHEEL AROUND THE WORLD
Airdate: 9/13/05
Go!
"Wheel of Fortune" is the NAME OF THE GAME and Dave scores first.
Tuesday's Trio:
Dave Sandler: San Diego, CA. 4th/5th grade teacher at Pacific Beach Elementary (and Teacher of the Year) who's married to Mel with 2 kids.
Stephanie Diamond: Little Rock, AR. Receptionist who visited 9 countries in 7 years (also lived in Western Europe for 2 years; she wants to go to Spain, but there's no trips to that country on this episode unfortunately).
Michelle Margitich: Chicago, IL. University of Illinois senior studying finance (she wants to get a job in real estate).
Go!
Previously used as a bonus puzzle on 12/23/02 (and was solved for a Mazda Miata), Dave spots a MOCKINGBIRD to triple up.
FEATURED PRIZE: trip to the Portman Ritz-Carlton Shanghai + All Nippon Airways airfare (marked WHEEL AROUND THE WORLD/WATW all week) worth $8,845
TUES/THURS GIFT TAGS: SWAROVSKI, Spafinder
I can't say WE'RE OFF TO A FLYING START because all Dave wins is the upgraded house minimum.
BANKRUPTS: 2 (non-Stephanies)
DQ: Stephanie's N repeat
The operators forgot the house minimum rule.
JACKPOT ROUND
Pat can't contain himself - this one's the...
PRIZE PUZZLE!
Dave IDs "BEIN' GREEN" BY KERMIT THE FROG for a trip to somewhere green...not Hawaii...but rather IRELAND (Marriott Druids Glenn Hotel & Country Club, Aer Lingus) worth $5,572.
DUD: S (Stephanie)
BANKRUPT: Michelle
LEFT BEHIND IN POT: $10,350
MYSTERY ROUND
Stephanie decided to decline on the flip at first, but flipped anyway thanks to the audience urging her to do it. Too bad for the LOSE A TURN.
Michelle has a serving of CHOPPED TOMATO AND ONION SALAD.
DUD: R (Dave)
LOSE A TURN: Stephanie
BANKRUPT: Michelle
Go!
Michelle solves GRASS STAINS to get a bit closer to the leader.
DING DING! DING DING!
FINAL SPIN: $6,000!
Anybody's game, now!
Michelle: 3 T's ($18,000)
Dave: S
Stephanie: 2 N's ($12,000)
Michelle: 3 C's ($36,000)
Dave: 2 R's ($12,000)
Dave pinpoints HARTFORD, CONNECTICUT. Too bad for Michelle (she had the answer a second too late)...
DUD: S (Dave)
FINAL SCORES
I feel so bad for Stephanie...
WINNINGS SO FAR: $30,972
BANKRUPT TRASH: $3,950
For the early parts of this season, we do see some clips of past BR wins before the final segment (one of the contestants shown was Leah from 5/17/04).
BONUS ROUND:
If Dave wins a 2005 Chevy Trailblazer LS or a 2005 BMW Z4, a random Wheel Watchers Club member could also win one as well.
Wife Mel and mom Sandy watch Dave spin to the W.
RSTLNE gives three:
Contestant wipe is a globe.
CDMO gives just the vowel...
...and FALL DOWN and DOLL TOWN won't cut it. Ironically, it was BALL GOWN...
...and he doesn't win the $30,000. That sends him packing with $22,772 in cash & trip.
We see some clips of the Vietnamese version of this show in the end ("Lucky Hat").
- The house minimum for solving a puzzle is now $1,000 while contestants who get gooseegged get that amount as well. For team episodes, it's $2,000 in each scenario.
- The flashing indicators on the scoreboards are now fixed, so now it's easier to determine who rung in on a Toss-Up or who's turn is it during the Speed-Up.
- The prize wedge is moved to the first round. All cardboard is removed by the end of the third round (but there are some exemptions.
- Piggybacking from the last note, there is now a commercial break after the first round. The one after the Bonus Round is gone (and replaced with a short promotional plug).
- The second BANKRUPT stays on the wheel for Round 4 (whether it begins with the Final Spin or not).
- The MYSTERY prize from here on out is $10,000 cash (most of the time; the designs for the wedged are used until the end of S31 albeit with a few minor tweaks here and there). I'll only explain the Mystery prize if it's sponsored or something else from the usual cash (but only if no shows from that week are recapped or the Mystery prize wasn't specified on those recapped episodes from that week).
- Occasionally, there would be a third gift tag on the $400 between penalties.
- Thanks to the Prize Puzzle happening daily, trivia categories begin occurring with decreasing frequency (once in a taping day if they do have any; it would slowly be gone for good starting in the back half of S25).
With that said, let's begin...
