In this picture of an upcoming contestant, the Wheel appears to be set up for Round 1 (but not in its usual starting position), and Free Play is not on the Wheel; it is the new yellow $X50 (likely $850) seen in the Season 39 promo airing this week. The Prize Wedge and Million Dollar Wedge are still present; the Gift Tag and Wild Card are out of view.

Unless they restyled the Free Play wedge and moved its location, this certainly may end the era of saved turns. Although I like Free Play, if there was one problem I can think of that may have plagued it, it's that it had a lot of rules. Most other elements that have been used weren't as complex.

Maybe it’s to avoid a player taking continuous turns on Free Play, which is why it was retired. It was extremely unlikely to have happened during its tenure, but after giving it plenty of thought, I understand why Sony had to do so.
