In the final segment, Pat says that the set looks terrific. We also get to see Jim Thornton's face more often...if that means anything. What will definitely mean something is that the classic theme song (Changing Keys) has returned, and Pat points out that nobody really knew the song from the last few years, but the current one is easy to remember.

Not unheard of. I remember it happening on one of the Portland episodes a few years back, and I think the Wiki documents a few more scattered instances.

I think the new set and theme are perfectly fine so far. Also good to see a decent batch of contestants so far this week.

Probably the overhead cam didn't catch it, or they had to do a reshoot for something, and Mike didn't want to bother digging through other episodes or fabricating an overhead shot.

It was likely the pink $600.

$850 > WILD/$500: 10 wedges clockwise
WILD/$500 > $600: 11 wedges clockwise
$600 > $500: 9 wedges clockwise

Going from WILD/$500 to the red $600 would have been only 8 wedges clockwise, and from there to the $500 would have been directly across, 12 wedges.

I wonder if the short Pat/Vanna monologue at the start of the show is here to stay. I assumed it was only like that yesterday for the season premiere, but I think it's a nice touch and gives a bit of extra character to the show.

Ooh...so close on that last name, mechamind . Andynwof is a really great site for finding the contestant names and hometowns. jakemathis4520 relied on that site for a good chunk of the S38 recaps he did the past summer.

I believe all Wheel Prizes this week come from Road Scholar (and I'll see if it's worth the same value tomorrow). Interesting how the PP trip is $300 less from last season, though.

Also, about the $600 hit not shown. Andynwof said that it was the red $600, but the pink $600 seemed reasonable as well. And yeah, I do have a notion that Crosswords might be gone for good.

BR: It was either that answer or BLACK BOXERS. Good thing her choices lead to a win!

This episode seems like a step down from the previous one, but it's still an enjoyable experience all the way through. And we still don't have anything in the Bankrupt Trash yet...so, 7/10.

Pumped to give out my first recap of this new season tomorrow!

Thanks for the correction on the recap. One thing, though - if I do make a mistake with the contestant interviews, I would prefer that the most we do is acknowledge that a mistake was made without going into specifics. Other than that, it's all good. - Mechamind

I'm a day late, but some thoughts on the new format.

1. Was excited when I heard that Changing Keys was returning, not as much when I found out it sounds like it was completely programmed on a Casio. The previous theme, despite being generic is actually a lot better because it is an actual band playing.

2. Free play gone? Makes no sense.

3. I am not one to normally complain about LEDs, but they are really beginning to stand out because they are EVERYWHERE. It reminds me of the star wars prequels where everything was so special effects happy that it all looked plastic. In fact, the traditional wheel now looks so out of place that it feels like Im watching two different shows spliced together. If they were going to do vintage music, why not retroize (is that a word?) the stage a bit too? Or at least change it so it doesn't feel like I'm watching a Superbowl halftime show.

4. Mike Richards was a good EP. Too bad he turned out to be a ghoul and a creep.

Outside of that, it's WOF, and it's always going to be fun to watch.

This was an OK follow-up to the premiere.

I no-lettered R2 because it was my idea for a puzzle. Given Andre’s quick work in that round, I thought we would’ve had extra time before the Final Spin. Although I figured he would fall for the HOMEWORK trap in TTU1, he impressed me with his solve in R4. Good thing the light bulb went off for Lyndsey, because she scared me a bit in R3.

And since you learn something new every day, it’s awesome to see an EAST teacher on Wheel (I’ve never heard of the subject until now).

I got the BR with RSTLNE though I initially thought it was BLACK. Good thing Lyndsey solved that puzzle quickly.

My rating: 7
