S20, EPISODE #3770: CORNUCOPIA WEEK
Airdate: 11/29/02
Setting: Euro Tour (October 7-11)
Go!
Paul eats up some BELGIAN WAFFLES.
Wrapping up November:
Paul Chin: Ramsey, NJ (but born in a moving taxi in Brooklyn). Multimedia developer who's married 4.5 years to Noreen (in audience).
Robin Stacy: Chesterfield, VA. Randolph-Macon College senior studying English who's also an active sorority member of Kappa Alpha Theta. She plans to go into marketing.
Steve Amato: Kent, OH. Retired from refrigeration, air conditioning and service with a local union who's married 42 years (they met on an elevator) with 2 kids and 3 grandkids. He enjoys going to Vegas on occasion.
Go!
Paul's 2-for-2 with WALKIE-TALKIE.
GIFT TAG: BED BATH & BEYOND
Paul says NOBEL PRIZE WINNER...but pronounces the first word as "Noble", so it doesn't fly with the judges.
Robin solves NOBEL PRIZE WINNER with the correct pronunciation.
DUD: T (Robin)
LOSE A TURN: Paul)
BANKRUPT: Steve
DQ: Paul's blown solve
PRIZE ADDED TO WHEEL: Cross Country International walking vacation in IRELAND ($5,490)
JACKPOT ROUND
THERE'S ONLY ONE WAY TO FIND OUT if Steve wins the entire thing after making the house minimum solve for this round.
DUDS: G (Paul), K (Robin)
LOSE A TURN: Paul
BANKRUPTS: 2 (non-Pauls)
LEFT BEHIND IN POT: $13,250
I thought Steve was a gambler...
MYSTERY ROUND
BEHIND THE WEDGE: Kia Spectra GS ($11,890)
Robin solves JURY DUTY-FREE SHOPPING.
AIRED DUD: L (Paul)
AIRED BANKRUPT: Steve
Go!
Steve could only say the first three words while Robin's HAPPY AS A CLAM about taking the lead.
DING DING! DING DING!
Wait a minute, Robin's already spun!
We good? Good.
FINAL SPIN: $1,400
Robin: R ($1,700)
Steve: L ($1,400)
Steve says ITALIAN RIVIERA and ITALIAN SPAGHETTI (?!).
Paul: 2 N's ($2,800)
Robin: M
Steve: S ($2,800)
ITALIAN CANNOLIS, Steve? Give me a break.
Paul: D ($4,200)
Paul beats the buzzer with ITALIAN VINEYARDS and that's good enough for Bonus Land.
DUD: M (Robin)
DQs: all 3 of Steve's missolves
BTW, they should've used the plural version of the category.
FINAL SCORES
WINNINGS SO FAR: $13,650
BANKRUPT TRASH: $1,350
BONUS ROUND
VEHICLES: Volvo S40 ($25K+), Mercedes ML320 ($42K+)
SPACE SPUN: O in BONUS
RSTLNE gives two:
DGCO is limited...
He's stuck on MUG (BEER MUG was one of his guesses), so Paul won't give Pat a big BEAR HUG on winning another $25,000. However, he was one space away from ultimate heartbreak - the $100,000 was at the N of the same word.
PAUL'S FINAL TOTAL: $7,200 (all cash)
A bear hug is basically a stronger version of a regular hug.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: Yikes was this one a trainwreck! Between the mispronunciation in R1, the baffling duds in R2, the car being lost in R3 and those missolves in R4, this is a 2/10 episode. Had Paul had one less bite of breakfast, this would've been a complete disaster and an easy 1.
