Note: First my desktop computer almost blacks out permanently, then I get a message that my dad is in the hospital for a few days after a head injury (likely from the rearview mirror of a pickup truck), so I am feeling a little down right now. There will still be a recap as usual, and I do have a laptop as a backup device. However, if anything changes in the future, I might need a break from recapping.

Two things stand out this episode, neither of which are gameplay-related.

Jim's podium is now on stage by the board. It looks a lot better here, and it makes it less obvious that the show's audience seating is empty. Maybe this move means full audiences may come back soon.

Also, Vanna wore her hair up for the first time since I'm guessing the early 2000's. I have it on good authority that she eventually stopped doing that because Harry Friedman didn't like her hair up.

There's been at minimum one LGBT contestant per week on the show for well over a decade now.

Ruth definitely made a breakthrough in solving that puzzle to win the bonus round! I worried she might not have had enough help, but turns out she knew it right away.

Great game by Ruth tonight. I correctly predicted TTU3 before it was revealed. That was also an amazing BR solve. I got that puzzle right. Had a feeling she wouldn't but she did. Thanks to my affiliate messing up only for the first 5 minutes I only saw Round 2 onward. Had to watch the first 2 Toss Ups and Round 1 through YouTube.

INTERVIEWS: Not the first time I've seen a gay contestant on this show. I first saw it in mid-S36 and it grew more rampant the following season.

R2: Seems like Pat rushed through on the Mystery Round and jumped into the category before the overhead shot was finished (which is why that part needs to be cut out). Cool crossword clue. Gave me a good laugh. Too bad for the $10K MW loss.

TTUs: Yeah, I think most of us precalled JELLY BEANS as the final puzzle.

R4: Nice to finally have extra time again. Thought that Steve got it when the bells rang, but it wasn't meant to be...

BR: I expected the VW Taos to pop up on this show sometime soon, but I'm kinda surprised they chose that week to have it be the featured car (when I think a Ford Escape or a Ford Explorer would be more logical). I had it off RSTLNE and while my YT feed spoiled the outcome, that was a nice solve from Ruth!

7/10 to start off this week. The unclaimed Seattle trip was to The Maxwell Hotel by Staypineapple.

PS: Prayers on a safe and fast recovery for your dad. Car accidents are no joke.

So the contestants this week are from the metro areas being featured, but the trips aren’t. Interesting!

Not much to say about the front game, but Ruth did a good job. Melanio, on the other hand, had an interesting introduction.

I no-lettered TU1, got R4 with just the E’s, and nailed the BR with RSTLNE. I wasn’t expecting Ruth to instantly solve the last puzzle with the limited help she got from her combo, but she did. Nice!

My rating: 7

Also, my thoughts are with your dad, Mechamind.
