Can you figure out this puzzle?
S17, EPISODE #3183: WINTER SPORTS
Airdate: 12/1/99
If y'all thought that the answer was MUNICH like me (Pat wondered if that was the answer too; he consulted Harry Friedman for the proper spelling of that city), you'd be dead wrong - it's VENICE.
Let's meet our midweek panel:
Julie (last name not given): Greensboro, NC. Manager of a fine dining restaurant whohas 4 degrees (biology, chemistry, nutrition and food service management; she chose the last one). She also became the World Strut Champion at age 6 (baton twirling, there's 3 sections).
Andrew Heinz Jr.: Alpharetta, GA. Electrical engineer who's married to Felicia with an 11-month-old Rottweiler named Zion.
Kristian Troka (male): San Diego. 2nd year law student at the University of San Diego who plays lacrosse (he picked it up in the Bay Area) and proposed to Corby a few months ago.
Pat told Julie to spell "Munich" to prove that it was a valid guess for that Preview Puzzle.
Before Julie spun, she (and Pat) gave out a fake laugh.
ANYTHING'S POSSIBLE on this show and Julie's won her first bit of money.
DUDS: R (Julie), C (Andrew)
BANKRUPT: Kristian
1ST PRIZE ADDED TO WHEEL: a $2,500 IKEA spree (marked Shopping)
"Boy, any more letters and we'd have to borrow the Jeopardy! board."
Andrew solves WITH A QUCK QUCK HERE AND A QUCK QUACK THERE. Could he be successful turning the 1 into a 4...
Also the title of a Nickelodeon film, Andrew blanks out on BARNYARD.
DUDS: S (Kristian), M (Julie), P (Kristian), L (Julie)
LOSE A TURN: Andrew
BANKRUPT: Andrew
2ND PRIZE ADDED TO WHEEL: a week's vacation at the Resort at Squaw Creek (incl. rental car, lift tickets and lunch at High Camp; marked Squaw Valley), $6,042
JACKPOT ROUND
Apparently, Pat thinks Vanna can model a sweater much better than him...
Kristian solves FIRST DOWN AND TEN COMMANDMENTS.
DUD: H (Kristian)
BANKRUPTS: 2 (others)
LEFT BEHIND IN POT: $8,250
...wait. Where did all of our time go? Anyway, it's time for Pat to spin and we pay out $1,600 per consonant from here on out.
Those are some STAGGERING STATISTICS from Andrew even without top dollar help and he's become the big winner!
DUDS: H (Kristian), K (Andrew), D (Kristian)
FINAL SCORES
WINNINGS SO FAR: $19,850
BANKRUPT TRASH: $10,892
BONUS ROUND
Yes, Pat. Andrew's extremely happy about his outcome.
LETTER PICKED: W
RSTLNE gives a third:
I think the last two letters from BDHI did it to him...
Just like that, Andrew solves WEIGHT to win...the trip to Aspen (cross-country ski trek, priv. ski lessons & snowmobile training, RPMC spa treatment)! His wife comes over to celebrate.
ANDREW'S FINAL TOTAL: $33,900 ($14,000 plus the Aspen vacation)
Did you know that a zipper makes different sounds going up and down? Also, Vanna tried to zip down Pat's trousers - not so fast, ma'am!
OVERALL THOUGHTS: This seemed like yet another low-scoring maingame, but nice job by Andrew racking up a five-figure cash amount in R4 without the help of top dollar (and also winning the Bonus Round)! A light 7/10 for this one.
