The front game was OK until Eric tightened up the match by sweeping the Triple Toss-Ups. (Jonathan still could’ve made a comeback in the Final Spin.) All three contestants were fun to watch!

I no-lettered SCULPTURE in R2, but until I saw the last two Triple Toss-Ups, I thought the category should’ve been TITLE.

I RSTLNE’d the BR like Eric did, and his car win is well-deserved. And two perfect letter combos in a row?!

My rating: 7

Oh, and happy 40th anniversary, Pat!

Headache's gone, so now...

I was hoping we'd have some at least one themed Toss-Up to hint at Pat's 40th. At least we didn't have a triple stumper. That hasn't happened since early 2020, I think.

As for the main game, I was thinking about how Pat's first show was a bit rough, especially the first round, and an easier bonus puzzle was missed...though it was funny to see one contestant avoid the hot tub in the shopping segment.

Today's main game was also a bit rough, but the Speed-Up had a good payoff, ironically one of two puzzles I couldn't get. Speaking of puzzles I couldn't get, I thought the second Triple Toss-Up would be THE SOUND OF SILENCE before the blanks appeared, and I couldn't get LAUGHTER.

I solved the bonus puzzle just after the E in WHEAT was "dinged" but not yet revealed, and this might have actually been as easy as FROSTY THE SNOWMAN from this day in 1981. Eric is a good solver, so it's no surprise that he'd know what three-and-a-vowel were in the puzzle.

Hopefully Vanna's 40th has some good main game winnings and a bonus round win.

Yep, the winner’s winnings came entirely from those Toss-Ups and the Final Spin puzzle. But I will say that Eric is a very good puzzle solver and it’s no surprise he RSTLNEd the bonus puzzle like we did.

On tonight's rerun of this episode, an alternate take of Pat introducing the Triple Toss-Up was used. Interestingly, the closed captioning forgot to remove "T-Mobile" from the original take's line, even though they did change the line afterwards to remove the word "tonight".

Also, this airing had a longer credit roll, and the New Year's closing segment was intact.
