S40 Taping Report: August 11, 2022

Ok I’ll relax on how much I say next time when I type.

Since I don't work at the show, I can only speculate on a bunch of the "why?" questions, but if you want my answers...



There still were COVID precautions made the entire show. Everyone who wasn't Pat, Vanna, Jim, or the three contestants onstage had to wear masks, the contestants were given a bag of COVID-items to use, including hand sanitizing during every commercial break, and the pegs were sanitized between every game.

COVID is still around, regardless if cases are on the rise or falling, so if Pat isn't comfortable always going near the contestants, so be it.

EDIT: Pat wasn't giving "handshakes and hugs" IIRC; I don't recall him touching the contestants.



The show isn't trapped in the era you like the most, and that's a good thing (This doesn't apply to just you; that kind of applies to everyone). The puzzleboard changing allows for some really cool things and fewer points of failure, the removal of the video wall forces more set creativity, the Wild Card icon is a great indicator for those at home, 1/2 Car is probably budget and that winning the car meant you won the game, and I don't understand why the show would go backwards two sets of cues.



Jeopardy wasn't getting completely full audiences either for its first taping, and they've had the benefit of relying on superchampions to allow social media buzz, as many answers a day as Wheel gets in over a week, allowing for more variety of things to guess, and a soap-operaesque debate between Ken and Mayim, allowing for a divide in the fanbase while appealing to different people. Wheel doesn't have that, and arguably the newest element introduced and still active Express, which was added nine years ago? What has Wheel been doing to reliably bring back viewers?

In addition, Jeopardy released their tickets about a week or so earlier than Wheel, while Wheel was less clear on when tickets were going live, and Wheel also cancelled audience for the first three tapings. Combined with the fact COVID is still a thing, and the fact that those 50+ had to be double boosted, led to confusion for both shows.

Exactly.  And if you think about it, I believe the rights for the 2006-2016 music package expired at the end of the 2016 calendar year, and that's why they introduced the 2017 cues at the beginning of that calendar year midway into Season 34.   Not only that, they replaced the 2006/2007 cues with the 2017 ones during weekend reruns of Season 33 as well as summer and weekend repeats of pre-2017 Season 34 episodes.  However, they left the 2006/07 cues intact was when they repeated some S33 episodes during the long summer hiatus two years ago.

I honestly originally thought we would have the 2007-2016 cues on the show forever but I was wrong, another thing I don’t like is the set, why would they get rid of the 2003-2010 set? Another thing is why Belamie Blackstone decided to get rid of the puzzleboard screens, she ruined the show! You need to leave Belamie!
