Third Goen Episode - Original Airdate 7/19/1989
There's over $42,000 waiting to be won today, but it's going to take all week to give it away here on WHEEL! OF! CHEAPNESS!
Here are our challengers and champion:
Suzy Simon, a student at Florida Atlantic University from Coral Springs
Jeff Kessler, a journalism/advertising student at University of Colorado-Boulder
Patrick (no last name again), our returning champ with a one-day total of $9,670 cash, watches, and jewelry
ROUND 1:
$500 is the top dollar for Rounds 1 and 2. Between last show and today's episode, we've gained $250 of wheel value by managing to upgrade a $50 and a $75.

PHRASE
It's a big Phrase to start the game, and control of the wheel belongs to Suzy. She starts us off by hitting a brand-new $175 and finding a pair of T's. She lights up a pair of S's as well and then buys FOUR E's. A couple spins later, she duds an L and Jeff will get a turn. He works hard for his money, but unfortunately will BANKRUPT $800 and now our champ will have his shot at this puzzle. Just like last show, Patrick will take advantage of the FREE SPIN wedge and pick up one to use later. Next he lights up a B and FOUR O's (in the bizarre styling which we believe are actually zeroes instead). Patrick uses the "one more" line, but thankfully it doesn't backfire on him... well, sort of - he hits $75. Everything else is a vowel:
W E ' R E
S _ P P O S E D / T O
B E / O N
V _ C _ T I O N
PHRASE
He solves WE'RE SUPPOSED TO BE ON VACATION for a paltry $225 and the lead!
Sole Dud: L (Suzy)
Bankrupt: Jeff ($800)
Suzy: dud artist
Jeff: Bankrupt victim
Patrick: $225 + Free Spin
ROUND 2:
We add a prize to the wheel for this round - a Sherwood component stereo system worth $599.

TITLE
Jeff gets a chance to bounce back from that early bad luck by starting this round. His second spin hits upon the STEREO, and he'll pick it up, but he won't find any R's for the $50 underneath it, so he loses his turn. Patrick builds a bit of momentum, but can't find an S in the puzzle and so he must cash in his Free Spin. That's a good move, because his next guess finds a quadruplet of L's! He's been flirting with Lose a Turn all game, so he decides it's time to end the round:
_ A L L I N G / I N
L _ V _ / W I T H

TITLE
He's FALLING IN LOVE WITH LOVE for $1,200!
Duds: R (Jeff), S (Patrick - Free Spin used)
Suzy: didn't get a turn this round
Jeff: didn't win the stereo this round
Patrick: $1,425
ROUND 3:
We upgrade the wheel to $1,000 top dollar and also include a weekend trip to Las Vegas worth $1,136 and some Majorica pearls worth $1,160.

THING
Our returning champ Patrick has the lead as well as control of the round. He'll put up three consonants at $200 each and then buy three E's for $200 total, leaving him $400 ahead of the game. After calling for the PEARLS all round, his third spin just barely makes it to them, and they go into his bank! But he's not done yet - a later spin his the big $1,000 space for a pair of V's! Is it any surprise he's ready to solve?

THING
For solving puzzles, there's no VIABLE ALTERNATIVE as Patrick adds another $2,600 cash and the pearls!
PERFECT ROUND!
Suzy: gooseegg alert
Jeff: gooseegg alert
Patrick: $5,185 cash and pearls
ROUND 4:
$1,250 and $750 come out to play, and tagging along for some laughs is a Chromcraft dining group valued at $1,708 (as well as the trip to Vegas from the last round).

THINGS
Suzy gets her first turn since Round 1, and she'd better make it count! A pair of T's on $400 aren't enough for a comeback yet though... and her next two spins are $100. She shells out $200 for a trio of E's, and another $200 for a pair of A's. She's going to end this round, hoping for another...

THINGS
His picks of CPMA have Vanna standing stock-still. He doesn't even have a guess, proving that this is one puzzle that shouldn't be handled with KID GLOVES. So no car for him, but he still has $14,855 in cash, watches, jewelry, and pearls and one more day to play!
