Fourth Goen Episode - Original Airdate 7/20/1989
There's over $42,000 just waiting to be won, and we won't hold our breath for it to happen here on WHEEL! OF! CHEAPNESS!
Two challengers, one champ, and heeeeeeeeeeeeeeere they are!
Please forgive the spelling, there are some odd-sounding names.
Julie Mumpie, a computer company quality control officer
Patrick (and nothing else), a two-day champ with $14,855 cash, watches, jewelry, and pearls
Lesa Jean-Pierre, a junior at the University of Oklahoma from Oklahoma City
ROUND 1:
$500 is the top dollar value for the first two rounds. We play for small amounts of cash, and this is the first puzzle:

_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
THING
Julie will start us off by spinning up $100 (flirting with Lose a Turn) but can't find any N's. Patrick takes over, but his second spin is the Lose a Turn Julie missed, and he hasn't had a chance to acquire a Free Spin yet. Lesa's second spin hits the big $500 for a pair of R's. She then puts up some other letters, including a trio of E's and a pair of A's, before repeating a previously called T. Julie gets it back and fills in most of the rest...
S T R I P E D
B E A C H
_ _ B R E L L A
THING
It's a STRIPED BEACH UMBRELLA, and she banks $900!
Sole Dud: N (Julie)
Lose a Turn: Patrick
DQ: Lesa's repeated T
Julie: $900
Patrick: Lose a Turn victim
Lesa: blew a good sum of cash with that DQ
ROUND 2:
We keep the same wheel but lay down a Benrus lady's bracelet watch which is worth $500. This round has a sizable puzzle too!

PHRASE
Our returning champ Patrick gets to begin this round (one of the last of his run) just like Julie did, with $100. He can't modulate his power to get to FREE SPIN, but he'll take a triple T on $200 and shell out $200 for 3 A's. For a minute, he can't decide just what he wants to do, but he settles on solving:
I / C _ _ _ D _ ' T
_ _ _ _ / A
S T R A I G H T
_ A C _
PHRASE
and he says I COULDN'T KEEP A STRAIGHT FACE for $1,175!
PERFECT ROUND!
Julie: $900
Patrick: $1,175
Lesa: starts the next round
ROUND 3:
Our wheel now tops out at $1,000 and includes a Tappan side-by-side refrigerator valued at $1,300 (plus the watch has carried over from last round).

TITLE
Lesa will now try to redeem herself this round, and she begins with $100 just like the others, just an inch away from the fridge. She gets FOUR T's for that amount though, which means $400 goes into the BANKRUPT Vault on her next spin. Julie wants to reclaim the lead, and she finds a quadruplet of her own - four H's on $150, and she will solve on the spot:
_ _ / T H _
H _ _ T / _ _
T H _ / _ _ G H T
TITLE
Under the heat of the studio light, she solves IN THE HEAT OF THE NIGHT for $750 to retake the lead!
Bankrupt: Lesa ($400)
Julie: $1,650
Patrick: $1,175
Lesa: unskilled and unlucky
ROUND 4:
$1,250 and $750 are ready and rarin' to be hit, and so are the watch, the fridge, and a Borroni bar set worth a whopping $2,976!
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _
THING
Julie wants to unseat Patrick as champion, so she'll need to extend her lead here. But just like every round before, we start with the lowly $100 space, which won't add up to very much. But it will when paired with her second spin of $1,250!!! Even though there's only one G, that's $1,350 on two spins for her already. She almost hits it again two spins later, but that flipper stretches out about as far is it can to stay on $100. Her next spin though is right on the money - $1,250 again! She's up to $2,600 now and just misses the bar set by one peg, which is probably good because she duds an L! Patrick smells blood, but he only racks up $700 before deciding he's chicken again:
S _ _ P P I N G
C A R T
THING
He gets a SHOPPING CART full of cash in that amount of $700, but we're not done yet - another round on the way!
Sole Dud: L (Julie)
Julie: $1,650
Patrick: $1,875
Lesa: gooseegg alert
ROUND 5 (Partial Speedup):

PERSON
DING DING, DING DING! Bob's going to speed it up by spinning up $300. But it won't take much longer - Patrick calls for three T's and immediately ends it:
