Nighttime Wheel of Fortune: "Great Outdoors" - Original Airdate 12/20/2001 (Season 19)
Last night, we gave away $100,000 in bonus cash for the first time.
Can we do it again? Find out on WHEEL! OF! FORTUNE!
$1,000 TOSS-UP:

PHRASE
Our red player shouts out an answer, but it's the blue player, Dave, that gets the buzz:
W O _ K S / _ I K E
M A G I _
PHRASE
He agrees with the premature guess of WORKS LIKE MAGIC and that's good for $1,000! Let's meet him and his two opponents:
Dave Kinder, a dot-com startup man from Los Angeles
Danielle Harris (our early guesser), a mother of two from Temecula, CA by way of New Orleans
Cori Stone (female), a third grade teacher from Henderson, Nevada by way of New Jersey
$2,000 TOSS-UP:

LIVING THING
Danielle remembers to buzz in this time:
A / _ L _ C _ I N G
H E N
LIVING THING
and she bags $2,000 and control of Round 1 with A CLUCKING HEN!
ROUND 1:
_ _ _ / _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _
ON THE MAP
Danielle will start us off by spinning up a $300 T (with the flipper oh so close to hitting $700 instead). Given the placement of the T, her next logical calls are the H and then buying the E, which takes her down to $650. That will stay in her bank as we go to Cori, because there are no S's. Then Dave will have his chance, since there are no D's either. He finds the biggest multiple of the round - three R's at $500 each - but there are no O's, so $1,250 lies fallow as we return to Danielle. She fills the rest of the puzzle (meanwhile picking up the JVC gift tag with the last N):
T H E / R H I N E
R I V E R
ON THE MAP
and reads off THE RHINE RIVER for $850 and the gift tag!
Duds: S (Danielle), D (Cori), O (Dave)
Danielle: $3,850 cash and JVC gift
Cori: starts the next round
Dave: $1,000
ROUND 2 - JACKPOT ROUND:
It's time to bring out the OxiClean Jackpot space, as well as this prize:
a Vermont ski retreat valued at $3,400!

HUSBAND & WIFE
Cori gets to try and get on the scoreboard this round... well, never mind, she hits BANKRUPT right away. Dave will take the wheel for FIVE $800 N's - a fast $4,000! Given the placement of one of the N's, he decides to take the D, and there are three of those for $800 each as well. He then buys a quintuplet of A's, which reduces his bank to $6,150... and then BANKRUPTs, which reduces it to zero. Danielle is spinning with the lead now, and a $3,500 R would extend that lead very nicely if she can keep the cash... but she BANKRUPTs too - it's now hit everybody once this round! Cori finally manages to get some cash in her bank, and on her second spin picks up the FREE SPIN with an L. After putting up a trio of $600 W's and buying the E, she wants to finish the round:
P A _ L / N E W _ A N
A N D / _ _ A N N E
W _ _ D W A R D
HUSBAND & WIFE
She finally gets on the board with PAUL NEWMAN AND JOANNE WOODWARD for $1,850!
Bankrupt: Cori (loss of turn), Dave ($6,150), Danielle ($3,500)
Unclaimed Jackpot: $11,000
Danielle: $3,850 cash and JVC gift
Cori: $1,850 + Free Spin
Dave: $1,000
ROUND 3 - $10,000 ROUND:
That $10,000 "Oreo" wedge is hiting the wheel, as is a Polaris snowmobile (with gear) and James Bond movie/game collection collectively worth $7,260!

_ _ _ / _ _ _ _ _
BEFORE & AFTER
Dave will try to do some catching up in this round, and a pair of $600 T's puts him well on his way to doing just that. Based on the T placement, he next goes for the logical H and E calls. His next few spins stay in the $300/$900 area (although one flirts with Bankrupt) before hihtting $600 for three F's. After buying us out of vowels, he still doesn't know it, so he spins.. and it's the SNOWMOBILE, which he picks up with a P! Now he thinks he knows it:
S H E L F
L I F E / O F
T H E / P A R T _
BEFORE & AFTER
His correctly solving SHELF LIFE OF THE PARTY means he'll take $5,000 cash and the snowmobile, for a big lead!
PERFECT ROUND!
Danielle: $3,850 cash and JVC gift
Cori: $1,850 + Free Spin
Dave: $13,260 cash and snowmobile/movie package
$3,000 TOSS-UP:

THINGS
Dave is the first one in:
_ _ I N _ O A T / &
B O O _ S
THINGS
but he's off with what sounds like PINCOAT & BOOTS. Cori buzzes right after him and gives the right answer, RAINCOAT & BOOTS, to add $3,000!
Danielle: $3,850 cash and JVC gift
Cori: $4,850 + Free Spin
Dave: $13,260 cash and snowmobile/movie package
ROUND 4:
_ / _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ / _ _
_ _ _ _
EVENT
Cori has taken back second place, and she wants to get a little closer to first this round. A pair of $900 T's will help her to a fast start, and while there are no R's, she will hand in that Free Spin to keep her turn going. After a little more work, she calls for a bad D, so it's back to dominant Dave. But he won't be dominating anyone by landing on BANKRUPT, instead Danielle will go for it. The rest of the round is all her:
A / _ _ I E T
E _ E N I N G / A T
H O M E
EVENT
She can enjoy A QUIET EVENING AT HOME counting $1,550... what's more, we have another puzzle!
Sole Dud: D (Cori)
Bankrupt: Dave (loss of turn)
Danielle: $5,400 cash and JVC gift
Cori: $4,850
Dave: $13,260 cash and snowmobile/movie package
ROUND 5 (Partial Speedup):
_ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _
AROUND THE HOUSE
Dave will have the wheel first in this round. He puts up an $800 S and buys the A before hitting a bad F. Danielle finds two $900 N's and then buys a pair of I's, and then a G. But her bad call of P runs out the last of our time, so going into speedup, the board looks like this:
S _ _ I N G
_ A _ _ I N _
AROUND THE HOUSE
Pat's nowhere near the big one - he hits $300 past Lose a Turn, so all consonants are $1,300 from here on out. Cori calls the M and immediately solves:
S _ _ I N G
M A _ _ I N _
AROUND THE HOUSE
She can buy a nice SEWING MACHINE with $1,300, but not a trip to Bonusland - that's reserved for Dave!
Duds (pre-speedup): F (Dave), P (Danielle)
Danielle: $5,400 cash and JVC gift
Cori: $6,150 cash
Dave: $13,260 cash and snowmobile/movie package
Dave will hope for a lucky spin to give him $100,000 - let's find out what happens!
BONUS ROUND:
Dave's spin lands on the 1 in $100,000.
_ _ _ _ _ _ _
AROUND THE HOUSE
We help him out with RSTLNE:
_ _ T _ T _ _
AROUND THE HOUSE
His picks are CDPA:
_ A T _ T _ _
AROUND THE HOUSE
He starts by sounding out BAT before proceeding to blow it with guesses that sound like CATTRAY and CATATAT, which are both nowhere near the correct answer of BATHTUB. He will NOT be taking home $25,000 in cash. The $100,000 envelope is shown by Pat to be under the first 0 in $100,000 - his spin was one space too long to play for it. But Dave still goes away with $13,260 of combined cash and the snowmobile/movie package!
Last night, we gave away $100,000 in bonus cash for the first time.
