Look at this studio, filled with prizes and cash CBS couldn't handle! Fabulous merchandise available for purchase including... a $7,000 cash Jackpot! Ride in style with this $12,000 station wagon! Wear this $3,900 diamond and sapphire ring! And... this $1,900 pine bookcase! Over $81,000 just waiting to be won today on... Daytime Wheel of Fortune Before Cheap Chaos Began! And these three players probably could use this big amount.
Pete Gammerginger: A U.S. Navy lieutenant and helicopter pilot.
Carolyn Whiteheiser: Carolyn, our returning champion, has $7,150 in prizes from her first 2 days!
Elaine Oserwicky: She's some kind of director at a pharmaceutical agency (?).
Well... these three players have odd last names, so no doubt I got them wrong, so bear with me here. Anyway... who will come out on top? Who will come out on bottom? Who will be the icing of this Oreo? Let's find out!
Starting things off with the top dollar amount of $750 and it's in the same spot as the Nighttime version. Almost the same wheel as Nighttime, but values are less because, well, it's Daytime. And now, the first puzzle is a Phrase, one that comes with an apostrophe.
Pete gets us going and on his first spin, he lights up FOUR Ts at $500 a piece. After a bit more work, he duds with a W on $400. Over to Carolyn, who lands on the red $300 and calls a bad C. Now we go to Elaine, who lights up an R and then wants to make sure there are no Cs... by repeating the C. Back to Pete...
...who fills in the remaining consonants and solves DON'T GET INTO A RUT for $3,000 to spend in the Kids Room!
Purchases:
Diamond Mask Pen - $2,100
Electronic Typewriter - $400
Color TV Radio - $370
$130 on a Gift Certificate
Pete: $3,000
Carolyn:
Elaine:
Bankrupts: 0
Lose a Turns: 0
Duds: 3 (Pete - W - $2,500), (Carolyn - C - $0), (Elaine - Repeat C - $200)
Missolves: 0
Now Round 2 is here and so is the $1,000 wedge, $900, $800, and $700! Almost identical to the Nighttime wheel, but with a few minor differences. Here comes the next puzzle, it's an Event.
Our returning champion starts this round, but ends her turn rather quickly with a Bankrupt. Now it's Elaine's turn but after lighting up the T, she calls a bad N on $700. Over to Pete, whose fate is the same as Carolyn's. Back to Carolyn now, who lands on the blue $400 and duds with an S. Elaine has her turn back, but after some spinning and the first buying of the day, she Bankrupts away $250. Pete has his turn now, but for a very limited time since he LATs. Over to Carolyn, who lands on the pink $300 and calls another dud, a P. Now play turns to Elaine, who lights up a few more letters before Pat says it's time for a break.
What have the players been doing? They've been doing this:
Pete:
Carolyn: Master of Turn Loss
Elaine: $500
Bankrupts: 3 (Pete - $0), (Carolyn - $0), (Elaine - $250)
Lose a Turns: 1 (Pete - $0)
Duds: 3 (Carolyn (2) - S, P - both with $0), (Elaine - N - $500)
Missolves: 0
Now, just before Pat went to commercials, Elaine was doing some spinning and her turn is still going. But after a lot of work, Elaine hits Lose a Turn and her turn is lost. Soon we have this...
Pete knows that this is a MEDICAL BREAKTHROUGH, and he has $1,300 to help satisfy the need of prizes, he will spend that money in the Home Office Library.
Purchases:
Lamps - $350
Italian Rug - $600
Mantle Clock - $314
$36 on a Gift Certificate
Pete: $4,300
Carolyn:
Elaine:
Bankrupts: 3 (Pete - $0), (Carolyn - $0), (Elaine - $250)
Lose a Turns: 2 (Pete - $0), (Elaine - $950)
Duds: 3 (Carolyn (2) - S, P - both with $0), (Elaine - N - $500)
Missolves: 0
Pete has a strong lead, but it's still anybody's game, with the $7,000 Jackpot here for this round, but that's not all, there's also a $2,000 and $1,500 wedge on the wheel! Now, the catgory for the Round 3 puzzle is a Phrase.
We start with Elaine, who does a good amount of work, including lighting up a $1,500 H, but after all of that, she duds with an A. Over to Pete, who lands on $400 and calls a bad M. But before Carolyn could spin, the bells step in and let Pat spin the wheel one last time. But he doesn't get a big amount, only $250 per consonant. Carolyn and Elaine both call duds, Pete calls the Rs, but cannot figure it out. Carolyn and Elaine then both dud again allowing Pete to put up the Fs...
...and he makes a clean sweep with IN THE FOREFRONT, which gives him $1,000 more to spend in the Pool Room.
Purchases:
Las Vegas Weekend - $906
$94 on a Gift Certificate
Pete: $5,300
Carolyn: Unlucky (2-day winnings: $7,150)
Elaine: Queen of Duds
Bankrupts: 0
Lose a Turns: 0
Duds: 6 (Pete - M - $0), (Carolyn (2) - S, C - both with $0), (Elaine (3) - A, D, W - all with $2,850)
Missolves: 0
Now Pete is here in the Bonus Round, he won a ton of prizes so far, but he can always use a Pontiac, whichis what he'splaying for. It's worth $11,478! And to win that car, he has to solve another puzzle, a Person, which does not always mean Proper Name, only sometimes.
Five consonants and one vowel is what he must choose and... heck, we all know he chooses RSTLNE...
But it does fill in half of the puzzle. Let's see if he can end up being a car winner...
Sure enough, he is! He knows his one-day total will make him feel like he's the BEST MAN and it should, $16,778 in prizes! Pete will be on the next episode facing two new opponents.
