It's Christmas Day, 1987, the time of year where Winter is here and fun is always happening, especially on Wheel of Fortune!
-------------------------------------
Look at this studio, filled with lots of prizes CBS probably wouldn't use! Fabulous merchandise to spend your money on and prizes to win in the Bonus Round which may happen on... Daytime Wheel of Fortune Housed By the Great NBC! And these three players are here to add on to what they won earlier in the week.
Lance Vaulin: A senior who likes to scuba dive and ski, he has won over $18,000 in prizes on Wednesday!
Renee Santrell (very hard to hear): A senior who won over $11,000 in prizes and car!
Joey Reedman: I'm sure you remember him from my last recap, he won over $12,000 in prizes, including a Trip to Orlando!
And these three players have played Wheel of Fortune the best and that is why they are here, but only one of them can take home another win. Let's see who wins.
A lesser wheel than Nighttime, but $750 is still here and it's the top dollar amount for Round 1. There's also a Bankrupt right next to $750, that will take your money, but not your prizes because once you buy a prize, you're forced to keep it. The first puzzle's category is the then-real Phrase.
Lance won the backstage draw, so he gets to go first, but he gets to go Bankrupt first after calling the Ns. Renee then calls FOUR Ts, but only on $200. After that, she puts up the G and then buys some vowels before dudding with an S on the blue $300. Over to Joey, who thinks the last word might be EVE, but his V is a dud. Lance puts up a few more consonants before calling a bad P on the blue $500. Back to Renee that does abit more work before calling an L as in "Lost your turn". Joey is then able to put up that B...
And then solves WITHOUT BATTING AN EYE for $100, which bumps itself to $200, the house minimum. No shopping tonight, so that $200 is going to a savings bond.
Lance:
Renee:
Joey: $200
Bankrupts: 1 (Lance - $1,000)
Lose a Turns: 0
Duds: 4 (Lance - P - $400), (Renee (2) - S, L - $400, $450), (Joey - V - $0)
Missolves: 0
We're immediately heading into Round 2, so the $750 wedge is still on the wheel and it is still the top dollar and the next puzzle is an Event.
Renee starts this round and puts up a few letters before landing on $150 and ending her turn by choosing R. Joey is now in control...
...and gets some more savings bond cash, $1,300 with BAKING A BATCH OF COOKIES! Speaking of which, I have some cookie dough, I should have some tomorrow.
Lance:
Renee:
Joey: $1,500
Bankrupts: 0
Lose a Turns: 0
Duds: 1 (Renee - R - $650)
Missolves: 0
Now the $1,000 wedge is on the wheel, but a second Bankrupt is here as well. These players have to try and solve a Place this time around.
Joey starts this round and racks up a good amount of cash (Daytime, need I say more) before dudding with an M on $550. Lance then is in charge of the rest of the round...
...but he does not need to get sent to THE PRINCIPAL'S OFFICE since he solved this puzzle correctly for $2,200 in savings bonds!
Lance: $2,200
Renee:
Joey: $1,500
Bankrupts: 0
Lose a Turns: 0
Duds: 1 (Joey - M - $1,600)
Missolves: 0
Yes. There's a Round 4 on the NBC Daytime version of WoF. No shopping kind of helps that happen. Anyway, there's a $2,000 wedge on the wheel, as well as its partner, $1,500. The next puzzle which doesn't always mean Proper Names is People.
Lance gets off to a great start by racking up $4,600 in his first two spins! He keeps it going...
...and gets $6,150 in savings bonds by solving COLLEGE STUDENTS!
Lance: $8,350
Renee:
Joey: $1,500
PERFECTION!
Bankrupts: 0
Lose a Turns: 0
Duds: 0
Missolves: 0
Fun Fact - Every wedge that was landed on this round was no less than $800.
I'm sure you were just as shocked as I was to know there's time for a fifth round, but there is, and $2,000 is still onthe wheel, as well as $1,500 that as hit last round! The next category is another Phrase, but this one houses an apostrophe.
Renee starts this round and gets a few letters up there before thinking the third word is WE, but we know there aren't any Ws. Over to Joey who does some work before he calls a dud P. Lance spins, but calls a bad L on the red $300. Renee does more work, but it gets shattered by a pointer that barely held onto Bankrupt. Back to Joey, but his fate is the same as Renee's. Lance lights up the V, but then repeats what Joey did, losing his $800. Renee puts up the V right before Speedup starts. Pat gives the wheel a final spin, he aims for the $1,500, but it ends up on the pink $350. Renee lights up the C...
She says YOU'RE DRIVING ME CRAZY, but Pat isn't really driving her crazy. She has $1,050 in savings bonds.
Lance: $8,350
Renee: $1,050
Joey: $1,500
Bankrupts: 3 (Lance - $800), (Renee - $1,350), (Joey - $0)
Lose a Turns: 0
Duds: 3 (Lance - L - $0), (Renee - W - $500), (Joey - P - $0)
Missolves: 0
Lance has won $26,928 in prizes and savings bonds already, before his second Bonus Round! And hopeully for a big finish, he wants to play for the Mazda 323 Hatchback valued at $7,783! Now the puzzle he must solve to win that car is... Person.
He picks RSTLNE, but in a different order. Try STRNLE.
Which fills in half of the puzzle, but can he get that car?
Yes he can and that brings his total up to $34,711 in prizes, savings bonds, and car! And I am sure Lance, Renee, Joey, Pat, Vanna, and Jack Clarkall all had a very merry Christmas! Tomorrow I will do a 1988 Daytime WoF recap, so be on the lookout for that.
