Daytime Wheel of Fortune - Original Airdate 1/4/1990
An assortment of prizes and a little cash may or may not be given away today on WHEEL! OF! CHEAPNESS!
Let's meet our three players:
Mike Schniftler, our returning champion with a one-day total of $4,099 in cash and prizes
Marcia Garza, a caterer from the LA area, just spent six months in Chicago
Don Mcafee, father of five from Carlsbad, CA by way of Texas
ROUND 1:
$500 is the top dollar for the first two rounds. We play for small amounts of cash, and here's the first puzzle:
_ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _
THING
Mike, our champ, will get the spinning underway by hitting LOSE A TURN, so we turn to Marcia instead. She hits the top dollar of $500, but there are no S's, so it's on to Don. He can't find a T, so Mike will have another chance. He'll put up a pair of N's at $175 each, which means we have our first cash of the game - and also that $350 goes into the BANKRUPT Vault on his next spin. Marcia gets to try again now, and she just misses the Free Spin, which would've been nice to have when she calls the bad L. Who will break through in this round? It won't be Don just yet, although he does get some cash before his next dud. Mike hits his third penalty spin of the round - another LOSE A TURN - and Marcia hits her third dud in a row - no C's. After a Don dud, Mike gets his fourth chance of the round, and while it doesn't end in a penalty, it does end - the bad H sees to that. Marcia ends the drought with a $400 G, but her next spin revokes the cash with BANKRUPT. Don finally gets us out of this funk, and also he'll get us out of consonants:
P _ N K _ E
F _ N G E R
THING
He finally solves PINKIE FINGER for $475!
Duds: S (Marcia), T (Don), L (Marcia), D (Don), C (Marcia), M (Don), H (Mike)
Lose a Turn: Mike x2
Bankrupt: Mike ($350), Marcia ($400)
Mike: very very unlucky
Marcia: dud artist
Don: $475
ROUND 2:
We're going to add a prize: a film-lover's movie and reference book package worth $1,250!
_ _ _ _ / _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ / _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _
PHRASE
Marcia will try to snap out of last round's funk, and she'll start with a $200 N. She hits $200 again for a big multiple - SIX T's! She takes the next logical picks of E and H, then finds a nice trio of S's. Then she goes into buying mode, finding one A but no O's, so Don will take over and BANKRUPT his turn away to give Mike a chance. His second spin hits a pair of $400 L's and so he would like to solve:
W A _ T / _ N T _ L
T H E / _ _ S T
S E T T L E S
PHRASE
He won't WAIT UNTIL THE DUST SETTLES to claim $925!
Sole Dud: O (Marcia)
Bankrupt: Don (loss of turn)
Mike: $925
Marcia: dud collector
Don: $475
ROUND 3:
$1,000 is now the top dollar, and we add another prize: a bedroom group valued at a whopping $3,698!
The movies are still out there as well.
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
BEFORE & AFTER
Don will begin our third round by passing to Mike via BANKRUPT. Mike keeps getting more and more letters - first a single T, then a trio of N's, then FIVE E's! But then BANKRUPT hits him too, taking $300 in the process. Marcia's flipper is just one peg short of the room prize, so she'll settle for four $100 L's. She flirts with Lose a Turn, but finds a triple S on $400 instead, and now she will end this round:
_ N _ _ _ _ L L E
T E N N E S S E E
W _ L L _ _ _ S
BEFORE & AFTER
Thus KNOXVILLE TENNESSEE WILLIAMS will net her $1,700 and the lead... everybody has money!
Bankrupt: Don (loss of turn), Mike ($300)
Mike: $925
Marcia: $1,700
Don: $475
ROUND 4:
$1,250 and $750 join the party, and we add a third prize: an Alaskan cruise worth a massive $4,600!
The other prizes are still there, and this is an exotic category coming up:
_ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ / _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _
PERSON/TITLE
Mike gets the wheel to start here, trying to make up ground. His first spin is FOUR $100 N's, but I bet he'd wished he'd saved them - his next spin is $1,250! There is a T though, and then he'll buy the I's and E before giving back $1,250 to BANKRUPT. Marcia has the turn and the lead, and now the ROOM! But she'll be giving up her turn, because there are no G's for the $200 underneath. Don just stays out of bankruptcy with his second spin, but he's OK. He'll miss the cruise on the short side next spin, but the one after is the big $1,250 for a pair of S's! He will solve it now:
_ N T H _ N Y
P E _ _ I N S / I N
P S Y _ H _
PERSON/TITLE
and ANTHONY PERKINS IN PSYCHO has Don going psycho - he's just banked $3,600 in cash and stolen the game!
Sole Dud: G (Marcia)
Bankrupt: Mike ($1,250)
Mike: $925 cash (two-day total of $5,024 cash and prizes)
Marcia: $1,700 cash
Don: $4,075 cash
Don will be heading to Bonusland!
BONUS ROUND:
Don has elected to play for the $5,000 cash bonus. Dim the lights!

THING
We give him every RSTLN and E:
T _ _ _ _ _ L E R _

His additional picks are HMPO, and I think he's in good shape:
