Daytime Wheel of Fortune - Original Airdate 3/25/1980
Look at this studio - over $46,000 in fabulous merchandise just waiting to be won today on Wheel of Fortune!
Let's meet our players (as usual, pardon the spellings):
Mazel Burlew, medical record administrator and librarian from Houston
Bob Parise, grants coordinator and law student from Skokie, IL
Kevin Gagne, a two-day champion who's racked up $6,350 in prizes so far
ROUND 1:
The top dollar value in our first round is $750. Watch out for that black space, "BANKRUPT", though, because you'll lose your cash - but not your merchandise, because once you buy a prize, it's yours forever or until the IRS comes down on you, whichever comes first.
_ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _
PERSON
Mazel will spin the wheel first, looking for some big money, and she'll find a decent $450 but no N's. It goes over to Bob next, and he calls a good T followed by a bad S. This gives champ Kevin his first crack at the wheel, and it'll drop in on $200 but there are no L's either, so it makes it back around to Mazel. As Susan leisurely scratches her elbow, Mazel's spin works its way over to $350 for a pair of R's, after which she buys the E and A's. Her next (and last) spin is a very nice $600 and there's a pair of G's! She wants to solve:
G R E T A
G A R _ _
PERSON
and solve she will with GRETA GARBO for $1,400!
Duds: N (Mazel), S (Bob), L (Kevin)
Mazel will take her money into the Utility Center showcase and buy a washer and dryer for $820 and a refrigerator/freezer for $550, leaving $30 for a gift certificate.
Mazel: $1,400
Bob: two spins, one dud
Kevin: nothing yet, but still has his previous winnings
ROUND 2:
$1,000 is the maximum out there now. We also have the second BANKRUPT to spice things up.

TITLE
Bob gets a chance to get back on track, and $900 is a great way to do it with a pair of T's! Next he goes for the logical H (a pair at $150 each) and the E's (FOUR of them). He almost Bankrupts away $2,100 but the wheel just skates by to $600, and there's one L as in LUCKY spin to avoid the penalty. After a pair of $500 C's, he's had enough of this round before we can even get a commercial in:
T H E
E L E C T _ _ C
H _ _ S E _ A _
TITLE
and THE ELECTRIC HORSEMAN will ride in and give Bob $3,700!
PERFECT ROUND!
Bob's going to shop in the Bedroom this round and purchase the brass bed for $1,355, the quilt for $500, the brass desk and chair for $1,425, a pair of benches for $278 and finally some books for $70, leaving $72 for the old gift certificate.
Mazel: $1,400
Bob: $3,700
Kevin: will start the next round
ROUND 3:
$2,000's out there now, and $1,500's not far behind.

QUOTATION
Our champion, Kevin, finds his odds of being a three-day winner lengthened by being in third place at this point, but we're surprisingly not even halfway through the show yet! He'll take his second spin of the game and land upon $150 for a pair of N's, followed by purchasing FOUR A's, which Susan is turning before they even light up! He's just ever so shy of the $1,500 next spin, but $800's good money, and there and two R's. Kevin will solve now...
R A _ N / R A _ N
_ _ / A _ A _
QUOTATION
and he says RAIN RAIN GO AWAY for $1,650 and everyone has money now!
PERFECT ROUND!
Kevin gets to shop in the Living Room-type area (couldn't make out the actual name). His purchases are a bar/stereo cabinet for $997, a camera for $435, and a Chinese picture for $139 - this puts $79 on a gift certificate.
Mazel: $1,400
Bob: $3,700
Kevin: $1,650
ROUND 4:
That's right, a fourth round in a shopping episode. Rare, but it's been known to happen - let's get to it!
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
THING
Mazel will start this round, and now SHE'S the one coming from third place and trying to catch up. There's no T, though, so we have our first dud since round 1. Bob calls the good R and the bad S to send it on to Kevin. He'll put up the rest of the consonants, getting close to the $2,000 on his last spin but skating right by:
P O R C _ P _ N _
THING
and this living thing is a PORCUPINE so Kevin adds $850 more!
Duds: T (Mazel), S (Bob)
Kevin goes back to the Utility Center that Mazel shopped in earlier. He'll buy a stereo for $350, a kitchen machine for $325, utility room accessories for $83, and towels for $63, which leaves $29 for the gift certificate.
Mazel: $1,400
Bob: $3,700
Kevin: $2,500
ROUND 5 (Partial Speedup):
What? A fifth round in the shopping era? Amazing but true!
_ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ / _ _ _
THING
Bob will spin with the lead here, but he's unlucky enough to hit the first penalty spin of the game (can you believe it - four whole rounds without penalties!) and it's BANKRUPT. Kevin will start instead, and he lights up the $800 R. He buys the O and then duds out with the L, so it's Mazel's turn now. But she'll be nice and give it back to Bob via BANKRUPT. He gets one $500 S, but that's the last of our time... here's the board before the final spin:
_ O R _ _ S _
_ _ _ _ / _ _ _ _
THING
Chuck licks his finger, points at his target, and spins a mighty spin... of $250. This one makes a couple rounds before:
C O R _ _ S _
_ _ M E / _ E _
THING
Mazel brings home the bacon, or rather, CORNISH GAME HEN for $500 more!
Duds (pre-speedup): L (Kevin)
Duds (post-speedup): P (Kevin), T (Bob), F (Kevin)
Bankrupt: Bob (loss of turn), Mazel (loss of turn)
Our last shopping trip is back to the Living Room area (still couldn't make out the name), and Mazel will buy the mirror for $500, leaving her all square.
Mazel: $1,900
Bob: $3,700
Kevin: $2,500 (retired with a three-day total of $8,850)
Bob is our big winner, and he'll be back on the next program to defend his title!
