Daytime Wheel of Fortune - Original Airdate 3/20/80
Look at these extravagant prizes - elegant flatware... a holiday in Acapulco... even a kayak! Over $40,000 just waiting to be won today on Wheel of Fortune!
Here are our players, including a returning champ:
Charline Rosenbloom, a nursing student and mother of one
Becky Charlton, our champion with a one-day total of $5,050
Les Lang, a writer originally from Chicago
ROUND 1:
$750 is the top dollar value in the first round. Our players must watch out for that black space "BANKRUPT" or they'll lose all their cash (but not their merchandise). Once they buy a prize, it's theirs till the end of time, give or take a few years.

THING
We drew numbers before going on the air and Charline gets to spin first. She's got $150 for a single T, and she'll spin again - her next spin is much better ($600!) but her letter choice not as good (no H's). Our champ Becky has control now, and this $600 seems to be unlucky - she hits it but finds no S. Les hits $400, which will be multiplied by the number of B's, which is also zero. Back to Charline, who gets a couple $100 N's followed by the FREE SPIN territory twice in a row! She almost gets there a third time - instead it's barely hanging onto $100 and again there are no D's. She elects to pass to Becky, who strikes out with the R, and then Les is able to find a G but repeats the H from earlier. Charline's luck is little better - she runs afoul of LOSE A TURN but hands in one of her pair of Free Spins. Her next try misses with the L, but Chuck doesn't ask for the other Free Spin - he just turns to Becky who passes on her turn with the dud P. Les picks up a Free Spin of his own before giving up his turn with no M's (Chuck again does not ask for the Free Spin). Charline takes her fourth turn of the round, and she breaks through with the sole W and pair of I's but then calls the bad F and turns in her other Free Spin. She buys the two E's and gets the last consonant (the V) - finally:
V I N T _ G E
W I N E
THING
Charline solves VINTAGE WINE to end the Round of Duds with $650!
Duds: H (Charline), S (Becky), B (Les), D (Charline - Free Spins not used), R (Becky)
More Duds: L (Charline - FS not asked for), P (Becky), M (Les - FS not asked for), F (Charline - FS#2 used)
Lose a Turn: Charline (FS#1 used)
DQ: Les's repeated H
Charline will shop in the Outdoor Fun showcase and buy the portable TV/radio for $599 and some $36 soup/beverage mugs, leaving $15 for a gift certificate.
Charline: $650
Becky: only her previous winnings
Les: a Free Spin but no cash
ROUND 2:
$1,000 is the top dollar value now. There's also a second Bankrupt to make it more interesting.

QUOTATION
Champ Becky would like to get on the board in this round... will she do it? Looking good to start - a trio of $250 T's give her $750 right away! She does even better on her next spin - a pair of $550 H's, which give her more than enough money to buy a couple O's. She gets a couple more letters up and then buys quadruple E's - that should help her to piece this puzzle together! After all that work, her turn stops because there is no B as in Becky. Time for Les to go to it, after this commercial - turn your backs!

QUOTATION
We're back, and Les will take over now... and he finds one of the big multiples in the round - a trio of $550 T's! His next spin is just by the $1,000 for a $150 K, but it's probably for the best, because his next attempt BANKRUPTs all $1,800 of his money. Not his turn though - he hands in the Free Spin and tries again with a $600 M as his microphone falls off. This is definitely not his round - his next spin is LOSE A TURN and we're out of Free Spins, so Charline will give it a go long enough to call the dud C. Becky's sitting on $2,100 - can she cash in on it? She adds to it first with a W, two Y's, and the last consonant in the L:
D R _ N K / T O / M E
O N L Y / W _ T H
T H _ N E / E Y E S
QUOTATION
She says DRINK TO ME ONLY WITH THINE EYES, and she's right for $3,050!
Duds: B (Becky), C (Charline)
Bankrupt: Les ($1,800 - Free Spin used)
Lose a Turn: Les
Becky will shop in the Fashion Showcase. Her purchases consist of the Acapulco trip for $1,048, the sewing machine for $489, some $353 luggage, ladies' shoes for $445, a lady's raincoat for $250, and a lady's fur jacket for $225. The remaining $240 isn't going on a gift certificate though - Becky puts it ON ACCOUNT!
Charline: $650
Becky: $2,810 ($240 ON ACCOUNT)
Les: gooseegg alert
ROUND 3 (Partial Speedup):
$2,000 and $1,500 make a nice tandem in this round!

PHRASE
Les had better try to get on the board - the game is nearing its end! His first spin slides off the $2,000 by one peg - instead of $4,000 for the pair of S's, it's $500 each for a $1,000 beginning. That money will be waiting on him as there's no T. Charline trails Becky by over $2,000 so she needs to catch up too... but a dud H will not help in that regard. On to Becky who has money ON ACCOUNT - until she BANKRUPTs right away... that $240 is cleaned out. Les tries again, and he gets an R before buying two A's - unfortunately, they're in the logical places and not much help to him. He tries to buy the E, and there are a couple of those, which come up right before the last commercial - turn your backs again!
S _ _ E R
A S / A
_ _ _ _ E
PHRASE
We're back, but we're also out of time, so Chuck will lick his finger and spin for all he's got. His spin is square between the two big spaces - but only worth $250. Les takes the first crack at the speedup, and he puts up most of the consonants, but it's Charline who gets the last J and solves:
S _ B E R
A S / A
J _ D G E
PHRASE
and she gets $250 for being SOBER AS A JUDGE!
Duds (pre-speedup): T (Les), H (Charline)
Duds (post-speedup): N (Les), L (Charline), P (Becky), F (Charline), W (Becky), M (Charline), K (Becky)
Bankrupt: Becky (lost ON ACCOUNT $240)
Charline is our last shopper of the day, and she's going to the Gourmet Counter. She buys a $238 kitchen cart and cookware, which means $12 goes on the last gift certificate.
Charline: $900
Becky: $2,810 (two-day champion with $7,860)
Les: GOOSEEGG'D
It's all over and Becky retains her title! She'll be back again on the next show to try and add even more to her coffers!
