UK Wheel of Fortune - Aired in 1998
Presented by John Leslie and featuring Jenny Powell at the letterboard, it's the British WHEEL! OF! FORTUNE!
Let's meet our players:
Nancy Ferguson, a chef manager living in Chelsea
David Brittain, a firefighter from Chesterfield
Jackie Krause, a dance enthusiast from Norfolk
ROUND 1:
I would talk about a top dollar value here, except the UK version plays for points... the top points winner at the end of the game plays the bonus round for a car or £20,000. That being said, 1,000 points is the top value all day. In this round there's also a red letter - if the player that reveals the red letter can solve on the spot, they win a £100 cash bonus.

SINGER/SONG
We also have no set order for opening of rounds - a tossup question (not puzzle, question) is asked instead. The question is "Which bird has the largest wingspan?" which David answers correctly with ALBATROSS. Thusly, he'll be spinning first and hitting 750 - but there are no G's. Jackie does even better - a 1,000-point L! After getting up an M and pair of S's, she'll be waiting a bit because she repeats the G. Nancy gets her first turn, but she calls the bad B so we're back to David. After putting up two N's, his next spin lights up the red C! He can't solve though so the £100 goes right back into John's pocket. After pairs of R's and Y's, he knows it now...

SINGER/SONG
and he's right with CARLY SIMON YOU'RE SO VAIN!
Duds: G (David), B (Nancy)
DQ: Jackie's repeated G
Now since there's no money involved, the winner of each round gets a choice of three prizes instead. David's choices are a wood display unit, 24 crystal glasses, or a pewter ice bucket with two cases of wine. He decides to take the display unit, so that's what he'll be taking home! Everyone keeps their points though, so the scores are as follows:
Nancy: 0 points
David: 2,600 points (Prize: wood display unit)
Jackie: 2,100 points
ROUND 2:
We've added a second 1,000 space and a second Bankrupt, which is dangerous since all points accumulated throughout the round are vulnerable to being cleaned out and that could make the difference between the winner and second place. We've also put a "STAR PRIZE" token on the wheel - whoever lands on it, picks it up, and solves the puzzles will win a white gold diamond split ring!

PHRASE
Here's the next tossup question - "What is the name of Edina's daughter in Absolutely Fabulous?" Jackie rings in with the correct answer of SAFFRON, so she'll get to begin the round. Her first spin is just by the Bankrupt to 200, but there's no M's at all. Nancy goes next and she doesn't avoid the BANKRUPT, but she had no points yet anyway so it's just her turn that's taken away. David will spin now, and he's building his point total with a G for 400, an H for 750, and a D also for 400... he thinks he already knows it:
H _ D G _

PHRASE
and he doesn't think it's a good strategy to HEDGE YOUR BETS... he's correct again!
Sole Dud: M (Jackie)
Bankrupt: Nancy (loss of turn)
His choices of prizes this time are a blender and bowl set, a trip for two to Paris, and a new microwave. Looking at his wife, he makes the smart choice and he's taking her to Paris!
Nancy: 0 points
David: 4,150 points (Prizes: display unit, trip to Paris)
Jackie: 2,100 points
ROUND 3:
There's a third 1,000 space on the wheel now... Plus, starting with Round 3, all points earned are doubled! The ring has been retired, but we have another "STAR PRIZE" - it's an Italian silk tie and beaded scarf! There's another nice item on the wheel - it's "Leslie's Luxury" where a player can land on the LL token, call a letter, and win a mystery prize!

FOOD/DRINK
Here comes another tossup question - "Which ex-Tory MP announced the breakup of her marriage the same week she launched her latest book, She's Leaving Home?" David doesn't even let John finish the question before ringing in with the right answer of EDWINA CURRIE. He'll spin on, and his first spin is the wedge labeled FREE SPIN, so John will hand him a token. His next spin is pretty good - 750 - but there's no F. David will use the Free Spin and go again, and he calls the G again - he's used it in every round, and this is the second out of the three that it's a dud. Jackie will go and get three letters up for a total of 2,600 points, but her fourth spin slides off the 1,000 space into BANKRUPT, cleaning out every last point. Nancy would like to get her first points of the game, but her second Bankrupt of the show is not going to do it for her. Back to David, who barely clears Bankrupt himself on his second spin, but he KO's himself with the K instead. Jackie means business now - she gets 1,000 for an S and 800 for a pair of C's - that doubles to 5,200! It'll be waiting for her because there's no W in this puzzle. Nancy finally gets her first points - double 200 for a T! She then gets FOUR R's on the doubled 500 and will solve:
R H _ _ _ R _
C R _ M _ _ _
_ N D
C _ S T _ R D
FOOD/DRINK
She's got it with RHUBARB CRUMBLE AND CUSTARD!
Duds: F (David - Free Spin used), G (David), K (David), W (Jackie)
Bankrupt: Jackie (2,600 points), Nancy (loss of turn)
Nancy has a choice of three prizes now: a stair stepper, a trip to northern Ireland, or a rowing machine. She too decides to take the trip, so we'll give it to her!
Nancy: 4,400 points (Prize: trip to Ireland)
David: 5,150 points (Prizes: display unit, trip to Paris)
Jackie: 7,300 points
ROUND 4 (Full Speedup):
Still playing for doubled points, but it's time for the speed round! Let's see the puzzle first:

PRESENTER/TV SHOW
John will spin and he hits 250, which doubles to 500! It's a tight match so every letter counts here. The tossup question is on the way - "On which day is Guy Fawkes Night celebrated?" David, the firefighter, gets in there with NOVEMBER 5, so he starts the speedup. We get a triple success followed by two triple fails, then David gets three D's but can't solve, leaving Jackie wide open for a trio of L's...

PRESENTER/TV SHOW
and she solves JILL DANDO HOLIDAY!
Duds: B (David), C (Jackie), T (Nancy), P (David), R (Jackie), F (Nancy)
Jackie (who, as it turns out, was Jenny's former tap-dancing teacher) has the choice of two Italian tables (coffee table and side table), a television set, or a settee. She picks the television, so that's her prize!
Nancy: 4,900 points (Prize: trip to Ireland)
David: 7,150 points (Prizes: display unit, trip to Paris)
Jackie: 9,300 points (Prize: television set)
Jackie will be playing for either the car or £20,000 in the bonus round!
BONUS ROUND:
Jackie takes her choice of the two envelopes, and John shows her that she's playing for £20,000!
