Nighttime Wheel of Fortune: "Some of the Greats" - Original Airdate 2/21/1995 (Season 12)
We're coming into your homes from Walt Disney World in Orlando, and we've got some familiar faces... past players competing for charity - it's the second show of Some of the Greats Week on WHEEL! OF! FORTUNE!
Let's meet the three past champions and learn about their charities:
Kelly Vaught (male), won the first show with $35,050 for the Orange County chapter of the Red Cross
David Schwacher, ex-Marine and LAPD officer supporting the Police Memorial Foundation
Monte Sternfeld, from Queens and raising money for the New York Philanthropic League
ROUND 1:
Whoever wins this game will play the Bonus Round for the $25,000 cash bonus and come back on the next show to try and add to their charity's total, just as Kelly did yesterday! $1,000 is the top dollar in this round, the Free Spin resides on the blue $300, and everything is cash this week... let's get to it!

CLUE
Kelly is looking to add to the 35 grand he already won for his cause, and he begins his second game of the week with a pair of $750 H's. Based of the position of the H's, pairs of T's and W's follow, but they're only good for $250 each. He buys a pair of I's and sells two $500 N's before breaking the streak of doubles with the singleton O and G. Kelly then buys FOUR E's and finds the $900 D, but buys the bad A with only the last word unfilled. David spins the wheel, however, the letter he chooses will do him no good - he repeated the D on the board. Monte finds the $700 wedge but does not find an R, giving it back to Kelly. He puts up an S and L before the light goes on...
G O N E / W I T H
T H E / W I N D
S E _ _ E L
CLUE
and Kelly strikes first with GONE WITH THE WIND SEQUEL for $5,050! He then proceeds to add $500 for identifying said sequel, titled SCARLETT!
Duds: A (Kelly), R (Monte)
DQ: David's repeated D
Kelly: $5,550
David: one spin, one repeated letter
Monte: one spin, one dud letter
ROUND 2:
We upgrade the top dollar to $2,500. No prize though since it's a charity week.
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
MEGAWORD
That's right, it's Megaword time, and David will begin the Megasearch. He too starts with a pair on $750 (N's), but that $1,500 does not last long... David's next spin is BANKRUPT. Monte finds the only cardboard on the wheel, namely the Free Spin, but does not get an S in order to pick it up. No D's for Kelly or C's for David, so that completes a null cycle, but Monte finds a $700 T on his second effort. Instead of buying a vowel, he chooses to spin, and that $700 will be waiting as he hits LOSE A TURN. Three R's come up for Kelly on the ensuing spin (only worth $200 each though) and then he misses with the G. David gets the last consonant, a P for $400:
_ N T R _ P R _ N _ _ R
MEGAWORD
and he will solve ENTREPRENEUR for that $400! $500 more comes his way after he uses the word in what Pat calls a semi-coherent sentence.
Duds: S (Monte), D (Kelly), C (David), G (Kelly)
Bankrupt: David ($1,500)
Lose a Turn: Monte
Kelly: $5,550
David: $900
Monte: 1 for 2 on letter calls with a Lose a Turn
ROUND 3 - $10,000 ROUND:
The Oreo wedge is a cash prize, so it will go onto the wheel and hopefully be won!
_ _ _ _ / _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ / _ _
_ _ _ / _ _ _ _ _
THING
Monte is the only one with no money for his charity at this point, so we'll have him start the round and try to rectify that. He begins with a low number and a $200 T, which lessens the sting of BANKRUPT a little. Kelly hits a Bankrupt of his own on the right side of the Oreo, while David finds a pair of $200 N's before that sliver of blackness gets him too. Monte gets $900 on a single H, then spends over half of it buying E's and O's before running into LOSE A TURN again. There's a good F but a bad D on Kelly's turn, leaving him with $200 but waiting for it to cycle back to him. David's spins keep getting better - $500 for an L, $600 for an R, and $700 for two S's gives him $2,500! Three I's take it down to $2,250, which is then Bankrupted away. Monte gets his score up with a K, M, and V, before his persistence is rewarded with the pair of B's on $900 (just ever so shy of the $3,500)! Time to solve:
K I N _ / _ _ M E S
V E R S I O N / O F
T H E / B I B L E
THING
and Monte gets on the board with the KING JAMES VERSION OF THE BIBLE and $3,500 in cash!
Sole Dud: D (Kelly)
Bankrupt: Monte ($200), Kelly (loss of turn), David x2 ($400, then $2,250)
Lose a Turn: Monte
Kelly: $5,550
David: $900
Monte: $3,500
ROUND 4 (Full Speedup):
$5,000 could make a nice payday for somebody's charity, but it's Pat who will have to hit it! He's too strong though, so all consonants in this puzzle will be worth just $300.
_ _ _ / _ _ _
_ _ _ _ / _ _ / _ _ _
_ _ _ / _ _ _ _ _
PHRASE
Kelly will start the speedup, hoping to put it away since he holds the lead. The first four calls are all pairs, and after Kelly's second letter call, he takes a wild shot...
_ _ T / H _ _
S T _ _ / _ N / H _ S
_ _ N / _ _ _ _ _
PHRASE
but he's not even close with PUT HER STUFF IN HIS DARN THING. David calls the first dud with the R, while Monte gets another pair up (W's this time). Kelly adds a single O and takes another shot at it...
_ _ T / H _ _
S T _ W / _ N / H _ S
O W N / _ _ _ _ _
PHRASE
and again he misses, this time with PUT HOT STEW IN HIS OWN... which is missing a word regardless. David gets the L at the beginning of the puzzle and tries LET HIM STEW ON HIS OWN... which is also incomplete. After the successful M call by Monte, Kelly gets the J and tries a third time:
L _ T / H _ M
S T _ W / _ N / H _ S
O W N / J _ _ _ _
PHRASE
and he's finally right with LET HIM STEW IN HIS OWN JUICE for $1,500!
Duds: R (David)
Missed Solves: two by Kelly and one by David
Kelly: $7,050 (current two-day total of $42,100)
David: $900
Monte: $3,500
Kelly will go to Bonusland and try for the extra $25,000!
BONUS ROUND:
_ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _
EVENT
RSTLNE gives Kelly four letters:
_ _ N E
_ E _ _ _ N _
EVENT
MDGI will fill in almost the entire bottom word...
_ _ N E
_ E D D I N G
EVENT
and he's got it right away with a JUNE WEDDING! That brings the total for the Orange County Red Cross chapter to $67,100 over two shows and Kelly gets to come back and play again on the next show!
