Our champ played very well, especially on the Toss-Ups. That $20K bankrupt really hurt though.

David, I wish you had won the $100K, because you were the man tonight- I knew you were good when you solved those first two T-Us quickly!
I also solved the bonus puzzle w/ RSTLNE, but not as fast as you.
Score: 9 (would've been 10 had it not been for that huge Bankrupt)

TU1&2: Both very easy puzzles... that will save a few seconds for later in the game.
R1: Triple S got left behind on this one. Not many big spins this round, as the Jackpot only got up to $7,000.
R2: Big spins early here though - the good Mystery and then $10,500 in S's! Then we get EPIC PAIN as over $20,000 is lost and we have to settle for a no-cash solve.
R3: The triple A really helped David out there, making him a KIA WINNER! Between that and the trip, he's flying out in front!
TU3: Do these really exist any more? Either way, David swept the toss-ups!
R4: Quick round, with another house-minimum finish for David.
R5: With the $500 final spin, this is officially over. I was able to solve it with just the N's, although I wonder how much longer it will be considered a landmark with the space program mostly shelved. David grabs another $3,000 to finish, while his opponents collectively only made $3,850 (counting a Pity Thousand)!
Bonus: BGHO tears this up pretty well, but GCHO is even better. Like David, I RSTLNE'd this puzzle, and he gets to double his money with another $40,000!
Overall: This one started slow but came on strong at the end. A great player leads me to an 8/10!

Tossups: Great Tossup sweep by David!
R1: Should've gone on for the S's, Kelly...
R2: Whitney's BANKRUPT was excruciating. And too early of a solve, Dave.
R3: Very nice round for Dave!
R4: I wish you gone for the P's to build up more money...
Bonus Round: I had this w/ the RSTLNE. Awesome job, Dave! You were a great player! What will you do w/ the money, BTW?
EPISODE RATING: 9 out of 10

There for a while I thought every puzzle was going to contain the word "the". I hate when they overuse "the" and "and".

House minimum solves are my personal pet peeve on this show, though I guess I can at least understand doing them defensively or at least when one already has won money (I get most peeved when a player's only solve is a house minimum and he/she would have gotten the $1,000 consolation anyways--that one girl who specifically said she wanted to avoid the "pity thousand" was the sole exception).
That said, that massive R3 and excellent BR makes for a great total still, so I'll let David off the hook for those. Great job sweeping the Toss-Ups, too!
R2 was especially painful, though, since the puzzle was definitely solvable (as David demonstrated) when Whitney hit that Bankrupt.
Edit: Perhaps David can confirm this, but it seems to me that a null cycle was edited out of the beginning of R4. I'm not one to look specifically for edits, but that one stuck out as where it looked like he was going to end up on (around the $5K/Bankrupt) was not at all what he actually ended up on.

I was able to get the bonus round puzzle myself with the RSTLNE, but I didn't know whether or not David was going to get this himself until after he chose the third consonant. Congrats to you, dsinla.
As for Whitney, I feel awfully bad for her. In fact, I wonder if she even wanted to watch tonight's episode. Despite her round two fiasco, I was really certain she was going to get on the board when she guessed the C's in the speed-up round, but my mouth hung open when I heard her say nothing.

Thanks WOFLRecapTeam! Can I just say it was a terrific, amazing experience all around. I watched the show with a big party with family and friends, then watched it again in a more quiet setting..and just now watched it again!
First question- are episodes posted online for me to refer folks to? I hadn't really looked but i figured this is the place to ask.
Thanks for all the kind words. I was definitely nervous but I think i can say i was also really having fun.
I would have loved to win the 100K but i was thrilled that it was well above the $30K
I literally paused on Elevator Operator because I too thought.. no..that's not a thing anymore.
I know I solved two puzzles with the house minimum - but you realize I got two Bankrupts in the game. For me I definitely had a 'once bitten, twice shy' kinda feel. I'd like to pretend I fully understood what I was doing when I made each decision, but as has been said a 100 times before, it's happening so quick and you are nervous and there's a dozen things to pay attention to - all of them important. I had a little plan with myself that if there were any multiple consonants I would spin even if I knew it - but I did not have the presence of mind to recognize the two G's in Gettysburg.
And with R4 - I lead the spin, get my L and E's and then get a Bankrupt. All I am thinking while the other two players are having their turns is "Please get back to me, please get back to me, please get back to me". So I had a big fear (maybe unreasonable) of losing control again. If I was sitting at home I would have it cleanly analyzed and would be saying "but there's two Ps and two Ds!!" But that's not how it feels when you're there! Once I bought the Os and knew the answer, I don't think I even considered spinning again.
It would have been nice to land on some bigger money wedges - but my cautious approach paid off. If I were giving advice to someone today, I would strongly recommend to err on the cautious side!
I don't know about a null cycle - i don't that was edited in R4 but to be honest I can't say definitively. Until I watched it tonight I had no recollection of R4 or R5! Just forget the puzzles entirely!

I was literally yelling "This guy is unstoppable!" the whole time. Also, that's 2 episodes in a row I took the time to see where the Kia was won in one round.

David, before I say anything else, good job. Now for my comments on the episode for this thread... * What's with the tropical-themed puzzles (TU1, for example)? * ELEVATOR OPERATOR? Do those even exist anymore?! (The operators; "Going up.", that sort of thing.) * The R4 puzzle feels clumsy to me. PULLED PORK would've been better. I literally paused on Elevator Operator because I too thought.. no..that's not a thing anymore. The show loves using this kind of stuff -- from 1992-95, they had an entire category called Slang which was used for arcane and nonexistent phrases.

By the way, to support my claim of being an amateur baker, I made a Wheel of Fortune puzzle board cake (with lots of help from my cousin and his fiance). Check it out: dl.dropbox.com/u/172161/wofcake.jpg

I was locally pre-empted last night, by the way.
Also, let's be honest - PULLED PORK is too short.

Whoo boy. Since I'm so late to the party, this is going to take a while to write. But I was finally able to see the show. I guess I'll start with my usual breakdown... TU1: David...how did you get this so fast?! Did you keep the theme rule in mind? Did you watch the show when that exact theme was on the air? R2: It probably would have been better to spin for at least those two G's, David (and yes, I saw what you said), but it's not a big mistake, since most contestants don't bother with gambling for double letters anyway (not that I encourage that). R3: What incredible luck, David! Winning the Kia in the Prize Puzzle round is the ultimate Golden Snitch. And on top of that, you got one of the rare trips that go outside of North America, which are usually much more expensive. Look at that total skyrocket! R4: David, what stardf29 meant by a "null cycle" was that control went around all three players without adding any letters to the board or affecting anyone's score. Judging by the camera angle of your first spin this round, surely you must remember starting the round with the Bankrupt next to $5,000 (or you landed on $5,000 and called a wrong letter. The angle changed too quick to show where exactly it would have landed). Plus, there were no T's or N's, so surely the ladies must have called those. Good job pointing that out, Star. To the recap team, could we possibly be more attentive to edits so I don't have to keep changing "DUDS" to "AIRED DUDS"? BR: More amazing play from you. Glad you won more than the $30K. Other than that early solve, I have no other criticisms for you, David. As for Whitney, it looks like you sucked all the luck from her. LOL at "my adequate cousin". When you said that you and your Grandma played "the game" a lot, what version were you referring to? Wii? iOS? Awesome cake, David! ;D ;D Hope you had fun at your party. Please stick around our forums. We love having former contestants share their input and opinions on the show. Enjoy your winnings, your Kia, and your Dubai trip! You deserve every penny. I literally paused on Elevator Operator because I too thought.. no..that's not a thing anymore. The show loves using this kind of stuff -- from 1992-95, they had an entire category called Slang which was used for arcane and nonexistent phrases. And ironically, that very well describes about half the puzzles today. So...the audience gives out lots of cheering for Whitney finding the $10K...but absolute silence for $3500...that makes NO SENSE! Those supervisors really aren't doing their jobs. At least there was still a reaction to David's second 1/2 Kia tag hit. Despite the editing, audience, and "meh" puzzles, this was still a great show made even more special thanks to us "knowing" a contestant and seeing him dominate. I feel so bad that I had to miss this.

Thanks MarioGS! I knew that the TU1 is always (99.9?) theme-related and I was banking on that. I had brainstormed a few dozen possibilities - I still have the sheet of paper (i scribbled them on the back of one of the contestant rules forms) - things like Lady Liberty and Washington Monument and Rocky Mountains, Apple Pie, Yankee Stadium. Actually I had been brainstorming Beach ideas - because the other 5 shows being taped that day were Back to the Beach theme. We drew a little lottery for our slots and i was SO disappointed that I didn't get one of the Beach shows - not to mention knowing at 10am that you were going to be the last show taped at 5pm! When the puzzle came I just saw 'California' in the second word - I live in California and with the two A's that confirmed it. Then the C came up and it just made sense. Also playing at home I mentally would buzz in at my first hunch ..it's a gamble but I think it pays off. R3: No denying getting both Kia halves was lucky. I only had $4k at that point. It was the trip and the car that made the bulk of my winnings to get me to the bonus round. R4: Now that you say that .. I thought there was a point where I got a Lose a Turn? maybe? I'm sorry but i dont recall. Like I said, i didnt even remember the solution to the last two puzzles for some reason. I'm looking at the video and trying to understand how the postion/angle of the wheel leads you to believe there was an edit? BR: I was glad too! It's horrible to say this, but i was thinking PLEASE don't let it be 30K - as though 30K is bad! I'm very happy with the 40! Looking now I do feel maybe I should have spun for more money..but.. one more bankrupt or lose a turn could have changed the whole game for me. Also I would say I was lucky that Whitney didnt solve two of those puzzles... I think many other players would have had R2 and R5 - in fact you can see me react when Whitney calls the C thinking - yep, she's got it now.. and she didn't! just handing it to me. I had planned if i got to the Bonus Round to introduce my family like everyone else does ..but seems like everyone just adds an adjective..my Beautiful wife, my Supportive mother..etc.. My cousin is a great sport and I think he got a real kick out of my assigning him the 'Adequate' adjective I told Pat my grandma - god rest her soul - and i would *watch* the show all the time and "play along" with the game. I think as far back as the first shows.. with Chuck Woolery? and the shopping for gifts. Even back then I as pretty quick with word puzzles ..she would always say "Davey you should go on that show." She would have been beaming if she could have seen it. Thanks again - you'll see me around.

Notice it slows down near the $5000, then when the angle changes at 13:42, it's suddenly cuts to the Wheel slowing down in a different area.
