Evening Wheel Watchers! Scott here, delivering you my first first-run recap... let's get right to it!
EPISODE #5562 - MILITARY SPOUSES WEEK
==============================================================
$1,000 TOSS-UP - EVENT:
_ _ _ _ C H _ T E
J _ M _
The player at the blue podium, Valarie, is the first to earn money - but all she had to do was solve this puzzle, not make a PARACHUTE JUMP!
==============================================================
CONTESTANT INTERVIEWS:
Valarie Marriott is from Brockport, NY. Her husband and high-school sweetheart Joshua is a corporal with five years of service in the Marines. He's stationed at Camp Pendleton in California, but will soon be deployed to Afghanistan.
Nathan Chapman comes to us from Houston. He's an operations specialist (first class) currently assigned to Seattle at the Vessel Traffic Center, and his wife Kim is a boatswain's mate (third class) serving a small boat station at Bellingham, Washington. He's also a volunteer driver for the American Cancer Society's Road to Recovery program.
Michelle Walters lives in Coronado, California. Her husband Craig, whom she has known since high school, is a petty officer (second class) engineman and has been a member of the Navy for five years.
==============================================================
$2,000 TOSS-UP - LIVING THING:
B L A C _ - _ Y E D
S _ S _ N
I don't suppose the military has many floral experts, but it's our serviceman Nathan who claims the cash by identifying a BLACK-EYED SUSAN!
==============================================================
TONIGHT'S FEATURED PRIZE: a HomeGoods shopping spree - $5,000
ROUND 1 (JACKPOT ROUND) - MOVIE TITLE:
Nathan has earned the right of the night's first spin, and it's the minimum value on the wheel - $300 for a single T. After buying the trio of E's, he sends the wheel past the $2,500 wedge into Bankrupt and loses the remaining $50. Michelle is up next and she finds the blue Kia tag, picking it up with one R. She buys the sole I before striking out with the S on her next spin. Valarie nearly gets the wheel to $2,500... and that would have been a great spin, since she puts up four N's at $600 each! After purchasing the remainder of the vowels and picking up the Conoco gift tag with a D, she runs afoul of the wicked white Lose a Turn. Nathan will spin once for the pair of F's and then solves:
A N / O F F I _ E R / A N D
A / _ E N T _ E _ A N
Of our three players, he's the only one that is both AN OFFICER AND A GENTLEMAN, so this is a fitting end to the round! He had $1,600 in his bank, but for this special week, the house minimum has been raised to $2,000, so that's what his total is adjusted to.
Sole Dud: S (Michelle)
Bankrupt: Nathan ($50)
Lose a Turn: Valarie
Unclaimed Jackpot: $7,500
PRE-R2 SCORES:
Nathan - $4,000
Michelle - $0
Valarie - $1,000
==============================================================
ROUND 2 (MYSTERY ROUND) - BEFORE & AFTER:
Michelle is knocked out of the round right away as she Bankrupts on the right sliver of the MDW. Valarie takes the wheel in hand and finds a $600 R and then $800 for the N. After buying five E's, she too Bankrupts, losing $1,150 near the $3,500 wedge. Speaking of the $3,500 wedge... Nathan hits it with his first spin of the round and there are FIVE T'S for $17,500! All the vowels are good in this round, and he will buy the rest of them in quick succession. There's a close call a couple spins after the big money as the wheel draws near to the Bankrupt by Free Play, but it's safely stopped at $600. Good thing, too - his next stop after that is back at the $3,500 space for the pair of V's! After adding $900 to his bank and an L to the board...
A B S E N T
_ I T _ O U T
L E A V E
I T / T O / B E A V E R
he closes out the round in a big way by solving ABSENT WITHOUT LEAVE IT TO BEAVER for $26,150 in cash!!!
Bankrupt: both ladies (Michelle a loss of turn, Valarie a loss of $1,150)
PRE-R3 SCORES:
Nathan - $30,150
Michelle - $0
Valarie - $1,000
==============================================================
ROUND 3 (PRIZE PUZZLE ROUND) - PHRASE:
Valarie takes control right away in the third round of play, starting with two T's on $900. Her spins decrease in value as her turn goes on... she just misses the Wild Card on her fifth spin and duds the S on $300. Nathan picks up the Wild Card with his first spin and a pair of P's, but misses with the M on $800 right after. This leads into four consecutive failures - Michelle repeats the N called earlier by Valarie, who Bankrupts to lose $3,000, sending it back to Nathan who Bankrupts the Wild Card, passing it back to Michelle who repeats another letter with the dud M. After this spot of trouble, which has managed to clear all the podiums, Valarie gets a couple C's on $300. The last two vowels follow - a trio of E's that were purchased and a U on Free Play - and Valarie will try to fill in the rest:
A / P E R _ E C T
P L A C E / T O
U N _ I N _
and for her, A PERFECT PLACE TO UNWIND might be the Divi Carina Bay Beach Resort and Casino at ST. CROIX! That trip, with travel provided by hotwire.com, is worth $7,980 - added to the $350 in cash she had in the round, Valarie just won $8,330!
ST. CROIX SPIN ID: CP4318013 (Cathy P.)
Duds: S (Valarie), M (Nathan)
Bankrupt: Valarie ($3,000) and Nathan (Wild Card)
DQ: two repeated letters by Michelle

Valarie - $9,330 cash and St. Croix trip
=============================================================
$3,000 TOSS-UP - FUN & GAMES:

M _ _ _ _
Nathan rings in, and his total is not MONOPOLY MONEY, it's now $33,150 in cash!
=============================================================
ROUND 4 (FULL $1,800 SPEEDUP) - SONG TITLE
Nathan starts the speed round with all consonants valued at $1,800 each... after he finds a T and Michelle gets an S, we have a potential edit. Following the cut to Pat, Valarie puts up a pair of L's, but Nathan can't hit with the H. Michelle then finds a D and Valarie goes for the solve after getting the M:
L _ _ _ S / L _ _ _
_ _ / M _ D _ / _ T
and it LOOKS LIKE WE MADE IT to the end of the show... Valarie will add $5,400 to her haul but still falls well short of Nathan's big total.
Sole Aired Dud: H (Nathan)
FINAL SCORES:
Nathan - $33,150
Michelle - GOOSEEGG ($2,000)
Valarie - $14,730 cash and St. Croix trip
MAINGAME WINNINGS: $49,880
============================================================
$100,000 BONUS ROUND - PEOPLE:
Nathan sends the wheel round and round, and it stops on the apostrophe in AMERICA'S. RSTLNE give us 5 out of 12 letters in this puzzle...
T _ E / _ _ _ L E
_ _ N _
Our serviceman will select DHM and A for his extra help...
T H E / _ H _ L E
_ A N _
In 10 seconds, we get one guess - THE WHOLE BAND. Is that the whole answer? No, were looking for THE WHOLE GANG. Is it a big amount that will not be given away...
unfortunately, the answer to that question is YES: we have OUR FOURTH $100,000 LOSS OF THE SEASON... we're 0 for 4. Still, Nathan will leave us with a nice all-cash total of $33,150!
