I found this on YouTube today...the first ten minutes of the second Edd Byrnes pilot. Enjoy!
Dan, I'll let you take it from here...

THERE'S NO NEED TO YELL. OR FOR SENSATIONALISTIC HEADLINES. Sorry. I was just excited and yeah, that was kind of immature. Won't happen again.

Still, this is an epic-level discovery. I hope the rest is posted soon, if this user holds the whole thing!

I'm sure everyone noticed the center of the Wheel change color. I wonder why they decided to do that. And what we thought was the round one Wheel was the round two Wheel! I mean, look at how the color pattern, especially the first few wedges clockwise of the Bankrupt resembled the same pattern of the 1975 round one Wheel!
Also, before you guys criticize Ed for spinning puzzles and solving Wheels, Pat made a similar slip on the first All-Cash episode from 1987, when he said that for round 2, there would be "a $2500 space on the puzzle," although he obviously did it far less in many years than Ed had done in two days, I'll admit.
And I just noticed that he has his twos and threes mixed up because he said the total value on the round one Wheel was $4335 when it was only $4225.
However, the biggest error was when those three L's were put up. Instead of Tanya getting $675, she got $775 instead.

Dan, I'll let you take it from here... I think I speak for everyone when I say this: Some notes, in no particular order: * Chuck Donegan has not only these first 10 minutes, but Shopper's Bazaar (henceforth known as "Pilot #1") and the first Byrnes pilot (henceforth known as "Pilot #2"). Don't know about you, but those are freaking tantalizing. * The clips shown on the ceremonial 3,000th nighttime show are clearly from Pilot #2. * The opening of the '75 premiere ends like the opening of this pilot, so I'm willing to bet it was just held over (but don't quote me on that). * What a weird (and oddly specific) money graphic. There's also a ring of lights above the Wheel, which I don't think was present (or at least not visible) on the premiere. * And Byrnes? Yeah, he's drunk. As for the Wheel itself, take everything we thought we knew and blast it with an AK-47. The Round 1 layout has no Buy A freaking Vowel and $350 as top dollar. Random top value is really random. More to come as I actually watch the thing. Okay, I'm back. * There's no "puzzle reveal" chimes, although given that they used the same shot on the premiere, it may not have been there either (and this would confirm that Pasetta wasn't kicked out after this pilot). The dings and buzzer are still present, though, so they clearly predate Alan Thicke's involvement. * The chroma-key center changes with each spin? Interesting, but kind of pointless. * Oddly, the score displays aren't color-coded -- they're white, as they'd eventually change back to. * Thanks for not pointing out the Buy A Vowel wedge, Edd. Oh, and look! The thing's already redundant! * Finally, I know Edd was drunk, but he seems to at least be enjoying himself here. (Then again, this is apparently the "happy drunk" pilot.)

Another error I noticed was that the first two rounds were started by the same player.

Another error I noticed was that the first two rounds were started by the same player. Not quite an error, Mark, as Edd says, Red won R1, so she'd start the 2nd round because of that. Glad that was changed, kind of a broken mechanic. This was fascinating, and Byrnes was clearly drunk here; he admitted as such in his autobiography. Spin the puzzle, well, I mean you can spin your plate of spaghetti down at the dinner table, but... yeah. This, along with hitting on Red right before the shopping, the commanding of players, "Wheee!!", and the forcefulness of Red to take the brass bed are not good signs. Upon watching this a 2nd time, when viewing the shopping list (good idea) the car is notably not the most expensive item, at $3500, but rather a fur coat (surprisingly not shown!) is at $5,000. Doubly notable because, well, those are prominent values on the wheel today. Can't help but wonder if that's where those figures came from, eventually. On a related note, how were either of those supposed to be won, though, even if you put everything on account? With maxes of $350 (!?) and $500 on the wheel, and with puzzles of that length, rounds 3 and 4 better have been long puzzles. I infer 4 rounds due to a 'commercial' break after each round; the start of the clip shows 4 acts or segments. Fun fact: The 2nd round puzzle solution is SPAGHETTI, which would be a decent 1-word BR puzzle today. Really, really hope we get more, but this uploader is awesome; thank you! EDIT: One last thing, why didn't Susan turn that last letter revealed in the R1 puzzle? Tech error? Laziness? To be used in a later puzzle, in that same spot? Daniel, you know old Wheel better than me, but when I saw that Buy a Vowel wedge, it looked, well, darker than I'm used to seeing Buy a Vowel. Was it always that dark of a red (in comparison to other reds around this era)?

With maxes of $350 (!?) and $500 on the wheel, and with puzzles of that length, rounds 3 and 4 better have been long puzzles. There were four rounds played on each pilot (Mike Burger saw both), with Rounds 3 and 4 apparently having top values of $750 and $1,000 respectively. Daniel, you know old Wheel better than me, but when I saw that Buy a Vowel wedge, it looked, well, darker than I'm used to seeing Buy a Vowel. Was it always that dark of a red (in comparison to other reds around this era)? Absolutely no idea. Might be the crappy lighting. (Oh, and I completely forgot Byrnes' drunken advances towards the contestant. Gee, I wonder why? )

* The chroma-key center changes with each spin? Interesting, but kind of pointless. I'm betting that held over to the premiere too. The close up picture of the Buy a Vowel space shows that the center is dark blue while it's supposed to be green. Btw, does Chuck Donegan have a YouTube account?

Btw, does Chuck Donegan have a YouTube account? I personally don't know, and even if he did it wouldn't be right to badger him on it. Asking politely ("Noticed you have the pilots for Wheel of Fortune. Could you upload those? If not, that's fine -- just an idea. "), sure. Speaking from a non-subjective viewpoint, they'd be wonderful research items and worth at least a mild dose of good-natured ribbing -- the concept of hoarding benefits very few, whereas sharing benefits everyone. I'm sure someone could trade for Shopper's Bazaar, the first Byrnes pilot, the Tomarken Monopoly pilot, and the 12/73 Three On A Match...but that won't be me, as I've been out of the trading habit for a long time and I'm ill-equipped to start up again. Honestly, at this point I'm thinking this is going to be the last we hear of these things.

I had a feeling that eventually, we would see something from one of the Byrnes pilots after Shopper's Bazaar was uploaded.
Even with only this much revealed, Edd's intoxication is clearly showing, with "take at the look at the puzzle!" and "go shopping or guess the puzzle" (you can only go shopping after correctly doing the latter), as well as Tanya getting $100 more for her Ls than she should have.
The opening appears to be truncated, as Charlie is already describing the prizes when the intro starts. Wouldn't there be at least a introduction beforehand?
A recollection from Don Del Grande claims that the top-dollar-value setup was $250/$500/$750 on the earliest episodes, with $500/$750/$1000 used later in 1975, and the hour-long episodes using $500/$1000/$1500 on the half-hours (which was also in use on 6-7-1976).
I wonder if the font used for the money graphic on this pilot was also used on the premiere (if there was one used on that) (instead of the more familiar one used from 1976-92)?
Both of the Byrnes pilots were taped on the same day (8-28-1974).

So what conclusions have you come up with about Buy a Vowel, Daniel? Do you think it was redundant during its entire run?
It seems possible, but unlikely, that it was changed to having to land on it to make the purchase at some point during its life.

It's clear the thing was redundant in '74, and MarioGS told me that it was still redundant on the '75 premiere (but when I went all Carl Caruso and told him to back that fact, he pretty much said "Forget I said anything."). I can't lightly dismiss the decades-old recollections on ATGS and Invision, either.
The July 15 and August 29, 1975 episodes exist in audio form, but the only place I know that has them puts a $75 pricetag on each (last I checked). Had they been in video form, I'd have paid the money long ago.
The 1975 board games require landing on Buy A Vowel to do just that, so either A) there was a change by the time $25-$50-$75 were kicked out and the gift certificates were added or B) Milton-Bradley was trying to fix what was broken.
(Another thing about the First Edition box: there's no doors at center stage.)
Basically, there's too many gaps and variables to know for sure.

I'm sure that there's more than one member on this board that would like us to obtain those episodes. Why don't we have a donation or something? If six member gave $25, we'd have both episodes. I know I could do that, but it would have to go through PayPal.

You've said several times that you're rather low on funds and can't really shell out for those kinds of things. Thanks for reminding me. It's not that I'm "low on funds", per se, it's that I can't afford to set aside $150 for them. I'm sure that there's more than one member on this board that would like us to obtain those episodes. Why don't we have a donation or something? If six member gave $25, we'd have both episodes. I know I could do that, but it would have to go through PayPal. I'd have to get a new estimate from Archival Television Audio, Inc. -- the last one I got was on July 19, 2011, so things might have changed since then. Also, this page regarding fees (if the tape is old, low quality, unmastered, etc.) specifies that there are three methods of payment: check, money order, or cash. (Mods, I suggest this discussion be moved to a more fitting section.)

Just a bump to say I got a quote, and I'll just quote the email below. The email had a lot of bold lines that don't translate into a quote box (at least here), but I copied over some of the colors and underlines (not all of them; not yet, at least). Also, the email was much "taller" than this, and I've condensed where possible: tl;dr -- they still cost $75 each. But hey, at least I got a more up-to-date revision.

But it looks like if one gets both of them at once, they can get a 25% discount, totaling $112.50 plus tax and shipping if applicable.

^The $112.50 charge is for unattended recordings ("will NOT be edited, de-noised or processed, and sections may contain occasional audio glitches or slight imperfections. It is an unattended straight transfer dub") to VHS tape.
The full $150 means the dub "will be processed with all audio glitches and minor imperfections, originally transmitted or recorded at the time of the original broadcast, edited out. The sound will be personally monitored and equalized (tone, and slight level adjustments), and de-noised, if necessary (reduced extraneous hum during silent passages...transitions, etc.)" to audio cassettes.
And there's no digital dubs.

Apologies for the bump, but I don't see any issue with passing around the hat so one person won't have to cough up the whole $150 on their own...my question is, how would the money be collected? (Send check/money order to whoever will be placing the order through ATA, set up a PayPal account to collect the donations, etc.)
