On R1, I didn't realize the movie actually had "THE AMAZING" in it. (I also said "The Amazing World of Gumball" but it didn't fit. ) However, I got R4 with just the R's.

He is in the studio the whole time, hiding in his little curtained-off box (like in the Wizard of Oz!) He comes and talks to the audience inbetween shows. Then why does all other sound cut off once he talks (such as his response to Pat right before the Jackpot plug)? ... And why is he in a curtained-off box? (EDIT: No, I'm not questioning your honesty, Sanam; I'm questioning why Jim sounds like post-production when he was clearly there.)

I'm not sure why the sound cuts off- but ... are you questioning whether or not I'm telling the truth? I don't know the answer to your second question either...although I seem to remember an episode in which the camera actually swings around to show him in his curtained-off box. I promise I didn't hallucinate his presence during WATW or during my standby week in Feb (which happened to be The Exotic Far East)

Yay, new season! I love the new graphics, myself. Matt sure made things interesting with his various reactions... his enthusiasm might have even rubbed off a bit on the normally-placid studio audience. I like the timer graphic they added to the Bonus Round... too bad that, with the puzzle being that easy and Matt being a good enough solver for it, we couldn't really see it in action.

They did that on 3/16/12. Pat said that Jim "is sitting in a little 2-foot-by-3-foot cubicle alone, but he's having a ball", and they showed him. Jim never sounds "cut off" to me.

I'm pretty sure I remember one Pat & Vanna talk where they show Charlie in the curtained-off box also. It's just probably sound quality things.
That said, I doubt every single line Jim says is live either.

The wild card is no longer on the $900. It is now next to the top dollar value. It's $500. The wild card does not cover one of the $700 spaces.
Merged consecutive posts. Ethan -- stop doing this or you'll be banhammr'd.

Sorry, guys, but I actually haven't watched the premiere episode yet. I do have it DVR'd, so I'd like to watch it tonight. Hopefully, I'll have some worthwhile perspective to offer aside from the comments already made.

Sure! From what I understand, my friend Mary Beth (who you will see on Wednesday's game) was studying letter frequencies and helped Matt learn them as well before they started taping. Apparently W is the 4th most common letter to start a word... Which is why he chose it. He thanked her after the show! What it sounds like to me is that Mary Beth studied all words in general, which is OK I guess, but it's not studying for Wheel of Fortune, especially on its BRs when we *know* they go out of their way when they want to defend against some basic word tendencies. Here's the efficiency chart for W in the BR last season: The top of the fraction is how many times it was called when it was a dud, single etc., bottom covers all times called and not called. So no one wasted W as a pick last season. But in general it was only a good call 59/195 times, or just over 30%. To be a double like it was last night (and we can roughly say any double W in the BR greatly helps the chances of winning), well, 7 is less than 5% of BRs! It seems like a very risky call to me, where those 3 times it was called were probably fairly easy BRs where you could be fairly confident it would show up (which could apply to last night too, but it sounds like he actually was a usual CDMAH guy who after talking it up with a person who had studied pre-show decided to make one change). I don't want to definitively conclude anything, but clearly Pat thought he knew it right away. Maybe the idea of W in his head did help him achieve that. But I'm going to say it was all a good deal of luck instead.

Well, I have to type this again since I made a mistake with hitting the post button... my apologies in advance for this tedious mistake.
I saw the Saturday rerun and noticed that the letters were in fact revealed little by little. But in this recap, it's not listed that way. Can anyone explain to me what "null cycle" and "full $--- speed up" mean? Here's the video that I recorded:

^ "Null cycle" means that they edited out three consecutive wrong letters, which is often masked by a jump cut to Pat. Notice how they jump cut to him right after the Final Spin stops, and again right before Matt calls the A — those are where the "null cycle"s were.
"Full X Speed-Up" was Andy's way of denoting that the round began as a Speed-Up, with X as the value of the Final Spin.

^ Would they use a jump cut to Pat to mask him landing on a non-cash space on the Final Spin (and the resulting edit from him having to re-spin)?

^ Final Spin edits always take the form of the wide shot showing one part of the Wheel but the closeup showing another. And in this case, both the wide and close-up shots match.
Also, this was a Round 4 that began as a Speed-Up, meaning that Pat's Final Spin is usually in the neighborhood of $5,000 or a couple wedges to the right (since the Wheel is preset before Round 4 so that the yellow arrow is on $5,000).
