Just like Monday, I reallllllllly don't know about that judging decision. We couldn't chalk it up to pronunciation of a non-name word and move on? Perhaps they are sensitive to common slang shortenings like -IN' ... but it essentially decided the game.

This has been a kinda bizarre week- we've had a couple debatable rulings by the judges, including tonight's to close out the next-to-last maingame round. That reminded me of the "BLOWIN' IN THE WIND" missolve from the Aussie version; in tonight's case, it was a reverse variant of that error (back in Australia, the G was added by the contestant). Tough break for Renee.
I'm happy Amy solved the bonus puzzle I knew w/ RSTLNE, but this was one of those times where I didn't want the car to be won, because she only had $2,900 in cash prior to the BR.

R3: The ladies, assuming they knew it, shouldn't have kept spinning. Probably that "you must start your turn by spinning" misconception again. R4: Ouch. The show is receiving a lot of complaints about this, and it seems they've lost some regular viewers because of it. I figured this would happen. It happened once on the Australian version ("BLOWIN' IN THE WIND", contestant said "BLOWING"). Personally, I would have been OK with either ruling. Isn't "A-swimmin'" more commonly sung, though? They probably should have just wrote it with the apostrophe to avoid having this happened. People are saying Renee's accent is to blame... What I want to know is, as the audience applauds for the wrong answer, who screamed offstage (0:19 in Wayoshi's video)? Didn't sound like an audience member cheering... At least the round ended OK with Amy going for all the consonants. BR: H and O were the key letters here. Good work. I have to agree with the majority of the audience that Vanna looks better with her hair in back. Rating: 6/10EDIT: Final maingame totals if Renee had been ruled correct... Renee: $12,050 Amy: $9,500 Scott: $9,100

Tonight's round 4 mishap reminds me of this moment on Aussie Wheel, only vice-versa.
Had it not been for tonight's blow-up, it would very likely have been Renee who went to the bonus round.

Once again, have to chime in on the controversial call. Backstage, as we went through the categories, we were specifically told on SONG LYRICS, SONG TITLES, and PHRASES (among others) that we had to read the answer EXACTLY as it appeared on the board, even if it wasn't complete or grammatically correct (for example, "Blowin' in the Wind" or "You Ain't Nothin' but a Hound Dog"). The coordinators even emphasized this when they read through a few sample puzzles.
That said, I actually agree with this call, for the simple reason that Renee's answer was NOT the EXACT and COMPLETE answer they wanted. However, I will grant the fact that some people sing "Seven Swans a-Swimmin'" as opposed to "Seven Swans a-Swimming." Still, the onus lies on the contestant to pay attention to the puzzle board and err on the side of caution when pronouncing answers (in fact, we were told to over-enunciate...here, putting an extra punch on the ING would've saved her). Easy mistake to make, though, and it happens to the best of players.

Tossups: Great job by Renee on all three of them.
R1: The Jackpot should have been claimed the moment Renee called those S's.
R2: Consonativity by Scott -- there were' S's and Y's to be called for.
R4: Renee may be from the South, but that was a bad mistake by her. Say the puzzle exactly as it appears, not change anything in the answer.
Bonus Round: I was able to get this w/ RSTLNE. Nicely done by Amy, but like Bobby M, I wasn't expecting the Jeep to be won again since she had very little cash.
Oh, and the three straight car hits so far this week remind me of a week from early 28 -- the Mercedes C300 was landed on for all of The Good Life Week. I doubt we're gonna land on the Jeep for the rest of the week.

In that case, since it was miscategorized, if they said the same thing backstage on this taping day, could there have been a case to throw out this puzzle?

R4 was terribly miscategorized. Living Things? What's next, Sitting on the Dock of the Bay as "What Are You Doing?" I guess I should look out for A Few Good Men as "People."
I don't mind them being cute from time to time with the categories and puzzles, but something about this rubbed me the wrong way. I guess by giving it another category, they'd throw contestants off long enough to force a final spin in Round 4 if time permits. That didn't happen tonight, but it certainly seems that way.
In the end, I'd guess that I can't fault the judges completely on this one, but honestly, if they're going to let a full missolve slide, they need to define some lines. Icky situation tonight.
Oh and I suppose the person yelling was whomever Renee had brought with her to the taping and was cheering thinking she had the puzzle.

All in all, I think this should have been categorized as SONG LYRICS. Even so, regardless of the category, the answer does need to be read EXACTLY as it appears, even if there are variations. I would say that there's no case to toss out a puzzle.
It's like I tell my students: sometimes, it will be tricky, but if you pay attention and look carefully, you avoid the tricks. Easier said than done, I know, but good Wheel players (just like good test-takers) can stay calm and composed enough to take their time and answer carefully. Still, a bit of a mess...too easy to get flustered over something like that. Plain and simple: getting flustered = not having fun on stage = not fun to WATCH you on stage.

R4 is a repeat. I remember no-lettering it back in 2004ish (I think it was on John Holder's episode).

It leaves you feeling gross to say that the debatable missolve decided the game, but in my opinion it's pretty clear that it was one.
The reason being she tried to correct it quickly afterwards, even adding "I'm from Florida", like the show would give preferential treatment to somebody from the Sunshine State.
She knew she had made a mistake and was trying to fix it, but unfortunately the buzzer had sounded before she got a chance to.
Normally in these situations I would side with the contestant, as it ends up with the show looking poorly to make a close call against them.
The puzzle is also terribly miscategorized, but I guess that's another issue.

Yeah, that was one of the odder mis-solves I've seen in R4. At least Amy picked good letters to make short work of the BR. (And that Jeep is coming up an awful lot...)

The coordinators even emphasized this when they read through a few sample puzzles. Translation: "We can mis-quote the puzzles and make up whatever Phrases we want, but even if you know how it actually goes you have to say it as we wrote it." That was the very same thing said by the contestant coordinators at Donnymid, which let them get away with crap like Things On A Cave Wall and refusing to accept the "essence" of the answer. (It's also why Osmond never bothered to give any post-mortem clues or question the judge.) Who was responsible for that travesty again...? Oh, that's right -- Friedman. That said, I actually agree with this call, for the simple reason that Renee's answer was NOT the EXACT and COMPLETE answer they wanted. As has already been pointed out, this was a Living Things puzzle that should've been Song Lyrics. For most puzzles, Wheel does (or at least did) allow a bit of leeway. Wheel just loves to dick around with its contestants, huh?

Allow me to make one thing clear: I also thought the categorization was poor. If it were me, I'd classify it as SONG LYRICS. I still agree with the call, though, as it has been a rule since Day One: the puzzle must be solved EXACTLY as written.
EDIT: As I've said before, I concede that some people say "A-Swimmin'" and some say "A-Swimming." The writing was a little deceptive here, but the contestant coordinators were on our side when they told us the rules, told us to phrase our answers CAUTIOUSLY, and reminded us to pay attention to the puzzle board. It's a hard pill to swallow when you make a simple mistake like that, yes, but you've got to learn from it and move on.

Especially with the title "wheel o fortune screw job". I have a feeling it may because I use "WoF" and "TPiR", which is harder to search for. But I feel like it's too long to use the whole thing, so I live with it.

Ugh, it's on the front page of AOL now, too. -__-' Now the show's going to get even more condemning...
It's really sad that Wheel only seems to get media publicity for stuff that makes the show look bad...The majority response is that the ruling was too strict and that she should have won, along with a lot of inappropriate remarks toward Pat...
But this kind of judging sometimes happens on "Jeopardy!", and nobody ever condemns the show...

The producers and the judges and of course the legal team are the ones that hold the power. Would Renee have the guts to even sue the show? Probably not, the odds are against her just because of how powerful the legal team at Sony is. But we've seen on both Wheel and Jeopardy that contestants have been called back to play again due to rulings that could have impacted the outcome of the game. So if it hasn't already happened lets hope she's been offered the chance to come back and play again.
Sorry to go off topic but I wonder if they would pay your travel expenses if they called you to come back and play due to an unfavorable ruling.

If Renee really felt that she was wronged, she probably would have demanded a re-shot round, but she seemed to be understanding towards the call.
