Well, she may not have quite won the BR, but Leanne just nearly won everything else- the maingame record was finally broken tonight!!!
And to think, if she had called those L's while on $3.5K to start that Mystery Round, she would've had close to $100K!
I knew the bonus puzzle w/ RSTLNE & tried to telepathically sent it to her, but w/ just $30K extra on the line, it just wasn't bound to happen. Oh well.

Well, what else can be said - excellent maingame, one of the best. Although it was somewhat straightforward how it occurred - I really want to see a septuple or more on big money sometime.
As for the BR... wasn't AT THE BUZZER used very recently? Maybe late last season? For that reason only, I have a feeling this record maingame made them feel like they were forced to dip into the very hard folder, because otherwise I just don't see them essentially reusing a puzzle so soon. It would be really unfortunate that they felt that way, but I'm sure 6 letters from a speed-up puzzle with only doubles was unexpected. Fortunately it was just 30k, less than half the amount of pure cash Leanne did win.

R2: Wow, lots of great multiples here! R4: Very intense and big round, but this puzzle was kind of contrived... $69K?!  BR: H WASTED!  What a cruel puzzle!  Good thing that amount wasn't enough for her to break $100K, though. The only amount, actually. "HIT THE BAKER...BUTCHER..." How rude!  Can contestants please stop spinning the top wedges at the start of rounds so the audience will actually react to them? Thanks. Though the groan at the BR was quite heartfelt, at least. Moreso than the fake ones. Glad I didn't watch the promo until after the show was over. Both the 9 L's and the score of $69,300 were spoiled. Shame on you, Wheel. That kind of stuff should be uploaded after the week is done, not before. Very happy for Leanne.  Wonder how many people tuned in tonight hoping for another "strict judgment" so they could boycott the show. (Some people went as far as to call it a publicity/ratings stunt because people don't watch Wheel anymore) Rating: 7/10

So this is the most money won in the main game? What was the previous record? I hated that the spoiled tonight with the promo. Like Pat said if you've won almost $70,000 in the main game and don't go on to win $30,000 in the bonus round you really won't be feeling any pain. It would have been nice but you'd think most people would try but wouldn't care. Good for her!

You're actually referring to ON THE BUZZER. They used AT THE BUZZER on 6/2/11. I thought that was a dumb puzzle since ON is far more common at least to me. |

Despite the BR loss, this was a great show!
R1: Too bad for Eric that this is one of the rare times in the main rounds that the E is a dud.
R2: Leanne could have called the L's right away on $3,500, but $20,250 is still a great payoff (inclduing that $10K MW)!
R3: I would've went w/ those D's, but Leanne still builds up a very hefty lead!
R4: I had this feeling Lauren Kaufman's $66,350 (October 24, 2005) would finally be broken, and boy did Leanne really deliver big time!!!
Bonus Round: Man, that was tough w/ those double Z's. I was closer w/ HIT THE BUFFER. Thank goodness Leanne's envelope wasn't the Jeep or the big one --$69K+ is very impressive for 20 minutes of work! I highly doubt the future players will top that, but we'll see in the years to come for this show. Very nice job, Leanne!
H isn't much of a waste since the first word could've been OUT.

Toss Ups: First one seems a little contrived. Eric repeats what Pat said in the interview...not a good idea. Eric also needed to wait for more letters in those last two words - he practically gave Leanne more info.
R1: Had it when the Jackpot was spun! Leanne played the round very well and solved it exactly like we were taught backstage! No multiples left behind.
R2: Spoiled from the video, but I no-lettered this one. It would've been a coup for Leanne if she thought to say L on the $3,500 space, but still nice to see a record-tying NINE letters in one puzzle (In 1999, PETER PIPER PICKED A PECK OF PICKLED PEPPERS was used, with 9 Ps). Risky move on the Mystery Wedge, but it paid off! I can understand leaving a couple multiples behind here...it helped her surge into the lead!
R3: Good round for Leanne to pad her lead, but if the circumstances were right, I'd have probably gone for the car.
R4: Nice way to round out the week with a $6K Final Spin! I had the puzzle when the B came up. I was hoping Leanne would say M and get the win in solid fashion!
BONUS: Anything but the $100K would've been an afterthought. I had HIT THE, but the use of Zs was just nasty. She needed to post something more in the last word. Oh well, can't be too upset when you've let $30,000 slip away when you already had $69,300 to take back to the Tar Heel State!
Also, if Leanne had won $35,000 or more in the Bonus Round, would she be the only person to win $100,000 or more WITHOUT hitting the $100,000 since that prize was introduced?
OVERALL: Night and day difference here! Leanne's performance sent the audience home in a better mood, I'll bet (unless it was a six-episode date). Leanne was dominant, had excellent spirit, and paid very close attention backstage and on stage. Every dollar of hers was well-earned. A solid 9/10.

Actually, I think the record is 10: THREE LITTLE KITTENS THEY LOST THEIR MITTENS was a puzzle not too long ago. And for vowels, they've used PLEASE LEAVE A MESSAGE AFTER THE BEEP at least twice. |

R1: Aww, sorry to see the dud E stop Eric. I thought Leanne did well here, though. R2: Whoa, what a round for Leanne! Ooh, if she had called the L on $3500, that would've been something. Very gutsy move to go for the Mystery, but glad to see it paid off for her! And a really nice round total too, over 20 grand! TU3: Yay, for once they actually didn't borrow a line from the 12 Days of Christmas. R4: Great to see another $6K Speed-Up! Leanne didn't look so confident when she called the M, but it sure paid off for her in a huge way! YAY, a new maingame record!! ;D I was kinda expecting Pat to say something like "Wanna stop and go home or play the Bonus Round?" I remember he's done that before. BR: I was just as stumped as Leanne was here. Thought her answers were mean, but kinda funny too. Would've been nice to see her win the $30K, but she still ends up with a great total! Well, aside from the rather tricky BR, this was a fantastic episode! Leanne played a great game here.

Toss-Ups: That buzz by Eric on TU3 was WAY premature... you've got to know the whole thing and not just half.
R1: Embellished puzzles: when two words just doesn't cut it. This one's pretty short on multiple consonants, so it took some work to earn that $4,150 in cash.
R2: Seriously, writers? Given the theming and the pattern, I easily no-lettered this because I knew what to look for - it took maybe three seconds, tops. The massive multiplication given by repeated lyrics (like NINE L's for a total of $5,400) plus a good Mystery flip makes this a $20,000-plus round!
R3: Leanne takes advantage of the dud by Connie and the Bankrupt from Eric to take this round. She only gets $100 in cash, but that pales in comparison to the trip's value, which in turn pales in comparison to her current total... she's over $30,000!
R4: Thanks to a big spin by Pat, this isn't over just yet though. I was able to semi-no-letter this one (got it as Vanna was heading for the L's) and was able to watch as Leanne better than doubled her score! With a win of at least $35,000 in cash or the Jeep, she could make $100,000 the hard way! The others leave with just toss-up money, which for Connie is the False Dignity Thousand from TU1.
Bonus: The evil Z denies us a win, but it wouldn't have been enough for the hard six-figure win.
Overall: Lazy writing drops this a bit, but Leanne really carried the show, all the way to a sizzling 9/10! The hard-way $100,000 would've been a 10 in my book.

But the "Biggest Win" remark was followed by Pat's "$69,300", so it was made pretty obvious that they meant biggest maingame winnings, plus he would have been holding up the MDW like he always does before it's taken to the BR.

I'll tell you, although there wasn't a chance I would've gotten the bonus puzzle, I will honestly tell you that I got the round 2 puzzle only seconds after it was introduced. I knew L was the perfect letter for her to guess when she landed on $3500. I didn't know how many at first until she guessed it. Despite being the math buff that I am, I had to use a calculator to quickly figure out that she could've scored $31,500 ([$3500*10]-$3500).

I did a little math myself, for I had wondered what Leanne's total would have been concerning the Wheel layout used last season. Since she hit the pink $900 in R1, that would have given her the Wild Card and $0 last season, and since she hit $3500 at the start of R2, I assumed that Pat would have prompted her to use it, which she would have for the H, and I just moved back each subsequent consonant call for each spin (meaning the 9 L's would have $400 each). Everything after that was the same (orange $300 and $6K for Final Spin), which all added up to $68,300, just a grand less.

I like your thinking, MarioGS. Here's another thought I had. Was it a big win on tonight's show that the Mayans were expecting?  Well, whether or not that was the case, it still made a heck of an episode for my dad's 54th birthday. Maingame record. It goes to show how much money the show has given away so far. I wouldn't be surprised if this season is close to matching Season 26's giveaway, but needless to say, a Million Dollar win this season would smash that season. I recall Harry Friedman said he wanted to give away more money before season 26 started. This season, he is really getting his wish by offering cash with prizes and tokens. |
