Yeah, unfortunately, it's a bit of an inconsistency, and it appears that some contestants have paid the price. If your buzzer doesn't go off right away, your instinct is to hammer away at it, which doesn't work. It's a difficult balancing act to resume the Toss-Up and reactivate the buzzers at the same time. I did Quiz Bowl all four years of high school, and we dealt with buzzers like that all the time. It all comes down to timing.
