I want to go the NYC tapings with a big sign to hold up. I did one 5 years ago, but now that my graphic design skills have improved, I'd like to put them to good use and try something different. Here is a rough design of what I might make: Any comments or suggestions for improvements? I couldn't really think of a good "message" to put on the sign. Again, this is just a draft. I was thinking of putting shiny star stickers in the blank areas. This all has to fit on a 20"x30" piece of foamboard.

I suggest putting the green center in the Wheel*, and rotating said Wheel a bit to make $650 visible so people know it's the current layout. I was thinking of putting shiny star stickers in the blank areas. This all has to fit on a 20"x30" piece of foamboard. Not sure how well this would work, but how about the star from the Star Bonus token? (* Maybe with the '74 or '85 logo in the center?)

I was going to rotate the Wheel a tad (I didn't for the draft) for the final thing. Not just the $650 tells people it's the current layout, though, and I want $5000 to show, so that wedge would probably end up hidden.
As for the stars, I'm just going to see if they sell star stickers in varying colors and sizes that I can just peel off and stick on there.
And a lot of the graphics are going to be printed out on sticket paper, so I don't want to use too much printer ink, but I'll think about the green center. Once I get started on it, I'll post pictures of my progress.

Definitely a very well thought design, Mario! I'd suggest filling in the center, too, keeping it solid green. If you're looking for sticky stars in various colors, just about any educational supply or crafts store will sell them in small sizes, but you might be able to find larger sizes.

OK. I'll keep the center. And yes, I will be making a trip to the crafts store soon. I'm planning on tracing the logo letters on shiny paper and cutting them out.
But what I'm mainly concerned about is the message on the sign. Can anyone think of anything better to say?
(I was also considering adding this forum's URL to the bottom, but that might get me thrown out at worst)

(I was also considering adding this forum's URL to the bottom, but that might get me thrown out at worst) Nah, getting thrown out (for plugging your website) and banned (for plugging this website*) is the worst-case scenario**. *and/or the History Wiki **well, absolute worst is the aforementioned plus getting the site(s) C&D'd

Thinking of something to add? How about a play on the famous "I (heart) NY" design? Maybe something like "NY (heart) Wheel"?

That's a great idea, Jonathan! I think I'll go with that! But what about all the space around it? Any Wheel stuff anyone can think of? I was thinking of putting "KEEP ON SPINNING" at the bottom in the logo font, but that would still leave the space on the sides and top.

Not bad! I'd say make the "NY (heart) Wheel" a little bigger, then place "KEEP ON SPINNING!" either on the bottom, or move the logo slightly toward the top, and have a smaller puzzle board with "KEEP ON SPINNING!"

What if you extracted the golden circle logo from the season 28 logo and put that as the wheel's nose?

^I like that, but with the current R4 layout. Or the current R1 layout, if you want to truly go old school-ish. My suggestion: replace the Wheel with the current "backdrop" logo for BAV (the one behind the posts and ads, not the one at the top). It's got a classic-modern style with the title very legible; just enlarge "NY" and the heart with a bit of moving them to fit the logo, and there you go. /I'm so old school (one-two one-two) //the school was closed down! (one-two one-two)

How about a "Wheel Through The Decades" wheel? (with permission from wheelgenius): Or one with tokens from each era?

This is what I have now... Now the special wedges/tokens look odd with that placement. Can anyone think of a better way to implement wedges and/or the puzzleboard? I'd like it to be a bit more colorful and attention-grabbing.

What about having a puzzle strip at the bottom that says WELCOME BACK WHEEL!
Also, if you've got a bit of time on your hands, what if you printed the wedges out on cardboard and made some of them with glitter (ex Wild Card)? That will make it look even more realistic, and the cardboard will make it pop out.

If anything, I might add that in the Wheel logo font, but what bothers me is the "stacked" arrangement of the wedges. I want to fill in the space on the sides better.

Just out of curiosity, are you going to do anything to yourself, like wearing a t-shirt you made? Thinking about it now, would it be cool to go there with a homemade nametag with your name on it?

Yes, I was planning to wear a custom T-shirt I have. I don't think I'm going to wear a nametag, though.
Let's try to stay on topic about the sign, though.

I'm not all that great when it comes to designing stuff, so the wedge layout I couldn't suggest. Although, you mentioned you were going to put stars. Would that maybe make the ensemble look a little less 'awkward'?

Probably not. It would just add a bit of shine...
