I did a search for game show themes on Google and found an old (2007-2008) thread on G-R where somebody asked if there were any music cues or sound effects from game shows that made them cringe when they were younger. Being a somewhat noise-sensitive person still at 23, I thought I'd make my own thread like it here. (They don't have to come from Wheel, hence what this thread is doing in Mr. Irrelevant.) Here are mine: - Add me to the list of people in that thread that were scared of the Family Feud strike buzzer—I was so scared of it that I spent an entire episode hiding in the bathroom.
- The buzzers from TPiR and the Wesley Eure version of Finders Keepers (when they ran out of time to buzz in) were bothersome to me, too.
- The 1983-1989 WoF puzzle solve cue to some extent. It was retired before I was born and I was first exposed to it during GSN reruns, so it didn't effect me as much as stuff like that did when my age was still in the single-digits.
- I thought the "blong" in Final Jeopardy! was a bit creepy.

- The Family Feud strike buzzer (especially the current version)
- The TPIR foghorn used in some pricing games and when going over in the Showcase Showdown or Showcase
- The loud foghorn used on the old version of Figure it Out during the final guesses

When I was younger, the sound played when a contestant got one of the first 5 questions wrong on Millionaire scared me.
Also, anyone remember Greed? I thought the sound used when a team got one of the first 4 questions wrong was scary.

- The Cliffhangers theme from TPIR. It wasn't until I was 8 that I stopped hiding behind the TV or couch whenever I saw the game (yes, even the game design itself was scary).
- The Million dollar background music from Millionaire.(more suspenseful than scary).
- The Million dollar spin cue from TPIR.

I thought the sound used when a team got one of the first 4 questions wrong was scary. My list from Greed: - Terminator music & SFX when the contestant was chosen. - The correct answer jingle when you got final answer correct, especially when it's dead silent.

- The Million dollar background music from Millionaire.(more suspenseful than scary). I find the Wintuition bonus round music that way. It's quieter than what will usually set me off, but it is pretty ominous.

No love (hate?) for the Trivia Trap/Pathfinder "EROOOOOOOOOO!" sound effect?

Wow you guys have put a lot of thought into this haha I can't say that there were any sounds and/or cues that made me scared to watch a show. The closest I could come was The Dark Forest from Legends. There was a point in time where I didn't like watching that room get played.

How did we get nine posts in without mentioning the loud "time's up" buzzer on the 1970s nighttime Hollywood Squares?

When I was younger, the buzzer that sounded at the end of 30 seconds whenever someone used the Phone-A-Friend on Millionaire always scared me and it still does to this day. I always mute the TV when the timer hits the 10 or 5 second mark.

How did we get nine posts in without mentioning the loud "time's up" buzzer on the 1970s nighttime Hollywood Squares? Hell, I used to be afraid of the "tacky buzzer" from Bergeron's Hollywood Squares/H ². Oh, and the time's up glissando from Millionaire used to bug the hell out of me. I'm glad they changed it to something more akin to a "period over" horn like at a hockey game.

Kinda creepy, from the original Millionaire music package, the million dollar loss music... in TVTropes lingo, that is High Octane Nightmare Fuel in my eyes.

^ TV Tropes got rid of "High Octane" years ago. I was never scared of any game show SFX that I recall. What DID scare me was WNEM TV 5's logo. When I was a kid, WNEM would chyron the lottery numbers onscreen in the middle of Wheel. Said chyron had their logo, and it always scared me. I remember one time when I got up to go to the bathroom mid-show, and walked straight out of the bathroom into mom's coat because the lottery numbers were up.

As a small child in the 1970's up until around 1981 or 1982, I used to be terrified of the TPIR buzzer, "mrrrrrp" sound effect (also used in Body Language), and losing horns. I would cover my ears whenever the outcome was about to be revealed. I got over that fear when I was about 10 years old. I pretty much found the losing horns (the ones used until 2007) laughable since around 1982 or 1983.

For me, it was the dragon roar from Tic Tac Dough. I would always mute the sound whenever the bonus round was played.

When I was younger, the Classic PYL Whammy foghorn gave me the creeps, especially when I saw the repeats on USA Network. When GSN picked up the show in 2001, I was more accustomed to it, as I started watching the show more often.

I'll echo the sentiments about the classic Whammy foghorn.
The Daily Double sound effect also used to scare the daylights out of me--I guess it was more startling than anything else.
And whenever the Jackpot round came around when it first debuted, I used to hide under the table. The fireworks scared me when I first saw them. Even when I played the N64 game, I'd play the third round from under the table.

The scariest freaking GS music and it STILL scares me to this day is the Million Dollar L music from millionaire. Why? JUST WHY?!
