Contrived BR for the lose. I had WILDLY HAPPY BOY and KID, and was flummoxed when neither D nor O was in the last word. "Bwuh? But nothing else FITS!"
Also, random adjective-noun pairings are bad enough, and now we throw an adverb in too.

Toss-Ups: Paulette is two-for-two to open up the game, giving her $3,000 and the right of first spin.
R1: I had TELEVISION right away, and the rest of the puzzle not long after with a couple strategically placed vowels. Nice perfect round for Paulette to double her dollars and pick up half a car, though the triple R sits sadly on the sidelines.
R2: We're going to get a lot of B&A puzzles this week again, it looks like, just like a couple of the NYC weeks. Paulette takes advantage of the work done by her opponents before their respective dud and Bankrupt, filling in lots of consonants, taking the trip and netting over $10,000 for the N's! She has all the money still, with $24,650 and a car tag - she's held her opponents to just the Wild Card (which Brad holds) at this point.
R3: Kathleen does her best after being derailed by Bankrupt last round, starting with the vowels and then working her way through the consonants, with some nice spins interspersed throughout. She brings in a perfect round of her own and $9,000 to go with the Dominican Republic trip, but leaving the four L's out cost her some cash, and she's still $9,000 behind.
R4: Brad finally finds some cash with the last toss-up, but it's speed-up time right away. $1,700 a letter might be enough for Kathleen to surpass Paulette, but Brad is fighting for consolation cash at this point. Too bad this puzzle is also vowel-heavy, but at least Kathleen does solve it and gets very close to $19,000 for the night.
Bonus: Somehow I got that with Paulette's picks, don't ask me how. WKYI does well enough for a good guess at least, with all the Y's.
Overall: Not bad, not great, a 6/10.

Paulette was the victim of "wrong place, wrong time" when it came to the BR, no pun intended (at least IMO)- I would've solved it on my second guess (my first one for the first word was MILDLY).

R1: Nice perfect round, but she should have went for the R's. She would have been safe by landing around the Gift Tag. R2: Why an F that early? Could have been a good Wild Card opportunity coming up... BR: I actually got this, too, during the timer. I had GUY as a last-word candidate right away, then BOLDLY for the first word, then WILDLY once O was debunked, and then it clicked. What a ridiculous puzzle, and us hardcore fans aren't the only ones to think so. A lot of complaints on Twitter about it, and one guy even posted this picture... Courtesy of @zodiac_MF OK, we can say good riddance to this unenthusiastic crowd ( ) and make room for a new one, which will make or break the excitement of tomorrow... There better be some audience cheers after the MDW gets hit. The footage in the promo shows that it'll happen well into the round, so there will be no excuse for there not to be anything. Michelle's hit only got about two "whoo"s, but it was the first spin of the game. If this MDW hit manages to go silent, I swear I'll break my computer... (or TV if iLive doesn't work tomorrow) Really obvious added audience groans the moment the double buzz went off... Why, Pat? Why did you have to troll us in that closing? Just when it seemed like we had generic puzzle writing (though R4 was age-themed)... Rating: 5/10

We had an OK maingame, but R2-3 could have been a ton bigger. Kristin could have well won despite being in the big hole because the puzzles were meaty - going with the safe D call on $3500 just about ruined the game for her.
That BR was atrocious... I feel bad that Paulette got the shaft there. I did get WILDLY and GUY though - easy letters do clean that up (DHPA?). Still just a terrible puzzle.
Pat explaining more extremely subtle themed puzzles felt like a troll. Puzzlewriters are just so so meh nowadays.

If you guys wanna laugh at my guess for tonight's bonus round, go ahead, because I did two things at the same time. One, I went way too mellow. Two, I did so by turning the W upside down, thinking MILDLY HAPPY GUY.

Trip Puzzle not only feels like [LoudBoomyVoice] IT CAME FROM THE BROCHURE[/LoudAndBoomy], but [LoudAndBoomyPartDeux] IT CAME FROM A COMIC IN THE BROCHURE[/LoudBoomyVoiceGetsOvertimePay]. Honestly. Stupid and hard bonus puzzle is freaking stupid and hard. WILDLY HAPPY GUY? Really, guys? REALLY?! I- I ghe- But I ju--...Dafuq, Wheel? I mean, even your ordinary viewers (okay, ordinary viewers who had a Twitter account, but still!) noticed it, one going so far as to do what Mario normally does with Trip Puzzles and show the fact that Google turns up little to nothing relevant. That's bad. Regardless, even though the players won almost $20,000 less than last night, $35,050 cash was snatched from Harry's pocketbook tonight -- an increase of $14,850 over last night's take! ...And then there's Pat in the final segment, who confirmed that PEARL BRACELET and GREEN BAY WISCONSIN were in fact themed to the week (30th-Anniversary gift and 30th state admitted to the Union, respectively) before putting on his best trollface. In fairness, this is a good kind of trolling and I have the feeling Pat said "Aren't we clever?" with the utmost snarkiness. Your optimal Bonus Round strategies for May 29, 2013:* Modern (2013): WPYI(H) -- but honestly, 1) there's too many consonants and vowels to really pick a good I'm-sure-you'll-win-with-this combo and 2) this puzzle is stupid * Classic (1997): Not sure on the vowel -- I'll go with HGDO In the battle of CDMA versus BGHO (modern only), tonight's winner is the "trolling combo" WKYI with five letters versus CDMA's two, BGHO's two, and the "take a third option" FGHI's three. And honestly, it's pretty appropriate on this episode for the trolling combo to be the most helpful. Had to remove one line directed towards Mr. Friedman and the production staff. Can't have you calling their decisions stupid.

I was surprised I got as much as WILDLY HAPPY, but I was going to need something in that last word to get it.
But yeah, that was so random that it really felt unfair.
And I guess the puzzles are now forming some kind of reverse Only Connect game. All things to do with the number 30, indeed...

The Bonus Round is what I'm officially dubbing as a "Dafuq Puzzle"...a puzzle which makes no sense whatsoever, and sounds like a bunch of random words thrown together, causing the audience to collectively scratch their heads and ask "dafuq?" Dafuq Puzzle...the sister of the Nonsense Answer.

Just noticed this comment in my previous post from CU: Why not? Last time I checked, it wasn't a good idea to directly insult the staff (personal attacks, that kind of thing) -- and I fully understand that. In this case, I was referring to their decisions and (re)actions in relation to the Round 4 puzzle being OLD ENOUGH TO KNOW BETTER. The fact it seems like they don't know better in certain regards (one being to put out a product very similar to a primetime network game show) is what I was talking about. I've made dozens of remarks along those lines, so why erase this latest one? I'd say it feels like wanting to appeal to the show, but the other posts in this thread being untouched seems to discredit that theory. Honestly, if anything was trolling (and I might be reading too much into this), it was that puzzle. "OLD ENOUGH TO KNOW BETTER. Yep, that's us alright. "

Strangely, here in Dallas, KTVT aired a completely different episode with different contestants. No lie.
Kinda feel like I'm in the Twilight Zone.

Or was the BR "HOME VIEWERS"? I saw a comment on Facebook from one viewer saying his station repeated Monday's episode...

The BR solution was HOME VIEWERS. Looked on the KTVT Facebook page (CBSDFW) and two of their Facebook friends mentioned the repeat episode.

Is it bad that Pat looks like a troll in that picture? I mean, he and Vanna look like they're outright insulting their viewing audience. Speaking of which... My response (through about 1:17).
