Marcia Wallace, longtime game show panelist and stage/television actress, passed away yesterday at the age of 70 due to complications from breast cancer.
While she never appeared on Wheel of Fortune to my knowledge, she was a mainstay on Match Game, Pyramid, Password Plus, Super Password, and many others. Speaking from personal experience, I found her to have a great personality and a sharp wit that never failed - not even when Bill Daily changed a queen to an eight on Card Sharks and proceeded to run the board against her.
In addition to her game show appearances and stage performances, Marcia had her most well-known roles as receptionist Carol Kester on The Bob Newhart Show and as the voice of teacher Edna Krabappel on The Simpsons. While I have never been a particular fan of that program, I salute the classy move made by the showrunners in announcing that the "irreplaceable" character would be retired with her passing.
Rest in peace, Marcia. Our world will be a little less bright without you in it.

Too bad we never see Bart's teacher again. So I wonder if the show will ever have the new fourth grade teacher, or no classroom scenes at all. RIP Marcia, she will be miss.
