College Road Trip (Day 2)
On the previous episode, SFSU student Price Troche had a $64K night, ending a TEN-EPISODE LOSING STREAK! He's now an actor in some indie films, I believe. Way to go, Price! (He even beat a Harvard student, so man...) Can tonight's collegians catch up with this guy? Let's find out.
Oh, and tonight's contestants go in the panels, mention their names and colleges, and then say "Go [their mascots]!" before running to their panel positions. It happens all this week.
Toss-Up 1: College life (how appropriate)
_ _ - C _ _ _ U S
_ _ T _ _ _ _ _ E S
Doug participates in some ON-CAMPUS ACTIVITIES for his first grand. Let's meet him and the female competition...
Doug Roberts: A University of Rhode Island junior (Go Rams) majoring in biology and hopes to teach that subject by getting a teaching degree; he plays oldies music on his keyboard and even composes some music; he's from Coventry, RI
Rebecca Hatt: A University of Nevada, Las Vegas student (Go Rebels) majoring in criminal justice who hopes to do some security auditing (working with a company's information system); she likes to ride, show, and train horses but unfortunately, she's too busy for that; she's from Henderson, NV
Carolyn Lawrence: A University of Illinois senior (Go Illini, pronounced /IE-luh-nie/) majoring in mechanical engineering who's in the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority; she works at a legendary university bar and likes to snowboard and watch movies; she's from Champaign, IL
I like Doug so far; he seems enthusiastic so I'm hoping he'll win. And thanks to him for providing this episode.
Toss-Up 2: Food & drink
_ _ _ A N A
S P L _ _
Doug's 2 for 2 after eating this BANANA SPLIT.
Pat tells Charlie that the Food Network isn't interested in his holiday hangover recipes. Aw.
Featured Prize: An $8,000 tour of Australia (Sydney, Surfer's Paradise, Fraser Island, Capricorn Post, and the Great Barrier Reef) provided by Contiki Vacations (this company provides trips for 18- to 35-year-olds)
$10,000 Round: Things (PRIZE PUZZLE)
Doug instantly lands on the expanded Sony Card $2,500 wedge (it covers 3 spaces) and lights up an obvious S! But his next turn finds him spinning with $2,250 (NULL CYCLE ALERT: He may have bought a bad E and the ladies got Bankrupted) and keeps saying "no no no" (he says things like that the entire show)...for good reason, he Bankrupts between $600 and $900. Darn. Rebecca can't find an R on $800. Carolyn gets an $1,800 T trio but misses with M on $900. Back to our lone man, who gets a $900 N and buys I and O threesomes before getting a $900 H and picking up the Free Spin + $300 with a P. But after buying the last vowel of 3 A's, he Bankrupts to give $1,350...and SAVES HIS FREE SPIN?! You know what, I can't blame him, he might have Bankrupted again. Anyway, Rebecca gets an $800 D and a $600 L...but she also Bankrupts. Wow. Carolyn lights up a big $2,500 G...
D I G I T A L
_ A _ A T I O N
P H O T O S
...and with $4,300, she'll enjoy taking some DIGITAL VACATION PHOTOS on her $5,000 trip to...ICELAND?! Wha? That's an unusual vacation spot, even Charlie says it. Oh well...she's got $9,300 cash and trip with her - that was an UGLY round.
TRIP ID: BS5122289
Aired Wrong Letters: R (Rebecca), M (Carolyn)
Aired Bankrupts: Kyle 2x, Rebecca
Rebecca: $0
Carolyn: $9,300 cash and Iceland
Doug: $3,000 Toss-Up money + FS
Wow, Doug gets to keep his Free Spin!
Eggland's Best Jackpot Round: Show biz
Rebecca instantly Bankrupts near $900. Not her night so far...anyway, Carolyn lights up a $600 T pair and picks up the 25 prize with an R. She flips it to find...$2,500 cash! But after buying two A's, she calls a negative of N on $600. Doug gets a $600 S pair and 3 E's before betting a $300 H and a $400 M (between the penalty spaces). After purchasing 2 I's, he goes for a $600 F and one more spin...but then he Bankrupts the same way he did before! Ouch. This time, he's using his Free Spin. He gets a $900 D and a $500 L and we have this showing...
T H R E E - D A _
M _ S I _ / F E S T I _ A L
He can attend a THREE-DAY MUSIC FESTIVAL with $1,400.
Wrong Letter: N (Carolyn)
Bankrupt: Rebecca
Unclaimed Jackpot: $8,900
Rebecca: $0
Carolyn: $9,300
Doug: $4,400
Mystery/Big Money Round: Before & after
Carolyn gets a $600 T trio to start. After buying 3 A's, she lights up FIVE N's on the Mystery Wedge between $800 and $300. She's not taking any chances (and smart move, that had the Bankrupt). After getting an E trio, she misses with M on $300. Doug then finds a $900 R trio, a $300 D (both times he landed on $300, he nearly landed on the other Mystery Wedge), a $900 V...
A N
_ N _ _ N V E N _ E N T
T R _ T _
_ R / D A R E
...and wins this game of "AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH" OR DARE (the first half is a 2006 documentary about Al Gore's stance on global warming) for another $2,100.
Wrong Letter: M (Carolyn)
Rebecca: Bad shape
Carolyn: $9,300
Doug: $6,500
Toss-Up 3: Occupation
A T H _ E _ I C
T R _ I N _ _
I don't know if any of these students used the help of an ATHLETIC TRAINER, but Carolyn's moved up to $12,300 with that solve.
Round 4: Phrase
It's a $1,300 Final Spin.
Carolyn lights up 2 R's. Doug lights up 2 C's...
_ _ _ / C R _ _ _ / _ _
_ _ _ / C R _ _
...and he guesses THE CREAM OF THE CROP - BULLSEYE, he's got it! But with only $2,600, he's not the big winner.
Rebecca: $1,000 consolation prize (bad luck for her)
Carolyn: $12,300 cash and Iceland
Doug: $9,100
Maingame Winnings: Just $22,400
Bankrupt Trash: $6,650
Bonus Round: Phrase
Carolyn brought her mom and sister here. Could she win a Jeep Grand Cherokee or a Toyota Prius? Or some more cash?
She lands on the triple star.
RSTLNE gives a decent amount:
S _ _ _ / _ _ _ R
S T _ _ _
She's going with YMG and then tries to pick a 4th consonant of P, but rules are rules, Pat reminds her. Her vowel choice is an O (he thought she said "oh" when he reminded her), and we have (besides the obvious 2nd word)...
S _ O _ / Y O _ R
S T _ _ _
...but she's way off the mark with STOP YOUR STUCK, STOP YOUR STOOP, SOUP YOUR STOCK, and STOP YOUR STOCK. Because you didn't SHOW YOUR STUFF, Carolyn, you lost $50,000, leaving you with $12,300 cash and Iceland.
Speaking of the R1 puzzle, Vanna discuss her making DVD photo albums.
